*The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered* is a lovely, honest picture book that speaks to the fact that sometimes we need to sit with our feelings. The book demonstrates the importance of being authentic -- of both sharing our feelings and listening to and respecting the feelings of others.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC of this!

Very cute story about a cat who seems to be struggling with depression and how his friends meet him where he is. The art style was adorable, and both of my kids liked the story.

A heart-tugging tale of a sad kitty disconnected from life until his friends reach out to him. Perfect for readers 2-6 years and everyone taken by the charming illustrations.

I chose this book because I love cats and books, so what could be better than a book about a cat. But this one made very little impression on me. The plot was simple and predictable. The art was minimalist. I can't say that either the text or the book were bad. It just seems that shortly after reading it, I'd pretty much forgotten about it.

This was a cute kids book about a cat who doesn’t want to do any of the fun adventures his friend invites him to do because he’s feeling sad and just wants to relax. I feel like it’s a good starting place for parents to have a discussion about feelings, sadness, mental health, etc. The artwork was bright and colorful.

Thanks to the author and publisher for the arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The cute cat in this book is a great example of emotions for kiddos. Great for read aloud and discussion for children (and adults) of all ages.

The Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered is a cute picture book about a black and white cat who doesn’t want to do anything, no matter what his friends suggest. The art is simple and charming, with block colors and few lines. The handwritten text adds character to the book and emphasizes the cat’s depressed feelings. I like the message that it’s okay to do nothing sometimes, and a cat is the perfect animal to communicate this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the free copy in return for my honest review.

This was a cute little book about friends digging in a little when one of their group "couldn't be bothered" to join in any fun activities with them. When they asked a few follow up questions, he admitted that he was sad and just wanted to do nothing, so they all decided to do nothing with him, with his ok.

The artwork was simple, but fun and bright. I can see little kids enjoying the art and the increasing silliness of the activities the friends were planning to do.

This didn't knock my socks off, but I am planning to get a copy of this for my friends' little one. I am sure he will enjoy it as he likes picture books where animals are the MCs.

3, solid and cute, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books for an eARC of this book to read and review.

Loved this book! It reminded me of a lot of the cats I know! I also liked the simplicity of the inside of the book, it added to the level of humour as well.

This is a lovely book. It speaks about sadness and depression in a very simple, matter-of-fact way while simultaneously making one smile (even giggle with delight) in recognition of cats´ (our own) behavior. Wonderful!

Princess Fuzzypants here: Sorry. This doesn’t often happen, especially with children’s books but I just didn’t get anything out of the book- neither the none story nor the artwork. I guess I just couldn’t be bothered.

Two purrs and no paws up.

Some cats just come across as lethargic couch potatoes or party poopers. This is where we meet Greg. No one can seem to get him to do anything at all. Greg just sits around and doesn’t do anything at all. He’s asked to go to parties, to play, and all sorts of things. Finally, Greg tells his friends what’s really going on. That’s when he finds out that he’s not alone. I shared this story with my kid and we had a great conversation about sad days and what helps him to feel better. Just the fact that this book prompted that discussion earns it 3 stars. It gets another for the cute and quirky illustrations. I’m glad we got to review this book and will watch for the author in the future.

I would like to thank the author, publisher, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cat doesn't want to do anything - none of the activities his friends suggest. Finally someone askes him what he wants to do and he explains that he is sad and just doesn't want to do anything. The other cats ask if they can join him in doing nothing (in a supportive way) and we learn they've been calling him the wrong name throughout the book. An excellent book for normalizing the feeling of sadness and not wanting to do anything but just be.

Though all his friends are filled with fun suggestions for nifty things to do, this cat just can't be bothered to participate in ANY activities. There's a reason why, though, and when his pals learn why the cat doesn't want to play, they're understanding and helpful. I'm normally not a big fan of "emotions" books, but this author doesn't club you over the head with it. The read is kind of mellow, and might make a perfect rainy day book. It kind made me want to go lie down.

And, I definitely like the name Greg for a cat.

This is a really charming book that addresses the subject of depression in an accessible and light-hearted way.

One of the first things I noticed was the illustrators use of colour as a story telling medium- "Greg" is black and white while all his friends are drawn in bright colours reflecting his lack of joy and enthusiasm.

My takeaway moral was that even if other people seem to be fine they may also have their struggles and that sometimes it's okay to just do nothing.

This story also has little bit of a comedic twist that ends the book on a lighter note, something that is needed in a book aimed at children.

Overall, this is a great conversation starter about feeling sad and how that can present and open up discussions on depression with smaller humans.

I am always drawn to books that have a cat on the cover, whether it is a novel, non-fiction, or children’s picture book. The Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered is a story that introduces children to feelings and emotions. I loved the simplistic illustrations and message this book delivers. I received a digital copy of Jack Kurland’s picture book to review. Thanks to the author and publisher and NetGalley for my copy.

A lovely picture book. The drawings were simple, but therefore very effective. The story itself was nice with a good message to children. The ending felt a little abrupt for me. But a delight nonetheless.

I love a picture book starring a kitty, and this was no exception. I totally related to this cat, and I really appreciated that his friend finally got to the bottom of it. It's an important message in a quirky package.

The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered is an adorable picture book with an important message. Greg the cat isn't in the mood to hang out with any of his friends who keep asking him to do things with him. Eventually one of his friends offers to "do nothing" with Greg instead, since everyone has those days now and then where they don't feel like doing anything. The illustrations are beautiful and thoughtful, contrasting Greg's monochrome coat against the color of his friends. This picture book was short and sweet with younger appeal.
