IT TAKES A PSYCHIC Jayne Castle
Any time Jayne Castle publishes another book about the world of Harmony, it’s a cause for celebration. It Takes a Psychic is no exception.
Leona Griffin is a para-archaeologist whose job is to authenticate alien artifacts. This story starts with her being called to a gala evening at the Antiquarian Society to confirm that their artifacts are indeed alien and therefore very, very old. For these items to be in private hands means a black market and that a lot of money has changed hands.
Enter Oliver Rancourt, a man with the ability to remain unnoticed by everyone, except, that is, Leona.
Leona is surprised to find a box from old Earth alongside the alien artifacts, since most of what the colonists brought with them did not do well in the new world. Surprised and apprehensive, she decides to slip out early, but finds a trail of blood that leads to a dead body on the premises. Oliver shows up and guides her out through the alien tunnels that lie under the city.
So, what is so important that it is hidden inside the old Earth box? And who is willing to kill to get to it? And even more important, why is what is hidden in the box so important to both Oliver and Leona and not just to the killer?
For anyone who is unfamiliar with Jayne Castle’s books, she has created the world of Harmony, which emigrants from Earth colonized over ancient, alien ruins. Several generations have now lived on Harmony, which has influenced the psychic abilities of its populace to some degree. Some people can make their living by tapping into this psychic energy, such as Leona being able to authenticate the alien artifacts and Oliver remaining unnoticed in social environments.
Action, tension, romance and humor are blended in exactly the right quantities.
Well done, Jayne Castle.
I am absolutely delighted that NetGalley sent me this book to read and review.

this is a very well organized reading journal. i've been looking for one for months as i'm trying to transition to more prepared and polished reviews on goodreads, storygraph, etc. other digital journaling resources i’ve found were either too intensive, or not retailed enough, on too expensive. i love that netgalley is expanding its focus and supply things like this for free.

An adorable reading journal for all ages! It is even includes space to have a photo of yourself! I can imagine printing this journal for my daughter or even saving it for future perusal!

Absolutely love this reading journal! Thanks so much NetGalley for making this available to us readers!

This reading journal is a PDF that's easily useful to track reading digitally with review pages tacking and customization. It is designed in a simple and effective manner where the functionality is easy to organize, track and reflect upon the journal spreads.

I used this briefly, but whilst I did use it I found it to be quite useful in documenting the books I was reading. I also really enjoyed the layout of each page, and getting to put in each little bit of the book I was reading.

Perfect to jot down the numner of books I read and track the dnfsPerfect for jotting down the number of books I read and tracking the books I didn't finish.

I'm completely in love this reading journal! It's absolutely perfect for keeping track of my NetGalley reads.

Great free journal. I Ioved the space provided for the book review. I think if they added links from your shelf to the actual book review would be great so you can go to the specific book review without scrolling so much.

An excellent way to record your reading. I am yet to work out how to add stickers and the book title images, maybe because I’m on a tablet. An excellent resource though for NetGalley reading.

Finally using this a few years late! Thank you for the downloadable gift and its thoughtful content.

i was very excited by the prospect of this, however upon first trying to use it i couldn’t figure it out. i didn’t go back and try and then did not get a chance to figure out how to use this last year. will review the 2025 journal instead which i am going to really give a good go at. giving 3 stars as i didn’t get to use it but it was my own fault for not putting the time in to figure it out.

This reading journal was super helpful for tracking my thoughts and progress. I would highly recommend it to any NetGalley reader!

The idea of making this Reading Journal available was absolutely brilliant!
It’s going to be a huge help for organizing my reading life and tracking my progress in a much clearer way.
The design and color choices are beautiful, and the sections are really well laid out.
There’s space to get creative, but also plenty of structure for serious organization.
You can tell this was made with care and a true understanding of its audience — readers.

This is very cute. I love the colors. I think this is a great way to track the books read and reviewed.

It is a very good reading kit. It contains attractive and interesting elements. Thank you for providing such a valuable resource, I will certainly use it.

With ADHD a journal or notebook of any kind is hard to stick to, but this digital option is easy to use and one that I continue to go back to.

This reading journal is absolutely beautiful! The Original Palette design is both calming and vibrant, making it a joy to open and use. I love how thoughtfully it's laid out—plenty of space to jot down reviews, track reading goals, and reflect on what I’m reading throughout the year.
The prompts are engaging without being overwhelming, and I really appreciate the balance of structure and flexibility. It feels like it was made for readers, by readers. I can already tell this is going to be a regular part of my reading routine.
Highly recommend to fellow book lovers who want to be more intentional with their reading life!

Annoying that I have to review this to get it off my shelf. I don't see the point of reviewing this.

Digital journaling is new to me and I am grateful to Netgalley for providing me with such an accessible, fun way to track my annual reading journey. I love all the fun categories and tracking that I will be able to do especilly because it is easy to use and the pages end up being really pretty and enjoyable to look at. The stickers and covers are a perfect addition. I am looking forward to learning more and hopefully getting better at using this as time goes on. Thank you for all the terrifically bookish pages!
