I have mixed feelings on this book as a large part of me enjoyed the story but I didn’t really enjoy the horror part of it so much as I’m not really a fan of that kind of genre. All that being said this was a well crafted story that kept my interest throughout its quite a big book and possibly a bit too long but this is just my opinion.
Good characters and beautiful setting in the Lake District which is a wild and desolate area in some parts so fitted this book perfectly. I liked the way the author wrote and the pace of the book was good and I’m looking forward to more from her so long as it’s a little less horror lol!!
My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction, Harper Voyager for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

"The Hungry Dark" by Jen Williams is a masterful exploration of the human psyche amidst a backdrop of horror and suspense. Williams intricately delves into the depths of fear and survival, using her characters as vessels to navigate the murky waters of their own inner demons. The novel's chilling atmosphere and well-crafted tension draw readers into a world where darkness reigns, both externally and internally. Through the struggles of her flawed yet resilient characters, Williams prompts us to confront our own fears and vulnerabilities, challenging us to consider the lengths we would go to in order to survive. With its thought-provoking themes and immersive storytelling, "The Hungry Dark" offers a gripping and introspective journey that will leave a lasting impression on readers long after the final page.

After an intriguing beginning and introduction to not so psychic Ashley I knew I'd love this book. It had all the aspects of paranormal novels I love, dark shadows, mystery, secrets and foreboding. The pace was slower than I expected but once I fell into the story it was worth spending the time with the characters as the tension and danger increased with Ashley's search for the truth.
Having the investigation linked to a true crime podcast worked well and was great at explaining the history surrounding the house and area.
It's a haunting crime thriller that hovers on the edge of horror. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Kids go camping near a cursed mountain - what could go wrong The premise, set up and writing were really good but the addition of the sham psychic changed the feel of the novel for me and it's something I think it could have done without and been better for it. Scary in many parts and I enjoyed the read.

I read and adored Games for dead girls last year so when I saw that Jen Williams had a new book I requested it without reading the blurb and I'm so glad I did.

Ashley is a psychic who had a traumatic experience when she was a child. She offers her assistance to the police when a number of children are kidnapped and murdered she finds the body of a missing child.

She teams up with American true crime podcaster Freddie to investigate the crime and things just keep getting stranger and stranger.

I can't wait to read the authors next book. 😍

"The Hungry Dark" is a thriller novel, with paranormal elements, written by Jen Williams.

Dark, eerie and compelling book that captured me completely! I was fascinated by the intriguing and macabre story, the mysterious and atmospheric setting, the bewitching and evocative prose, and the tormented and beautifully portrayed protagonist! I loved the more supernatural part of the book, with elements veering toward horror, as well as the numerous references to Celtic folklore! I admit that I guessed the various plot twists in advance and found the ending a bit rushed, but overall I enjoyed "The Hungry Dark" a lot !

Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
