Love at first Knight was a sweet and nerdy escape in form of a book 🏰⚔️❤️
I loved coming back to the Tower of London in one of Megan‘s book but seeing it from a different perspective.
For me, the story started out a bit slow and it kind of remained unclear for me why Daisy struggled with the relationship with her father. Does he amplify her anxiety and is not mindful of it? It seemed like it.
When Daisy arrived at the Tower we first met Ellis (and I was kind of surprised at the turn that took in the end because that was a little random imo) but it soon becomes clear that there is someone way more interesting for our girl 😏 but oc they need to start of as enemies because this is an enemies x lovers 😂⚔️
The relationship between Teddy and Daisy did not develope in an organic way because for a very long time they kept antagonizing each other with no end. But suddenly this all turned and they were in love? There were definitely a few holes in this love story for me.
But when they were together (especially at the LARP) they were the cutes cutie patooties 💕
In the end, Love at first knight did not hold up the same for me as did Falling hard for the royal guard which was a five star read for me.
I will definitively be reading more of Megan’s books if there are more to come out because I love the atmosphere she creates and the unusual setting the chooses for her books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Firstly I want to say thank you to @netgalley and @meganambxr for giving me the opportunity to read this arc copy

Well what can I say normally I don’t read a rom com but because I loved Falling for the royal guard I knew I needed to read this too,

We meet Daisy who is struggling with anxiety of moving, new job and all over things but she’s also a risk taker in some sense when she goes onto the LARPING battlefield. (Lady “A”)

Then you meet the dashing but powerful Viscount Teddy who you find very standoffish and not so very subtle flirty on his part

The progress between Teddy and Daisy made me feel like I’m was a teenager again meeting my first love but apart from loathing each other it’s a slow burn but don’t worry they get there in the end

If you love nerdy romances than this is for you
4/⭐️

“Why are you so afraid of the real world?”

Daisy Hastings has always been shy and hidden away from the real world, choosing to let her real self out through her LARP alter-ego Lady Alenthaea.

When she ends up working at the Tower of London at their Knight school and meeting the incredibly annoying and frustrating (but very handsome) Teddy Fairfax, she’s forced to confront herself and discover what’s real and what’s not.

This is such a sweet enemies to lovers rom-com and a brilliant follow up from Megan’s debut Falling Hard for The Royal Guard which I also loved, there’s also a cameo from the characters from the first book which made me smile!

I adored Daisy she was such a relatable character who I was rooting for from page one, she’s shy and nerdy and just everything I love in a book heroine.

Daisy and Teddy were polar opposites but they worked so well together. Both of their characters had depth and you uncover more about both of them and why they are they way they are as you read on and you’ll be desperately rooting for them to get together.

I loved this just as much as the first novel and I can’t wait for the next.

This novel took me a little while to get into. I found myself becoming more engaged at around 35% only for that to drop off again later on.

I feel as though nothing really happened in this book. And I really didn't like Teddy so struggled with the romance also - it felt unrealistic and I feel as though the two main characters had no chemistry. The Ellis plotline didn't really result in much happening - not even jealousy/a revelation to feelings so I struggled to understand the point of it.

It felt to me as though Teddy spent 80% of the book being horrible to Daisy and then the last 20% was a rushed attempt to redeem him. I'm a huge lover of enemies to lovers but the rudeness and selfishness that Teddy expressed to Daisy really did not get redeemed in my opinion.

I really loved the quirky-ness of this book. It was refreshing to see a 'nerdy' but cool character (even if she didn't feel 'cool' in herself at times.)

I also particularly enjoyed the anxiety portrayal and the way this character managed her anxiety. I refreshing look on a seemingly very personal relationship with anxiety and self-confidence/worth.

Tropes/Microtropes

A unique, closed door romance if you fancy a change in read.

Thankyou to netgalley and avon for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for a fair review.

Thanks to Netgalley I got this book and I loved it.
It's the second book by Megan Clawson and loved both of them.

It's a cute story about Daisy who lives with her family who all love to LARP. She meets viscount Theodore Fairfax at the knightschool in the Tower of London. They're complete opposites but fall in love, lots of banter and a HEA.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, sweet and kept me reading. I enjoyed this book and will look for more books by this author.

I really wanted to give this book a shot. I had DNF’d her first book, Falling Hard For The Royal Guard. I wanted to give the second book a fair shot, especially since Megan is a fairly new author. However, I just couldn’t get into this book as much as I wanted. I really enjoyed the nerdy aspect of it and going deep into the world of LARPing. However, there was just something that prevented me from getting fully invested in the main character’s story. I unfortunately couldn’t find myself finishing this book and had to put it away. Megan is a wonderful author, I just couldn’t connect to the plot, which is no fault to her. I may have to try and pick this book back up later in life, but for now it’s just not for me.

✨Book Review: Love at First Knight by Megan Clawson✨

I was kindly sent this book as an ARC reader from NetGalley! This story follows Daisy Hastings and Theodore “Teddy” Fairfox. These two characters can’t seem to stay away from one another (not for lack of trying) and end up hating one another (or do they really) I loved the references to the Lord of The Rings and Daisy’s brother Samwise (Samwise Gamgee eat your heart out) is absolutely hilarious. I also love the royal references which I think Megan does really well through her own personal knowledge! The concept of LARPing was a huge factor in this book and I’ve never seen anything quite like it! If you are looking for a quite easy lighthearted read then I would suggest adding this book to your TBR as it releases today!🥳🥳

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books!

I adored the premise of this book! A book with LARPing, a chaotic fmc always looking for escape, and a broody mmc. The Tower of London setting is so unique and really drew me in.

The start was fun and engaging but I quickly found myself skimming ahead. Seeing other reviews, I think a lot of people will love this but for right now it's going to be a soft dnf.

I received an ARC via NetGalley and Avon Books UK and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect.Love at First Knight is told through Daisy's pov and is a story about self discovery.

CW: anxiety and panic attacks, talks of physical intimacy, a secondary character dated someone of the same sex
Language: cursing, including British swears, and biblical exclamations, including using God's name in vain and a comment about a certain denomination that are offensive
Spice: only kissing that isn't steamy

If you've never experienced the same feelings that Daisy has, then this book may not be enjoyable for you but I think her story was important. Her anxiety had kept her in a safe bubble and I liked seeing her push herself as she took on a new challenge. I liked the moments when her bold side came out and she took charge, which typically ended up happening when she was around Theodore. As a royal, he had a certain attitude that he lived up to and clashed with Daisy. Their banter was fun to read but I would've liked to see more of them as a couple. Aside from them, I enjoyed the relationship that Daisy had with her family and the support that she got from him. I wasn't expecting LARPing to play such a huge role in the story and it was interesting and I'm sure those who love that will love this book.

Let me start off by saying I did actually enjoy this book.. However, I do wish the wow moment for me happened a lot earlier than it did. I started to really enjoy the book around halfway through because thats when the storyline really kicked off. I know the first part of the book was getting to know each character and the start of Daisy's storyline.. but I was slightly confused at what was going to happen.

The Romance in this book was very small and if you need a cute fluffy romance then this is a read I would suggest. Teddy grew on me as the pages went by and when he spoke about who he wanted to be, I felt I understood him in some way. This is an opposites attract book where both main characters a very different.

I have never read a book with some kinda of historical element so this was an interesting read and I did actually learn something whilst reading.

Thank you so much for allowing me to review this book!

This has all the charm of “The Prince and Me” but with swords. Daisy is a bit of a chaotic mess but when she shines, oh does she shine. Between found family and her actual family this story is so filled with love before you even reach her actual love interest that I was warmed from the very beginning. I loved this and I love Megan’s writing so much.

I am giving this a middle of the road star equivalent for the amount of the book that I read but letting you know I did not finish the book. I loved the premise and beginning of this book, LARPing (Live Action Role Play (ing)) sounds fun! I really enjoyed reading about Daisy and her character for LARPing, I loved hearing her making up stories for her character. But once she gets going to London the book slowed down for me. I thought Ellis would be her match but instead it was Teddy and for some reason that's where my brain checked out. Teddy is kinda mean to Daisy or "Petal" as he calls her which I get if you're who he is doing what they are but I just couldn't get behind it. I will also say Daisy having to rely on her "alter ego" so much made me really worried just because I understand having to get courage to do things you wouldn't normally do but every day? For everything? This is coming from a girl with wild anxiety I just couldn't imagine having to go into my alter ego side to enforce to someone my name. I do love how Daisy's "quirks" if you will, it's never addressed as a neurodivergent thing, but I love how she goes about them with her roommate Bobble. I think seeing Bobble see her for who she is and going with the flow and accommodating her is what all neurospicy kids want.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Megan Clawson for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Love at First Knight coming out April 25, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I thought the title was fun. I love stories set in England and medieval history is a fun subject. Unfortunately, this book didn’t really work for me. I felt like it was getting too long and I wasn’t interested in the story as it went on. The characters didn’t do it for me. I know 20-something’s are still young, but they acted immaturely a lot of the time. Daisy seemed to be wishy-washy and judgmental. I wasn’t a fan of hers. I would check out other books by this author though.

I hadn’t yet read a book with LARPing and I LOVED IT! It was so fun to read!
Daisy had a character arc I really adored, her finding herself and her confidence and coming to love herself was really heartwarming and with her family backing her it just felt so warm and fuzzy😭💜
The downside of this book was the romance, I just didn’t feel connected to them in a romantic way, it felt short for me. I definitely wanted her to be with Ellis, he seemed more fit for her. Teddy was the big rude broody man, Ellis was the sweet supportive type who would have helped her every step with her mental health journey, just felt like she was with the wrong guy!

This is the second book i've read from Megan Clawson and I really enjoyed it! Going into it I had no idea what LARPing was but really enjoyed reading about and learning about it, I loved that the story was a little different in that aspect and very entertaining, but......if there is one aspect of this story that was incredibly entertaining....Teddy....that is all!

I loved the chemistry between him and Daisy, i mean yes she doesn't exactly like him....but the banter is 10/10!

Highly recommend it's a really fun story

I am a big fan of the Tower of London setting of this book and the one before it. I think Daisy is a very different character than Maggie in the first book. Her confidence comes from a character she plays and while she learns to gain that confidence herself, she manages to also get a 'prince's' attention. I was worried for a bit there would be a love triangle, which is not always my favorite thing but I am excited to see whatever stories happen (maybe featuring a certain American archivist?). I really enjoy how different this book is, at least for me, with a setting somewhere I wish to visit one day.

DNF at 30%

I really wanted to enjoy this story as the premise sounded interesting, however I just felt disconnected to the characters and found I was scanning through what was happening as opposed to absorbing it. Whilst I didn't see the appeal, I can understand how others might enjoy the story and the characters.

When Daisy gets a job at a Knight academy for children during the summer holidays based at the Tower of London she never thought she'd meet her knight in shining armour.

She didn't... He met his.

This was a sweet novel. The humour had me chuckling in places and the characters were well written.

I loved Bobble and the quirky band of misfits who made up the fellowship in the village hall. However, at times the story for me just didn't move along in a way that made me feel as if the 'love' aspect of the story worked, though I did like the slow burn and how the enemies part of the trope did not just linger for a few chapters.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

3.75 stars

Love at First Knight is a heart-warming royal romance crossed with LARP-ing which is fun and at times a bit ridiculous. I found myself giggling away and kicking my feet with how much I loved the development of the couple's relationship. This is a light-hearted rom-com that touches on some bigger themes of comparing yourself to others, anxiety and building relationships with people.

I did find this one a little bit slower than the previous book, Falling Hard For the Royal Guard, and there were a lot of chapters that were very descriptive and even some that became long monologues - which I do think added to the story but at the detriment of the pacing in that it slowed it down.

The characters were nerdy, supportive, and included some good representation of anxiety in my opinion. I adored the cameo of the previous couple too!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
