James Keene’s newest book The Chicago Phoenix is a sort of prequel to the award winning Apple series Black Bird. Keene’s writing is reminiscent of Elmore Leonard, with a natural voice that keeps you hooked.
This memoir takes you from the through Jimmy Keene’s past which led to going undercover to catch a serial killer, but is a story worth hearing in it’s own right. Keene’s talent and voice stand out in this novel. I highly recommend everyone read this book. It deserves its own show.

This was a really crazy story that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I found it to be a decently written true crime book relating all that the author had been through. Both in his earlier life and then in prison. Bizarre stuff.
