I had Covenant on my to-read on webtoon for so long but never got to it, so seeing it on NetGalley kinda give me the push to finally stop procrastinating.

Happy to say it's really really promising! Good old case of 'why didn't i het to it sooner?'

I would say if u like the action of shounen animes, the demon hunting and exorcisms in "Supernatural" and the badassery and religious incooperation of "The Boondock Saints", u'll be in the right place, i think.

The story itself opens up alot of interesting topics for the reader to think about. Ezras relationship with religion, and it's implications for his job, the portrayel of said religion and it's constitutions, especially the corruption in it, forgiveness and absolution...

I am not christian (from which the lore pulls his stuff from) and i am also not the most religious person but that doesn't make the discussion around this topic any less engaging. More so many.

I just wish we could have seen a bit more of Ezra + Sunny. Given the synopsis i thought it would have been a bit more of that, but most of it was world building.
Plus hope to learn more about the other characters too, as of now they aren't TOO distinct from each other.

Nevertheless i won't say no to hot people being badass (Father Aaron??? 🙂‍↕️👌 phewww what a fine man)

Thank u Netgalley and Oni Press for this free E-Arc in exchange for an honest review.

I hadn’t come across this comic before I saw it on Netgalley and oh my god it’s so good! Volume 1 (this one) doesn’t really have all that much happening (especially since I started reading it seeing the queer tags and the ML was only introduced right at the very end of this volume), BUT it really effectively sets the scene with the characters, world building, and probable conflict and I instantly had to go continue reading on Webtoon because I cannot wait to see more of my hot tattooed exorcists fight demons!! (I also plan on buying a copy of volume 1 when it’s released and I have the funds because the art is so pretty and I want to support the creator!

anywhere there's hot priests you will find me there

a queer, graphic novel by a fellow viet? sign me tf up. all i'm saying is if the priests in catholic schools looked like that, i'd be a lot more religous (/s, kinda).

covenant follows the story of ezra, an exorcist who is a part of the very small church of providence. he and his convent go around banishing demons back to the pits of hell and whatnot. he sees a vision that he must protect the mysterious new guy at college, sunny nguyen (who is, for lack of better words, super fucking hot). vol 1 leaves off with ezra and sunny in quite an awkward spot, and i cannot wait to see how their relationship progresses.

Thank you, Oni Press, Sandra Vuong and NetGalley for the digital early copy!

English is not my native language, so I will keep my review short. I can read English better than I can write it :D

Firstly? A queer supernatural action Comic (with a sexy Priest)?? SIGN ME UP

I really enjoyed the art and aesthetic of this Graphic Novel. The story is what truly captured my attention.
It's mysterious, funny, serious, full of action, sexy men and demons ;)

All in all, I really enjoyed the first volume and can't wait to read more about Samson and Ezra!

i'm so happy that this webtoon is gonna be publish, I've been following this webtoon since the beginning and I'm in love with the story, the setting, the arts... everything is perfect, Lysandra makes us more and more anxious for the next chapter

I felt that the story was a bit confusing and jumbly. Maybe a bit rushed in the world building. But most of all, the dialogue- and important part of a graphic novel - had no real flow and made the characters feel younger.

The art is gorgeous, but the book in itself didn’t catch my attention.

Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for a digital early copy of this graphic novel. This review is my honest feedback and given voluntarily.

Wow! I was really looking forward to reading this and it did not disappoint! The illustration of this graphic novel was incredible! I absolutely loved this style. Just as a preface, I had not consumed this story previously on Webtoon, so I went into this blind with nothing but the blurb. The story for this first volume has been really fascinating and mysterious and I am definitely hooked. I’m for sure sticking around for the next volume. And these characters?!?! My goodness! The sexiness is everywhere! Samson and Ezra are just 😍🥵 Even the demons are sexy as hell 😏

Ezra’s backstory is so sad and interesting. Sunny’s seems to be incredibly sad as well once we finally get a smidge of it at the end of this volume. Man, I wish this had been longer!

The fight scenes were done really well. The details in all of the appearances, even of those background characters, was just awesome. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of talent oozing from these pages. I can’t wait for more! I would love to see this as an animated series even 😍

100% recommend if you’re looking for something a little fresh and different in terms of story, as well as a little more on the new adult/adult side. Also recommend if you’re looking for a new queer GN series (if you haven’t already consumed it as a webtoon). Enjoy! 🤙🏼💕

This is an intriguing start to a series! I understand this is (was?) a webtoon, but I hadn't read it before so I was going in with no prior knowledge. This follows a church of exorcists that exorcise demons with the help of angelic blessings that they keep as tattoos. I liked the art style, and the comic has some humor to balance out the serious content. I was a little confused that they all seem to be in college? Regular college? I guess exorcism is their side gig or something. I'll check out the next volume when it's published!

The art was pretty pixelated, but I'm assuming that is just because of the advanced copy.

Thanks to the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I read Covenant when it was airing as a webtoon series and I'm excited it's getting Published. I absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the artstyle and the play on religion. It's a beautifully layered story about identity and found family.

When I first began reading this, I wasn't particularly hooked. I enjoyed the art and the aesthetic and the themes and they are what kept me reading. I felt myself skimming through some pages whilst basking in the amazing art.

With that being said, it clearly draws narrative inspiration from anime with some of the panels having similar catharsis and similarities anime reactions. Yet despite this, it feels western.

Thank you NetGalley and OniPress for the ARC of Covenant by LySandra Vuong.

The artwork was amazing in this. The action scenes were well drawn out and even the more mundane scenes were perfect.

I loved the characters. There was plenty of humor while also staying serious.

Ends on a cliffhanger which makes you want more.

this was such an interesting reading but this volume only scratched the start of the story so i was not entirely satisfied. i'll look forward reading the next volumes because i'm really curious to get to know the characters better.
the art style is flawless

Thank you Oni Press and Netgalley for the digital copy. Are you also a fan of the 2005 masterpiece Constantine? Did watching demon fighting, while also appreciating the beautiful faces of Keanu, Rachel Weiss and Tilda Swinton feel like the best time?
Then you’ll like this comic. I loved every character and am genuinely excited to see where the story goes.

Everything I loved about this graphic novel:
~the world-building
~the artwork
~the characters
~the story

Everything I hated about this graphic novel:
~it ended too soon

Seriously, I am off to continue this story on Webtoon, there is no way that I can just wait here for volume 2.

I received a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say the art for Covenant is stunning to look at. I love the look of all the characters, they're each unique from each other. The demons are creepy as they should be. The art alone would have kept me coming back, I didn't really need the words. The visuals are chef's kiss could not get enough of them.

The story is fast passed and takes you on a journey. I am a sucker for stories about demons and the ones who fight them. And Covenant does not disappoint. I love the characters of Samson and Ezra. Samson is badass and Ezra is the personification of a golden retriever. Ezra is an interesting character as well. He is an exorcist for the Church of Providence but doesn't believe in God because he has not seen God. That is fascinating to me. I love characters like this.

This book has stunning visuals, badass characters, and a compelling story. I look forward to reading the next volume. Thanks to Netgalley and Oni Press for this ARC of Covenant.

Gorgeous art style, intriguing story, and I'm really looking forward to reading more in the future!

This is entirely a personal preference and no reflection whatsoever on the author's storytelling, but I tend to prefer narratives that offer a bit of context prior to throwing me into the action. The story begins with a fight sequence, which starts with a high stakes setting, but for me, that made it more difficult to feel as if the stakes were raised as the story progressed. Again, this is an entirely personal sentiment. I think I would have felt more invested had I been given a bit more exposition up front rather than needing to piece it together later on.

All of that said, the word building was top tier, and the characters were layered and interesting. This is a magnificent, sexy, cerebral story full of banter and wit as well as philosophy and curiosity.

Unfortunately, this didn't grab me. The world-building felt confusing and rushed, and I couldn't bring myself to care about the characters. I personally found it difficult to follow, but that might've been due to the app I was using resetting every time I paused to take a break. I tried it via its original platform and it was somewhat easier. At the end of the day, I think this just wasn't for me.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I think it’s a great start to the series. It reminded me a lot of the Constantine movie with Keanu Reeves. It has both dark and satirical elements. At first, everything seems very serious, and the main protagonist, Erza - is very intimidating until he forgets the exorcism chant at the last minute and the tension drops.

The plot seemed a bit slow to develop, though. The characters are not exactly likeable right off the bat, but the diversity is fantastic. I am hoping for some future romance between several pairs of characters. The character design is great, too. I think I like Sunny even more than Ezra. I like Sunny’s broody and antisocial personality.

However, since I haven’t really seen much of the plot yet, or anything that would make it truly stand out from other similar stories, I am not able to give it a higher rating. I am looking forward to continuing with the series though.

Nevertheless, I am very grateful for an opportunity to read and review this graphic novel in advance!

This graphic novel reminds me The Priest in some ways. My fave part of this graphic novel is probably the art and its storyline. I'm really invested in the whole exorcism and Angel blessing as well as the conflict inside the church.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read.

~Thank you, author, and to the publisher for letting me read this in advance ~
