3.5 stars! This is such a cool concept and a fun, gripping read. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the demons-angels-exorcisms in Supernatural, a main character struggling with his faith, and hot tattooed characters with machine guns, knives, and chains. Our main character, Ezra, is an exorcist in a church where priests make deals with angels that grant them powers in order to protect humanity and defeat demons. Recently, there have been more demons sighted in the area, and another church thinks Ezra's church is to blame. This volume felt like a lot of world building and set-up, but it never felt slow or info-dumpy because there are plenty of exciting action sequences. I will say I still have some questions, and I also found some of the action sequences a bit blurry or hard to follow until I could see all the bodies piled up at the end. We are also introduced to what seems to be the main plot of the series, that Ezra has been tasked with protecting a boy named Sunny who is constantly being hunted by demons. I really wish that this volume would have contained a couple more episodes of the story, because we end on a cliffhanger and nothing really feels resolved. We only get a glimpse of the "slow burn queer romance" and "the weight of destiny" that are hinted at in the book's blurb. I am overall really intrigued by this exciting world and I definitely want to pick up more from this series now!

While it started pretty generic and one note for my taste in the beginning, Covenant kept me at bay for the latter half of this volume and made me want to know more about it. It took me about 100 pages to be invested in the story, which was a downer in the beginning, but I couldn't stop reading at the end. The characters are likeable, and the story, while very familiar to the supernatural drama enjoyer, hits a note that draws you in for the long run. I can't wait to see where it goes. It feels very cosy.

This was a really interest comic that was originally on Webtoon! I liked the art style a lot, but at the end of the day I don't think this darker storyline is my kinda comic. Nice pacing though and the characters were interesting, it's just not for me!

Tattoos? Hot Priests? Machine Guns? In this hit Webtoon series converted to graphic novel, all of these things come together to weave an unlikely, enjoyable tale.

Let me start by saying that the art was BEAUTIFUL in this graphic novel. I loved the attention to detail and the gorgeous characters. Where this fell short for me was the dialogue. With the art being so vivid and more “adult,” the dialogue felt kitschy and almost YA at times. The other thing that got me was the absolute CLIFFHANGER at the end. I think the story could have resolved itself while still keeping the readers interested in the series.

I will most likely continue the series as it becomes available. If you enjoy Webtoons and graphic novels, I would definitely give it a read.

I've been interested in reading Covenant for a long time, back when Vuong was first promoting their webtoon, and I'm kind of regretting not picking it up sooner now. Though, at least this gives me something I know I'm going to love the rest to binge, so it's honestly a win-win situation for me.

Covenant was an absolute delight of a read, the characters had beautiful designs and easily lovable personalities, and I loved the humor and banter between them. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and the panels flowed in a way that really helped to pull the reader along for the ride. The world Vuong created is fascinating, and I can't wait to see more of it as the rest of story develops! I'm pretty sure this is going to become an all time favorite webtoon of mine, so please, do yourself a favor and read Covenant.

A compelling mix of supernatural action, a slow-burning queer romance, and stunning artwork makes this a thrilling read. If you enjoy tales of angels, demons, and those caught between, "Covenant" is a captivating journey.

I was very excited to read this after hearing good things about the webtoon, and I was not disappointed. I thought this was so fun. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Ezra is a fun main character, and I am interested to learn more about what is going on with Sunny. I also loved the side characters. Samson is just so cool. I also really enjoyed the art style. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in this story.

I went into this uninformed, having never read the Covenant webtoon. I had a very pleasant time reading it. I mean, hot snarky muscly men with tattoos and supernatural abilities? Sign me up!

The art is incredibly beautiful and it shines especially in dynamic fighting scenes - that’s not something I usually enjoy but here I did. The story is reasonably easy to follow but keeps the mystery and promises of further demonic shenanigans.

I liked the storyline with the sinister Grand Church and the demons and also sassy Gabriel. The storyline of Ezra with Sunny was too juvenile for me although I guess it will develop into something more serious in time.

All in all, I liked it very much but did not love it - as in, I will gladly read the following instalments if I get the chance but if I don’t, I won’t be too sad.

I have a thing for queer stories with biblical themes/references so I had to grab this one as well and it DID NOT disappoint!

The style of this comic is absolutely beautiful, pleasing to look at. Not only you're gonna fall in love with characters's personalities but also their looks 😂... I mean have you seen Samson? I love her, she's so badass and gorgeous.

Everything you need to know for now is nicely explained... Different churches, different ways the exorcists deal with demons. And there's still enough space for some mystery. Whole story from the beginning to the very end was extremely interesting and enjoyable, I didn't want it to end at all... and believe me when I say it ended in the worst possible moment 😂. I need to know what happens next! Like right now!

Our main character Ezra is... well... golden retriever - nice, funny, really pleasant guy, with little darker twist I hope we'll see more in the next volume. And then there's Ezra's best friend Sister Samson. Oh how I love her, I can't even put it into words 😍... And finally our mysterious man from the cover! I don't want to spoil anything accidentally but I must say I can't wait to see what's going on with him 😂.

Okay, this was really fun. I'd say if you're a fan of the manga series' Blue Exorcist or D.Gray-man then you'll like this story. Honestly anything with exorcists. I'm not sure if by volume one I was hooked enough to be super invested but I'm intrigued enough that I'd look for book 2 when it came out to flip through it see if I like where the story is going. I loved all of the characters and the story we are beginning to plot out. I think I would have liked it a bit more if we had gotten more into the meat of the story or ended on more of a cliffhanger for book two. I just felt like I wasn't itching to pick up the next one despite how interesting the story was. The art is great and the panel work is clean. There was only like one time where I thought the panels were a bit weirdly laid out but that happens. I wanted to see more of the friend group too. It was very Ezra and Samson focused and I'd have liked to see a bit more of the others. But alas. We shall have to wait until book 2.

Really loves the art and enjoyed the story. The information on the worldbuilding kind of felt off scene in some places, but in general I really liked the whole thing! Can’t wait to read more since it stopped right in a fight scene.

I've seen this story multiple times online, but never went to read it on the website, so when I saw it on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. And I'm so glad I did, this was really good!
All I want is the next one NOW!!!! Give me more please, I need more!!

The art style was crisp, the fight scenes where so dynamic, and all the characters were really funny.
But, I only gave this four stars because the ending really felt cut short. The things I wanted to happen only did at the very end, the whole book was mostly build up for these few scenes. I would have really appreciated more.

Otherwise, I will read the next one 100%, I can't wait :)

Covenant is a graphic novel I’ve known about since its Webtoon days, but never got around to reading until I was given an ARC of the published version. I’ve been excited to dive into this one for quite a while, so it’s safe to say my expectations were high. There is something about Covenant no one can deny – the art is absolutely gorgeous. The visuals were truly stunning, and I adored how the demons were depicted.

I’m completely intrigued by all the different relationships. The potential slow burn romance developing between Ezra and Sunny could be exquisite, yet I was really engaged by Ezra’s relationship with Gabriel. I don’t know if I was reading too much into their scenes together, but I sense there could be something there? Gabriel is very mysterious and could be an exceptional love interest. I’m excited to see which way the author goes because Sunny – and the dark raincloud above his head – is also one of my favourite characters.

The religious imagery was interesting, and I loved how religion informed the storyline. The magical tattoos and the gun-wielding exorcists felt like such a unique take. I’m looking forward to seeing how the world-building develops as I want to know more about the Great Church and the order of everything. I hope there will be a strong villain coming soon. I think Sunny’s storyline is setting one up and I’m ready to see how everything unravels.

Covenant has a lot of potential and if the next few volumes deliver a good storyline, I could easily see it becoming one of my favourite graphic novels. Thank you to Oni Press for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is very entertaining! I love the art style, the story, and the characters. I find Erza humorous 😂 and it's kinda ironic that his name is Sunny when he's probably the epitome of darkness 😅

The story is sort of dark but the humor (appearing on the right part) balances it out so it is not that heavy to ready!

A book format of a comic that started life as a Webtoon, featuring demons, religion, and LGBTQIA+ romance. Maybe I've read too many comic books and manga in this general genre (supernatural action fantasy), but this just seemed like more of the same. There wasn't anything about it that felt new or different than what I've read before. To be fair, that's fine if you love this genre and just want more and more of it - and some readers do. For those readers, this book will likely be very enjoyable. But for me, this just felt like a medley of the same themes and story beats that I've read many times before. As always, this is just my personal opinion and your mileage may vary (especially if this kind of book is your jam!).

A graphic novel with queer rep and religious themes? Sign me the hell up!

I really enjoyed the start of this series with Volume 1. The tone is established right away, with lots of badass characters and high stakes, but also some silliness and goofy characters.

The world-building was a bit heavy-handed at the start, with a few scenes that seemed to be purely for exposition and establishing the lore. It wasn't unbearable, but I definitely prefer more subtle world-building and slowly figuring things out for myself.

The art was stunning, although I occasionally struggled to follow what was happening in the fight scenes. But the character designs are really cool and I can tell a lot of thought went into all the choices of clothing, colours, symbols, etc.

I’m definitely interested in reading more so I’d say this series is off to a good start! A big thank you to Oni Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this title. All thoughts are my own.

I liked this comic quite a lot. Just like more fantasy stories, I had some trouble with getting into the world settings. After getting used to the world and the magic system, I started to enjoy the story a lot more. The drawings/art are amazing and suck you right in.

Can't wait to read the next volume soon.

I first requested this arc because the name reminded of the movie The Covenant which straight away gave me queer, supernatural vibes.

World building/plot:
- I was a little hesitant about the overarching religious themes (they don't interest me a whole lot) but I like this particular take on it and being in this world with Ezra and his issues as our focus rather than it JUST being the classic sect vs sect story we often get
- I love the idea of channelling powers through arch angels and would have loved to have some of the side characters be fleshed out through this specific lenses

Characters:
- I genuinely love all the characters in this!! Ezra feels like a gen z golden retriever trying to find his way in the world
- Love the dynamics between Ezra and Samson (and their whole little gang tbh!) Very found family vibes
- I'm excited to see more of Sunny and his storyline unfold. He is so intriguing and I'm a sucker for an isolated tourted soul

Art:
- The art is stunning and consistent! I really like the characterisation and use of lighting throughout the panels.
- However I did wish for more with the backgrounds in some panels as the use of blankness left it feeling a little unfinished at times.
- Also, sometimes it was actually quite difficult to understand what was happening in a panel with movement and placement.
- The characters designs are really cool. The tattoos and their involvement in the world-building are probably one of my favourite aspects of this!
- But overall, I really loved this style of art. The character facial expressed had me cackling!!

Overall:
If you like the banter of 'Saga', and the gritty divinity vibes of 'The Wicked + The Divine', then I think this is the next graphic novel for you!

I will absolutely be following this story and early awaiting the next volume!!

An excellent beginning to a promising story.

The story follows a church of exorcists who get their powers from angels - a very controversial thing, as we soon learn because other branches of the church are keen on seeing them as devil worshippers. The MC is a college student who was saved by one of the angels and works as an exorcist but he doesn't believe in god, which may be a problem when you're working for the church. The MC is asked to watch over his fellow college student who is new to the class and seems to be followed by demons everywhere he goes.

I love the idea of getting powers from specific angels as I have always been very into Catholic mythology and the angel designs are amazing. The main cast of characters seems very unorthodox to an exorcist setting but it's very refreshing to see. While we only get a focus on three of them, they are fun to follow and have good banter. The rest I'm sure will be more flashed out as the story goes on.

The art is also great and the character designs look positively badass. I didn't have an issue with differentiating between the characters and the supernatural elements are also drawn very well.

All in all, I'd love to continue with this story when I get a chance and would recommend it.
