Ms Henderson sure knows how to tell a story. These are great characters and the pacing is spot on. I was toddling along happily reading about Zeddi and her gorgeous daughter and then I was rushing headlong through the story to find out how it’s resolved. The angst level was hugely ramped up and I was desperate to know what happened.

Zeddi has fallen on hard times and she and her daughter live in a van parked in front of a friend’s house. She cleans houses. One house is owned by Mags who becomes very close to Olive and has an idea she wants to discuss with Zeddi but then they find Mags dead. They think there’s something suspicious but things move quickly and Zeddi hardly has time to catch her breath.

The ancillary characters are excellent, especially Zeddi’s ‘dads’ and Mags’s coven. The writing is sharp and the author is clever at getting you to invest in Olive especially, so you want to know what happens. The ending is satisfying and I’d be happy to read more about these characters.

I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley

Overall, an enjoyable murder mystery read. It was sad and funny at the same time. The main characters were great. I especially loved Zedd's daughter Olive. I recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for this ARC.

Our main character, Zeddi, lives in a van with her nine year old daughter, Olive. She is working as a housekeeper for an old woman named Mags, but one day when she went to clean her house, she found Mags dead. Zeddi finds her passing away very suspicious so she starts digging into Mags’ life, because she owes it to her to uncover the truth about her death, but in the process of it all, she starts worrying about Olive’s life.

Unfortunately i had to dnf this book, which is so sad because i was excited and the synopsis sounded interesting, but it just wasn’t for me. I dnf’ed at the 18% mark, and from what i have read, i do think the characters are likable, but the writing style wasn’t for my liking. I think i would’ve enjoyed this more if i was older, that being said, i don’t think this would fit with a younger audience (young adults/ teenagers). I still do recommend this book though, because what does not work for me might work for someone else and vice-versa.

Zeddi cleans houses and is living in a van with her nine year daughter Olive. Arriving to clean a home she finds Mags, her employer dead. As they learn more about Mags they don’t feel the death is accidental. The characters are great and I’m not giving away details that will spoil the mystery. Olive is smart but behaves appropriately for her age. This was a fun mystery to read under a full moon. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes for the ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review. Witches and magic are not my ‘go to’ genre but I have yo say this was an enjoyable read.
The main MC’s being introduced to the world of witchcraft as a result of a friendship via Zeddi’s cleaning gig and her daughter Olive initially being the more ‘open minded’ of the two. The story takes us on a sad, funny journey where new friendships are forged, new beliefs born and a murder mystery is solve plus the added bonus of potential love!! What more can you ask for in a book.
Thank to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for providing the ARC. This is my honest opinion of the book.

Zeddi and her daughter Olive are living in their van for right now while Zeddi saves money. While working as a housekeeper she finds her client/friend dead and is beside herself because she feels Margaret death isn’t an accident. She maybe right when Margaret longtime love Ida reveal things about Margaret as Zeddi decides to investigate she fears she maybe in over her head when she feels she may have put Olive in danger who for a child is very wise. This was a cute spooky read and love how unique the characters were.

A fun, spooky mystery perfect for Halloween. It's got some issues with pacing, starting off strong, then kind of meandering and trying to find its footing as the cast of characters and happenings expands past what it's got a handle on, but the final act of the mystery is great.

I especially loved how vivid most of the characters are - everyone feels like a real person I've known, and Olive is a vital child character without feeling overly childish or there for sympathy.

This book was perfection from start to finish! I absolutely loved all of the characters. They all felt like real people with such unique personalities. Dan especially is so perfectly written; he feels like someone plucked right out of my own life. The book has so many wonderful little details that add so much charm to the story.

I was invested in Zeddi and Olive right away. They have such a wonderful bond, and Olive's curiosity is so fun to read.

I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a good mystery!
