A shop that sells happy feelings?! I wish this place actually existed.

This was a cute and heartwarming graphic novel. I loved the story and the artwork. I loved the idea of a shop where you can purchase happy feelings. I think this would be a great book for younger and older readers. There were important life lessons explored in this story, such as appreciating what you already have, and I felt happier after reading it!

The Happy Shop was an unexpected little joy of a graphic novel. Our main character wanders into a magical shop filled with jars that have happy feelings inside. She ends up having to work off a debt to them and it turns out to be just what she is needing in her life. The only downside to this was the somewhat abrupt ending but I did like how it all concluded and look forward to reading more from this author.

A short and heart-warming graphic novel about a girl who moves to a town with a special shop selling happy feelings

I loved the concept of collecting snippets of happy memories and storing them in jars for others to experience later on!🫙 I feel like we had the groundworks for a lovely story, but certain aspects just needed a little more elaborating for it to truly work.. There was just something missing from the story?

All in all though, it's a great story for younger readers to pick up :))

An interesting look at how emotions and memories work for us. Super sweet and fun concept. Kids will love that it’s a graphic novel!

A very cute story and message! We follow eleven-year-old Darcy, as she has just moved to a new country with her mother and starts helping out in a shop that sells feelings. It is that idea that made me want to give this graphic novel a try and, to be honest, I think this would be perfect to read with children and discuss in a classroom, as the ideas and messages expressed are really important and great to talk about.

However, I did feel like we did not get much explanation as to how the shop worked, even if Darcy herself was also asking about that. I understand it is a middle grade story and it is not going to get too deep about it, especially given it is on the short side, but I would have liked to know more about the shop and how the process works. It also felt a bit weird to me, at the beginning, that an eleven-year-old girl would help out in the shop, and how she is treated by one of the sisters, but you kind of brush past that as you read on, since she is mainly just helping out, not really working, and behaves quite maturely.

This was really cute! I loved the idea of having a shop that sells feelings, it’s unique. I like how it explored feelings and didn’t just stick to one particular feeling, all emotions are important and build up on other emotions. I like the characters, they felt like normal people.

My only con is the art, I didn’t find it very good but it’s not bad to where it takes away from the story. Although I liked the color scheme, I think it balances out the story subject (Usually happy is painfully bright colors but the colors for this wasn’t over the top).

Super cute graphic novel. Love the artwork and the storyline. I am always looking for a good middle grade graphic novel to recommend to my patrons and I think this would be a great fit. It teaches the importance of not staying stuck in old ways and that doing something new isn't always a bad thing - it may be worth the risk in the end!

This was just lovely! An excellent reminder that sometimes we have to feel the sad feelings in order for the good feelings to really matter. This would be a great read for a younger person learning about processing emotions, especially if they're experiencing a big change like moving cities! This could also be a great lesson for older folks to understand that sometimes changing things can only make them better - and that it's not giving up to change! Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC!

A very sweet book about 11-year-old Darcy, who has recently moved to a new town with her mother, and there comes across a little shop run by two sisters, who catch emotional moments with magic jars, to sell to all kinds of people. But oh no, they're not selling enough..!

It's a moving tale, about finding your place and about living in the moment, all told through incredibly cute art. Very nice.

Super cute story about emotions and belonging, giving us all a little reminder to appreciate all our feelings - both the good and the bad.

This was such a cute idea for a middle grade graphic novel, and it was very sweet. The art was really lovely and I loved the colors as well. The thought of a shop that sells happy memories for people to feel better is very different and cool and it lent a nice atmosphere to the novel with its magical realism.

3,5 stars

That was... okay. A girl stumbled upon an unique shop that sells happy memories. But later the girl helped the shop owner realize that people not only need happy memories, because however nice it feels, it’s just temporary. Later they tried to change their selling tactic to stimulate the feeling of gratitude. It was nice, but nothing special.

Meet a girl named Darcy, she has just moved and IS NOT AMUSED by it. When her mom tells her to go exploring she encounters a quaint little shop that apparently sells feelings. Yes, feelings. When something happens she has to work there and that is the start of a really fun story! With magic. Acceptance. Feelings. Family. And more. And I can say that I enjoyed it all!

Meet Darcy, a girl who has moved to a whole new town, a whole new place, and she is not amused with it all. She misses her friends. Her mom is also not always very happy and we see that affecting her. But then she discovers a shop of feelings. And she gets curious. And as the story continues we see her get quite invested in this shop. About what it does. About how it works. About the people who come to visit and the people who search for feelings. I really loved seeing Darcy change and find her place. And I loved seeing her work hard at the store. Think of new ideas + more.

The store? I would definitely love to visit it. It sounds like such a wonderful place and I could use some happy feelings at times. They got quite a few different ones (like eating that first bite of ice cream or a puppy falling asleep on your lap (which my dear Coco is currently doing)) and I am curious if I would find the one perfect for me!

Flora was just so sweet and wonderful and I loved how she took Darcy under her wings. Talked to her. Told her to always come to her when she needed. Allowed Darcy to bring in ideas and taught Darcy how to do the whole feelings in a jar thing. She was just like a grandma. Cosy, warm, hospitable. I loved seeing Darcy and her getting closer and closer.

But the reason why I wouldn't rate this 4.5 or 5 stars if Frida. She was a horrible character. She does get a bit better by the end, but for most she is a grumpy old bitch. It was due to YOU that she smashed those bottles. She is just curious no need to be a rotten old hag about it. She is trying, no need to put her down. And there are more instances that I just wanted to stop reading because of Frida. Later on something big happens and seriously, that was just uncalled for.

The art was really pretty. I loved the way the characters were drawn. But the town they live in? Boy, I just wanted to step in the book and pop by some stores. Walk through the streets. Love it!

All in all, a beautiful book about finding a place to belong, about feelings, about magic, and more! I would recommend it.

The Happy Shop

I was a little skeptical due to the art style not being something I usually am a fan of. But the story honestly made me like the art style by the end. The story’s concept is so cute and heartwarming.

They collect happy feelings in jars and sell them, but their store isn’t doing great. Darcy comes in an accidently breaks a jar, so she has to somehow pay for it. They two sisters that own the shop come up with the idea to have her work after school to pay it off. In this time Darcy learns about the feelings and how to collect feelings. They come up with a plan to collect not just happy feelings to help the store. I think this might be a series and I am very excited to read the next book.

This book is very cute and gives such a warming feeling that made me very happy by the end of the book. I was lowkey in a not great mood but it is a well written pick me up.

What's happiness? Would you by shots of happiness? This place's made for it !

This book is really cute and peacefull. Happiness is not always what you think it is, maybe it's right in front of you and you're not looking at it correctly to see it. You probably have everithing you need to be happy you just not see it. Maybe that's enough.
