This is an incredible book that I've bought multiple copies of for the school library and they have proved to be really popular. A mix of activity book and non-fiction book about art, it introduces children to the work of various artists and different art styles before giving an activity for them to do themselves. Really well written with great illustrations - a lovely book for any creative child (or adult!)

A brilliant introduction to arts techniques and Art History via practical experimentation.

Learn about different artists by exploring their particular techniques and producing your own masterpieces on the way. Well, they may not be immediate masterpieces, but your children and you will have lots of fun in the process and discover their own artistic preferences and talents. Like anything, creating good art requires lots of practice.

I like this book as it is all about relaxed fun, experimentation and an outlet for free expression. The fact that each project is directed by the technique of a particular artist is fantastic, giving access to a wide range of artistic possibilities whilst surreptitiously learning about art on a technical basis. These are very practical and well translated to give a realistic experience without being too complicated. Along the way you are also learning art history, what a colour wheel is and how to use is as well as picking up technical terms and language.

I can already think of a few mothers who’d love this for their child and a few local artists and ateliers who’d appreciate it too. Definitely recommended to be used in your child’s art space. It even gives tips on how to set up your own studio. Hint: For stress free artistic experimentation, make sure it’s in an area that can get messy or is easily cleaned up!

Perfect for any shelf. A lovely informative non fiction. If it doesn't make you an artist it will certainly make you love art at least.

This book is fantastic! It showcases a range of artists from different time periods and countries and explains who they were, why their art was so good, what style of art they developed or were heavily focused on and does it all in child friendly terms and language.

I am an art teacher and find this a valuable resource. It gives the background of the artists in an appropriate way and each artist is couples with instructions on how to produce your own art in the style of this artist. The art suggestions are great activities and I'll be trying a few out in my classroom for sure. There are even art styles that I see regularly taught in schools but didn't know the artist behind them or the artist that is famous for using them. I'll definitely be crediting them in the future.

The art covered is a wide range of styles and using quite a few mediums. From textiles, to paint, to paper and sculpture. Would highly recommend that you add a copy to your classroom library.

Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

As a non-artist, I found this to be fascinating. Filled with lots of short activities, often linked to famous artists or historical periods, I wanted to have a go and was proud of my creations covering a range of different media. The text is presented in short bursts of information which is perfect for children wanting to access this themselves. I was delighted to see a couple of my favourite artists included and some which were less familiar.
This will be perfect for anyone, adult or child, who wants to get creative.
