I went into this book blind, which has been working for me in the past. However, I tend to struggle with fantasy and this was based around witches. I couldn’t get into it 😬

There are plenty of twists and turns in this one. I found myself completely hooked and unsuccessful at trying to predict where this would go.

I was instantly hooked by this one. It’s one of those books that pulls you in instantly and becomes completely unputdownable.

II’ve literally devoured this in just one sitting with no regrets. This is an absolute must read.

Samantha takes a job in a home thinking it will be a fresh start for her and her daughter Lily but what awaits is more than anyone can take. Although I was looking for a scary thriller this one was more mind games than I was expecting but I still enjoyed it. The atmosphere I felt was the most haunting part!

Pacy Suspense..
Twists galore in this pacy psychological suspense. Relayed effectively via a dual timeline, the reader learns of events which took place across 1972 and then present day, as past and present ultimately collide. A well drawn cast of characters populate a plot laced with menace and unexpected happenings.

This author knows how to keep readers guessing. Every chapter left me wanting more. A taut and suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. Loved it

Witches, covens, spells, suspense and thrills! If you enjoy any of the above you will love this book.

Samantha and her 15 year old daughter Lily have relocated to Nether Dale where Samantha is the new matron for a nursing home. The story explores dual timelines; Samantha currently struggling to connect with her daughter and Annie, now resident of the nursing home whose teenage daughter was murdered in 1970. Samantha begins to get anonymous texts telling to her LEAVE, the residents are acting suspicious and their mother/daughter relationship is crumbling.

I really enjoyed this supernatural story; witches, spells and all.

After another disastrous relationship, single-mum Samantha just wants a fresh start - for her and her teenage daughter and best friend, Lily.
Samantha accepts a post as matron in an exclusive residential home on the outskirts of a quiet village in the Peak District.
But nothing is as it seems at the Hallow Croft residential home.
Forty years ago, a girl was killed in the grounds.
One of the residents is kept locked away from the others - 'for their own safety'.
The previous matron disappeared. The only trace of her now is a scuffed diary.
People even say a local coven of witches cursed the home and the Shuttleworth family who owns it.
And now Samantha's daughter might be the curse's next victim.

I really enjoyed this story. The plot twists were brilliantly crafted. Found it to be a great read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc of The Home in exchange for my honest review. I started off liking the flow and then it just went downhill from there. I had an issue liking the main character or any character at all. I’m sorry but this book just wasn’t for me.

Get ready for curses and being skeptical of every character. This book was so fun to read. Little details were carefully revealed throughout the whole book leading up to the ending. The way witchcraft was baked in left it up to the reader’s discretion on whether you wanted to believe it was real or that events were simply coincidental and witchcraft isn’t real, and I loved that. You could easily persuade me either way with this one. Nonetheless, this book definitely spooked me out.

This novel really worked the gothic tropes well and I made for a great, creepy read that I didn’t want to put down.

A must read book - the palpable tension and sense of impending danger grip us from the first page. The evocative description of the girl hiding within standing stones creates an immediate connection to the story's suspenseful atmosphere. The rhythmic pacing and vivid prose enhance the intensity of the narrative, making it impossible to escape the gripping tension.

As Samantha, a single mother, seeks refuge in the seemingly tranquil village of the Peak District, we are drawn into her world of personal turmoil and the promise of a fresh start. The enigmatic setting of Hallow Croft, now an exclusive residential home, sets the stage for a mystery that unfolds with every carefully crafted sentence. The deliberate secrecy surrounding one resident and the ominous mention of a disappeared matron shroud the narrative in an aura of foreboding.

The dual timelines—Sam's contemporary struggles and the haunting events from forty years ago—converge to create a rich tapestry of suspense. The subtle allusions to a curse add a layer of mystique, enticing readers to uncover the dark secrets that have plagued Hallow Croft Manor. The unspoken dangers lurking within the home intensify the sense of peril, raising the stakes for Sam and her daughter.

The author skillfully navigates the delicate balance between psychological thriller and supernatural mystery. The chilling revelation that the home might be the most dangerous place to raise a family adds an extra layer of complexity to the narrative. This book is a masterful exploration of fear, secrets, and the lengths one must go to keep loved ones safe—a gripping tale that lingers in our minds long after the final page.

I just reviewed THE HOME by Sally-Anne Martyn. #THEHOME #NetGalley

Single mom Samantha is ready for a fresh start with her daughter, Lily. Samantha accepts a position as a matron at a residential home, Hallow Croft, on the outskirts of a quiet village. Hallow Croft has a spooky history. 40 years ago, a girl was murdered on the grounds. People in the village say that a coven of witches cursed Hallow Croft and the family that owns it. To add to the creepy factor, there are some odd residents at Hallow Croft. An elderly woman is locked away in her room. The previous matron disappeared.

This book alternates between 1975 and the present. In the 1975 timeline, we learn about teh curse and the murder of the young girl.

I liked that the setting for this book took place at a residential care home. It definitely added some creepy elements! The characters at the home were entertaining and I enjoyed Samantha's interactions with them.

I was definitely thrown off by the witches and coven elements! I did not really enjoy the 1975 timeline, as it was all about the witches. The present timeline felt more like typical thriller. I did not think the witches would be such a big part of the story. If you like books about witches and curses, then this one is for you! If not, I would probably suggest going with a different thriller.

Thank you Joffe Books and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

Are you after a stunning new read that is both gripping and eerie in equal measures? Then The Home by Sally-Anne Martyn is the one for you! Add it to your TBR now because you will not want to miss out!

This is the second book I've read by Martyn, having read The Clinic last year (also add to your TBR), and it was just fab! Samantha and her daughter Lily have recently moved to Hallow Croft, a care home where Samantha has taken the role of matron. A tragedy still hangs over the place and things seem off straight away. As time goes on, it's clear that there are dark forces at work. The question is, are Samantha and Lily truly safe at Hallow Croft?

Everything about this book just worked; the writing, the characters, the alternating timelines, the story! I can't wait to see what Martyn comes up with next!
