Massive fun if you are a lover of a cozy mystery, with a lovely plaid wearing law enforcement officer, a stunningly beautiful (she says) Siamese cat named for Agatha Christie, and a sweet, loyal female progagonist. Oh, and a bookshop. And snow.
What could possibly go wrong? Other than a murder?
Totally recommended for reading snuggled in front of the fire with a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

Now that it’s Autumn, I was really in the mood for a cosy mystery and this was a great discovery! Although it’s the second book in the series, I enjoyed it as a stand alone ( though will definitely now be purchasing book 1!). The setting is idyllic, in a small town tucked away in the mountains in Colorado. Although I’m not a fan of Agatha Christie, I loved the atmosphere of the little bookshop and all the quirky secondary characters - I did find Lorna a little irritating though! Meg and Ellie were a lot of fun and there is a lot of scope for new plot lines to develop in the series. All in all I found it very engaging cosy mystery and am excited to read more from this author.

Last Word to the Wise centres around sisters Ellie and Meg Christie who agree to participate in their cousin Lorna’s matchmaking scheme where people are matched based on their taste in books. The following day Meg’s date Joe turns up dead and Meg was the last person to see him alive so the sisters begin investigating to clear her name.

This book is set in a small mountain town and the local bookshop, the Book Chalet, features prominently which created a really cozy atmosphere. As a huge Agatha Christie fan I loved all the references to her stories and the fact that Ellie was such a big bibliophile made her fun to read about. The relationships between characters felt very realistic and I adored the family dynamics in the Christie family.

However I found that at times the pacing of the mystery was slightly slow meaning that the conclusion felt rushed and under explained.

Overall this was a fun, cozy mystery. I absolutely adored the characters and the setting and will definitely be reading the rest of the series!
