Thank you for approving me to read Perfect Little Lives. Sadly I this book didn't work for me. I was keen to read if because of the thriller story and I thought it would be focused on the main character discovering what really happened to her missing mum. Actually it seemed to be more about her sex life! I just found it quite dull and very disjointed. It's possible that it's just not been the right time for me to read this book but I can't see me picking it back up.

10 years ago Simones father was convicted for the murder of her mother. She's never believed he's the one who killed her and now a podcaster is hounding her she's desperate to find out the truth. When she finds out from her childhood friend hunter that her mother and his father had an affair that lasted years she believes he's the one that really did it. Simone begins a dangerous game but is everything going to come crashing down around her?

The premise of this drew me in but it was not executed well. Simone is a very unlikeable character who's horrible to everyone around her and very predujidiced. For a thriller there was too much spicy scenes that really didn't need to be in there. Also the love triangle really wasn't needed I felt so bad for the way Simone treated her boyfriend and for the way she used Hunter knowing how he felt about her. I also feel like Simone should've ended up alone at the end of the story. I really did not enjoy this and just kept wishing it would end faster. If you want to read something about a horrible mc then read this otherwise steer clear.

I felt like this had the potential to be an amazing book. However there was something lacking with the main characters. I struggled to relate and warm to any of them.
I really did like the storyline and thought the book was well written

Darkly Compelling..
Deep and dark secrets of the past surface in this darkly compelling tale of suspense. Simone lives a quietly secluded life now, away from the limelight, keeping herself to herself. All that is about to change when a true crime documentary producer decides to make her his mark. As secrets begin to emerge, Simone becomes determined to discover the truth. Who did kill her mother all those years ago? A deftly drawn cast of characters populate an intriguing plot peppered with twists and a sparky narrative often laced with dark humour.

Stunning read.
Simone’s mother was murdered when she was thirteen. When her father was convicted, everything changed. Overnight, Simone went from living in a wealthy white neighborhood to scraping by. Ten years later, Simone has given up on her dreams and lives a quiet life, writing book reviews and getting serious with her boyfriend. But with a true crime documentarian hounding her for a scoop and a surprise encounter with her childhood next-door neighbor, Hunter, the past seems set on haunting her. And after Hunter reveals that his father and her mother had a years-long affair, Simone is determined to find out who really killed her mother. Simone is convinced that all evidence points to Hunter’s father, a renowned judge who had everything to lose if his affair—and his nascent love child—came to light. Playing the game from all sides, Simone enlists Hunter’s help in her investigation into his family—whether he realizes it or not. But is she so desperate for closure that she'll risk imploding her carefully rebuilt life?
Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown Books UK, Piatkus for giving me an advance copy.

As a young teenager, after Simone's father was convicted for her mother's murder, her life became unrecognizable. Her privileged existence in a wealthy neighbourhood became a thing of the past, and she essentially had to create a new life for herself, starting from scratch.

Now, she has settled for a more muted existence, built around her boyfriend and her book reviews. It may not involve a lot of excitement, but there is a sense of hard-earned security, and that is worth a lot to Simone.

But as she unexpectedly discovers, nearly a decade afterwards, her life on Asher Lane was never quite what Simone thought it was. Meeting up with her former neighbour Hunter, Simone discovers that Hunter's father and her own mother had been having an affair for an extended period of time.

Shocked by this discovery, Simone becomes hell-bent on finding out the real story behind her mother's death, even if it puts the life she has worked so hard to rebuild in jeopardy.

Could Hunter's father be responsible, as she believes? As a respected judge, revelations about his affair with Simone's mother could have cost him everything. So he had plenty of motive to commit the murder - especially if he could pin it on Simone's father...

This was a quick read, delivering both suspense and entertainment. It will appeal to readers who enjoy domestic thrillers.
