The Thai Cookbook is a lovely book full of interesting recipes.

It is divided into 10 sections from starts, soups, meats, vegetables and desserts. Also included are basic recipes for pastes and sauces.

The book comes with lots of colour photography of the recipes. Each recipe includes its Thai and English title, ingredients and steps. Some recipes have extra instructions with photographs for more difficult bits (eg stuffing a squid with a pork mixture). Recipes include both metric and imperial measurements and the yield/serving.

Missing from the book is the overall time it takes to make the dish.

Note this book was first published in 2015.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.

I absolutely love cooking Thai and enjoy hosting dinner parties. Every Thai cookbook I've come across will have a slight change of ingredients for some of my recipes. I like this so I can play around in the kitchen.

I love Thai food, but it is one cuisine that I haven't attempted to make at home often. This cookbook really helped with that! The recipes give you a wide variety of dishes to try, and sound delicious. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in trying to make Thai food at home.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher and author for allowing me to review the book!

Love Thai food? Almost everybody does, and you can learn to cook it at home with The Thai Cookbook: More than 80 delicious recipes, regional styles, and flavors, an excellent publication by the editors of Chartwell Books.

Thai food has enjoyed a surge of popularity in recent years in the US, and with good reason: the food is fabulous. While most of us don’t have the time and can’t afford to go out often, this book includes Thai dishes than can be made at home. None of the dishes are particularly difficult to make, and almost any cook, beginner to advanced, can easily make them picture perfect.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. Many of the ingredients called for are available at any good Asian grocery, and with the popularity of Thai cooking, some are even available at mainstream grocers. Whether it takes a special trip or not, the recipes in this book are so good, you’ll agree it’s worth the trip.

This cookbook includes beautiful, professional photographs of most of the dishes, as well as people from Thailand and the country, making it a wonderful book to peruse in a corner while deciding which of the mouthwatering dishes to make.

All told, this cookbook is worth having on the shelf. The recipes include traditional Thai standbys, as well as several not-so-well-known, but worth trying recipes.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I love Thai food but I have never had a Thai cookbook.

This one is a real gem. It is very pleasant to read and has beautiful illustrations. And it is much more than just a cookbook. It is also more generally about Thai food a culinary habits. Both the photos and the text tell us about what people eat in the various provinces of the country, what are the culinary traditions and influences and we learn a lot about the ingredients.

The recipes are very well explained and cover a wide range from street food to salads, curries, stir fries, desserts etc. I appreciated the very informative section on ingredients and there is a good section on basics such as curry pastes.

The challenge is to find a good store where one can source the fresh ingredients but once you have that, this book will take you straight into a culinary trip to Thailand.

I absolutely adore this book! The illustrations, the historical context, and the mouthwatering recipes are simply amazing. The initial pages provide a fascinating insight into the history of Thai cuisine, along with intriguing facts about regional cooking. The chapters cover a wide range of dishes, including soups, salads, street food, curries, noodles, and more. Each chapter begins with a mini-lesson on that particular category, which adds an educational element to the book. While you can definitely enjoy this book for its stunning visuals alone, if you decide to try out the recipes, it might be worth visiting an Asian grocery store to gather some of the ingredients. Although there are simpler recipes that use common Asian cooking ingredients like ginger and bean sprouts, there are also a few that call for lime leaves (kaffir), preserved radish, and bird's eye chilies. However, with a little bit of exploration at your local grocery store or by searching for substitutions online, I believe many of the recipes can still be successfully recreated.

There are so many great recipes to choose from and plenty of variety. I loved learning about a new cuisine.

This book contained some incredible recipes. Ones that you may not find in most conventional cookbooks or blogs. The layout was well done, and though the recipes looked very complex, I'm still eager to give them a try.

My only drawback - the photos. In a world of Instagram and blogs I feel photos need to draw in the reader/consumer. These photos lacked that 'punch' I needed to make me want to instantly try the recipe.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher

I love Thai food, so much so that my husband and I started planning a trip to Thailand in 2020. Unfortunately, COVID has other plans, but The Thai Cookbook by the Editors of Chartwell Books helps fill that hold left from the cancellation of our trip. The book explores the history and culture of Thailand along with its beautiful photos and delicious recipes. My only complaint is that the book did not have very many veggie-friendly dishes.

The Thai Cookbook by Editors of Chartwell Books is a lovely book about the history, tradition, culture, markets and climate which help mold Thai people and their delicious food. Not only that but the reader learns about cooking techniques and preparation. The 80+ gorgeous recipes are varied with inspiration for all skill and interest levels. Especially when broken down into components these recipes are simple, though Thai food is vibrant and tastes complex. When you use bright and beautiful ingredients with love, recipes shine!

Celiac disease is restrictive to me but there are so many ideas and options here which allow me to pick and choose or omit. I would happily make nearly all the recipes but hope to start with Fried Fish Cakes with Green Beans, Fried Mussel Pancakes (with gluten free substitutes), Stuffed Squid Soup, Sliced Steak with Hot and Sour Sauce, simply=called Grilled Chicken which looks like it pops with flavour, Caramel Pork, Spicy Tomato Dipping Sauce, Shrimp Paste Dipping Sauce and Crisp Rubies, something I have never eaten. The Basics section in the back will be one of my go-to chapters. I could practically bathe in the flavours.

My favourite chapters include information on street food, snacks and flavourings. I am a rabid condiment cook and am thrilled with the recipes here. Thai food is all sensory including superb aromas. The inclusion of the Thai words for the dishes is appreciated.

If cooking Thai food daunts you, this accessible book will change your mind. Once you know a bit more about Thailand's food culture, you will be itching to create! I love to cook Thai dishes and am inspired more than ever to add to my repertoire.

My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Chartwell Books and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this phenomenal book.

This cookbook was a bit of a mix for me. On the one hand it is a beautifully designed cookbook, with photos for almost every recipe and recipes which are clearly presented and easy to follow. There also seem to be intended images for techniques, which is super useful! On the other hand, as someone who mostly eats vegetarian and isn't into seafood at all, there aren't a whole lot of recipes in here which I could cook straight from the book or easily adapt. (My biggest issue is the fish sauce and shrimp paste, that's just not for me.) Now, this is not a fault of the cookbook because it is representing a specific cuisine and of course can't cater to everyone's dietary preferences. But perhaps more possible substitutions, or ways to adapt, could have been suggested.

Something I definitely did like, however, was how much attention there was for the history and culture of Thailand itself. When I visited it back in 2017 it was such a vibrant place and I wish I could have spent more time there. Getting to know a cuisine does also require, I think, getting to know where it comes from a little, understanding how people eat their food, where they get their ingredients, what is tradition and what is new. I loved exploring more of Thailand through this book, even if I still need to figure out how to adapt some of the food. I will definitely be trying the tofu and tomato soup some time soon, however!

This was very similar to other Thai cookery books. It wasn’t distinctive. Good photos. I tried a couple of the recipes and they worked and tasted good.

This is an interesting collection of Thai recipes. It's creative, highlights the most commonly used ingredients and even lends a light to common and typical streetfoods.

Loved The Thai Cookbook. Reading all the recipes I felt like I was traveling to Thailand. All the recipes have easy indications on how to prepare them and the photos were appetizing enough to make me want to try them. Also, I like the introductions of some chapters, I learned more about the food and culture in Thailand. I, definitely, need this book in my library.
