Great read on gardening, was a book choice for our garden club. Loved the author's take on garden design, and gardens in general.

This will make a beautiful coffee table book for garden lovers. Like others, I was unable to finish reading it before it was removed so I'm unable to do a public review.

A visual treat for every plant and garden lover, providing useful knowledge and information on aspects related to creating, maintaining, and appreciating landscaping and gardening. Even includes a section on how gardens can awaken and stimulate the five human senses. A worthwhile addition to the collection of any library!

I'm sorry, but I was unable to finish this book before it was made unavailable. It's disappointing, because it was starting out to be a great read. I guess I will have to wait to get it from the library.

"What Makes a Garden" by Jinny Blom is a masterpiece in the world of garden design literature, showcasing a considered and multi-disciplinary approach that elevates the art of creating outdoor spaces. Building on the foundation of her previous work, "The Thoughtful Garden," this book delves even deeper into the intricate web of garden design principles, making it an indispensable addition to any gardener's library.

One of the book's most captivating aspects is Jinny Blom's unwavering emphasis on engaging all five senses. She beautifully articulates the idea that a garden should be more than just a visual delight; it should encompass fragrance, touch, sound, and taste. Blom's commitment to creating gardens that stimulate the entirety of human perception sets her apart as a visionary in her field.

The book takes readers on an enchanting journey, revealing the alchemical transformation that occurs when inanimate elements merge harmoniously with living ones. It's a profound insight that underscores the magic of garden design and sets it apart as a true art form. Blom's ability to convey this magic with such clarity and passion is a testament to her expertise and genuine love for her craft.

Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of "What Makes a Garden" is Blom's commitment to creating gardens that stand the test of time. She understands the evolution of landscapes over the years and the cultural influences that shape them. Her approach ensures that her gardens not only remain beautiful but continue to evolve with grace and relevance.

This book is not a rigid set of rules but a masterclass in the art of thinking about garden design. It encourages designers and enthusiasts alike to respond to the unique characteristics of the location and the desires of the client. Blom draws on her extensive experience, gained over two decades, to distill the essence of what people truly want from a garden and how it differs from a natural landscape.

It's a work of art that marries creativity with functionality, making it a must-read for all garden lovers. Whether you're a seasoned designer or just starting your gardening journey, this book is a treasure trove of insights that will inspire, inform, and captivate your imagination. In short, it's a delightful masterpiece in the world of garden literature

I do not think any other book will bring me this close to nature and human history thriving in nature.

Nature and history are at their best in this book! I just adore the real pictures (that too full page!) (also take a hint from the cover!). I absolutely adore this.

You will be mesmerised starting the moment you open up this book. We have got lots and lots to learn from this book: what we get from nature and how nature has blessed us with all its might.

There’s a point while you’re reading this book to actually get up, leave everything and explore your own surroundings no matter how big or small it may seem.

Quarto Publishing Group/ White Lion at its best again. Thank you for the advance reading copy.

I thought this was a wonderful book filled with inspiration and beautiful photographs. I learned a lot about the more artistic aspects of gardening, the senses, how to approach them.

I loved this history imparted in this piece as well. And that the author relied on art pieces, though I found some of them to be disturbing personally, I understood that Blom was trying to evoke emotion.
