I had a debate with myself about posting a review for this because I hate giving bad reviews… but here I am.

The premise started out good enough but after a few pages, it started dragging.

I didn’t finish it because I just couldn’t make myself read anymore than 100. I tried.

I will not post this on Goodreads.

This book reminds me of Knock Knock the worst movie I have seen…

In the beginning I enjoyed it but as time went on this whole story seemed so pointless it felt like pure torture. This is marked as a horror but it didn’t felt like one.

The story is about a very popular singer YuYu who’s fame is fading after twenty years but there are some hardcore fans of her, their obsession is starting to intensify with the holidays, they want some quality Yu time.

This book started out so well so I’m ever more disappointed with the second half of the book.

Unfortunately I would not recommend this book to anyone.

A great Christmas thriller, mixed in with the current focus of celebrities and fans or fanatics (Yunatics) as shown in this book. I really enjoyed it overall.

Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for a copy to review.

This was a short fun thriller. Very Mariah Carey vibes with this one. I myself can't stand her song, This book was fun. It wasn't the best, but it did have it's good moments too. I found some bits to be more enjoyable than others, and the writing itself didn't pull me in as much as the story. I suggest this if your looking for a short fun thriller for the holiday season.

3.5 stars

In this Christmas/horror novella, YuYu - a Mariah Carey-esque diva with a long-standing Christmas No. 1 - comes face-to-face with the consequences of fame.

This started very strong. It was over the top, campy and hilarious. It poked fun at the glitz and drama pop superstars surround themselves with. But as the story went on, it lost some of that fun and whimsy. It felt like the opening chapters and the main plot were two separate stories merged together. I still enjoyed it but I definitely preferred the earlier silliness of the Yunatics.

I received this book for free from netgalley in exchange for a review.

"All I Want for Christmas is Yuyu" offers a unique take on the thriller genre, providing readers with an interesting narrative that blends festive charm with unexpected twists. While the novel had its moments, it left me yearning for that special spark that truly connects a reader with a story.

One of the aspects that left me somewhat dissatisfied was the writing style. It didn't quite resonate with me, as I found it to be a bit too formal or lacking the emotional depth I usually seek in a thriller. The narrative, though compelling, felt like it missed an opportunity to truly immerse the reader in the spooky atmosphere. However, where the novel shines is in its presentation of unique and captivating characters. Despite my reservations about the writing style, the characters managed to stand out as the driving force of the story. Their complexities and quirks added layers to the narrative, making it a pleasure to follow their individual journeys. The author deserves credit for crafting personalities that are both memorable and intriguing. Although the plot held promise and the characters were a highlight, I couldn't help but feel that the overall story failed to fully capture my attention. It lacked that magnetic pull that makes you eagerly turn the pages, especially in a holiday-themed novel where one expects a certain level of enchantment.

In conclusion, "All I Want for Christmas is Yuyu" is a commendable attempt at a holiday thriller with its unique characters and festive setting. While it may not have entirely won me over due to my reservations about the writing style and the missing allure, it still offers an engaging read for those who appreciate character-driven stories with spooky twists!

All I Want For Christmas Is YuYu is essentially a Christmas version of Misery involving a singer, YuYu who is responsible for the biggest Christmas song of all time 'You Can't Wrap a Thought'. This book explores themes of fame, obsession and how far people will go to stay in the spotlight.

This book was super fast-paced and short so I got through it in one sitting. Therefore, it felt a bit like a fever dream and had me gripped the entire time. I thought the commentary on the effects of fame and hero worship of singers was really interesting and very relevant. The Christmas element of the book was a fun contrast the otherwise dark and foreboding atmosphere created. Some of the plot twists were great and I didn't see them coming at all.

However I feel that the characters really let this novella down as I found them quite one dimensional and unlikeable. I do wish this had been turned into a full length book so we could've delved deeper into the character's backstories and motivations. For me some of the content of this book got unnecessarily graphic and I do think this is more of a horror novel than a mystery/thriller which is what it is advertised as being on NetGalley.

Overall, this was an okay, quick read and I would recommend this if you're looking for a darker, festive read. However be sure to check out the trigger warnings if you are going to read this as it gets quite graphic at times.
