As usual I will not be rehashing the plot here as I believe that the professional blurb writers do a better job without giving anything away. When I started listening to this book, I thought we might be in for another run of the mill historical romance. However, half an hour in and I was hooked on the characters of Olivia and Annie. Yes, there is romance but far greater and deeper and all together more significant, is that this is a story about the power of friendship. And not just between the two girls either, all the east end characters that we meet! My one question is that is not especially about Guernsey (although the girls are there later in the book) and I therefore found the title misleading. Leaving that aside, I really enjoyed this and will look out for more books by Mary Wood. PS the narrator of the audio, Emma, did a fantastic job too.

I've absolutely loved this from the start. The story starts with the build-up to the war and is about 2 friends who really shouldn't have been friends.

Olivia is from money, and Annie was a servant for her aunt. A serious accident sees Annie becoming Olivia's companion, and a friendship blossoms.

Olivia's fiance is from Germany, and its horrible to see her neighbours tun on them. Little do they know what they are planning. This series is a trilogy, and I can't wait to find out if they succeed.

I adored The Guernsey Girls. A lovely trip back in time to meet two fantastic if seemingly unlikely friends. Olivia and Annie and all of the characters were fully formed and believable. I really enjoyed their friendship, and the lives they made for themselves along the way. I assume it’s the first in a series, at least I hope so. Very interesting that it was set just before WWII and ended on the brink, I’d love to know what happens next for The Guernsey Girls.

Beautifully written, and stunningly brought to life with the Audio narration. Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.

This was such a wonderful audiobook. I’ have never listened to any of this authors work before and i thoroughly enjoyed it. The author sets the scene in 1936. Olivia is from the island of Guernsey and is visiting her Aunt when she has to leave for London. Annie is asked to look after her and henceforth a friendship is forged. But then an accident occurs making their friendship bond more. This is such a gripping saga, set within the backdrop of the day to day struggles of war, with loyal friendship bonds, love and betrayals that make it so hard to put this book down. You become invested in the characters lives and their highs and lows and the sense of community spirit and the way they care for each others well being. Narrated by Emma Vane - she really brings all the voices to life - a superlative performance. This is an audiobook to savour and to lose yourself in and not to be missed. Thank you to Netgalley and to McMillans Audio Books for my copy.
