I had already heard a lot of these consipracies before I read the book, but it was still interesting to read about them in more detail. There's a lot of great historical information and photographs, and the writing is engaging and entertaining. It seems well researched too. I would recommend this to readers who are interested in history and WWII in particular.

In "Unveiling the Enigma," military historian Alexander Macdonald delves into the labyrinth of conspiracies surrounding World War II, weaving together a tapestry of covert assassinations, secret missions, and shocking cover-ups. The book offers a meticulous examination of the evidence, guiding readers through the fog of disinformation and revealing the intriguing truths that lie beneath these elaborate theories.

Conspiracies of World War II was a fascinating account. It was an interesting way of conveying this section of history. While the subject matter is incapable of being a fun read, this setup was engaging and was paced in a way that made reading difficult situations easier. The short-form stylization helped me avoid getting bogged down with such heavy subject matter. This area of history isn't my expertise, so all but the most prevalent conspiracy theories were new to me. I appreciate how the author approached the subject matter respectfully but unflinchingly, not mincing words about the treatment of marginalized groups at the time. This was a difficult but rewarding read, and while it is presented as 'conspiracy theories,' there is a lot of undisputed information I wasn't aware of. Overall, it was engaging and made learning about this section of history more approachable.

I got the ebook and the audiobook. I enjoyed the narration of the audiobook (the style reminds me of NPR), but the pictures in the ebook added greatly to the reading experience.

Thank you to Arcturus Publishing and NetGalley for an eARC copy of Conspiracies of World War II by Alexander Macdonald.

This was an extremely fascinating read, and quite easy. Normally when authors go into details about history or what could or couldn't happen, etc., they make it really hard to understand. But each chapter was separated well and explained in a way one could understand, it was also straight to the point. I've heard a few of the theories before, but it was nice to read more information about what was actually going on and what actually occurred (thought it is still nice to think there is more hidden information than what is provided). It's well researched and I'd highly recommend for anyone wanting more insight.

I found this book to be a really quick, easy read. The chapters/topics read a lot like informational essays or short stories, so I was able to pick the book up and put it down really easily. I also really appreciated that the author included both more well-known and researched conspiracies (like Operation Valkyrie and if Hitler faked his death and escaped to South America) and ones that I had never heard of before reading this book! I would definitely recommend this title to anyone that has an interest in WW2 or in military history!

Thank you to NetGalley and Arcturus Publishing for providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.

Conspiracies of World War II by Alexander Macdonald is an enthralling book including analyses of a variety of conspiracy stories, some of which have been proven since WWII. Others were pushed by propagandists and we will never know what truly happened. Many involve Hitler and his cronies, others his enemies and/or double agents. Those who dared to oppose Hitler (there were several) were swiftly hunted down and executed.

Amongst the many stories which struck me in particular included Operation Valkyrie (the most comprehensive I have read thus far...imagine the world if it had succeeded!), Hitler's despicable relationship with his young niece Geli and the mystery surrounding her death, Hess's cremated ashes/DNA match, the Katyn Forest massacre, the extraordinary and unforgettable survival story of Komorowski, forged currency, tanks disguised as trucks, bags of Nazi gold, war criminals fleeing through tunnels and the legendary Rollright Stones. Compelling stuff.

The author packs a lot of information into this book along with fascinating photographs but it does not read like a dry textbook. Each chapter is approachable and as interesting as the previous one. Though I have read countless books about this time, this one truly stands out as well researched and highly compelling. Who isn't riveted by mystery and intrigue?

If you would like to be gripped by conspiracy stories during this era, this book has your name on it. Whatever your knowledge level, you will most certainly learn something.

My sincere thank you to Arcturus Publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this intriguing book.

A wide spectrum of WW2 conspiracy theories compiled into a fascinating book.

I was aware of most of the supposed conspiracies, and it was great to see some more flesh put on the bones of the lesser-known stories. I was unaware that the body of the only remaining Nazi prisoner held in Spandau prison was proven, by DNA analysis, to be Rudolph Hess. However, lots of the other interesting theories about his flight to Britain, and his links to the royal family still remain fairly unproven.

From my research, I don't necessarily agree with the author with his findings on the 'accepted' source of the corpse associated with Operation Mincemeat. But that's what makes this conspiracy book so much fun to read!

This compendium of conspiracies during WWll did not bring any new concepts to me as I was aware of many of them already. However, it provides a concise and detailed collection of some of the lesser known events connected with the 1939-1945 conflict and beyond and their impact on our world today.
