This book was a wonderful YA, dark academia blast of fast paced intrigue and action.

Set in an elite (aka super expensive) boarding school, we follow Andy's (full name Andromeda) attempts to uncover the real story behind the death of her sister.

This book was fast paced, twisting and turning through the dark and mysterious with a rich cast of characters along the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC!

All the devils is a dark academia fantasy set at an elite boarding school. It follows Andy (Andromeda) on a mission to uncover what has happened to her sister and in doing so, uncovers secrets and magic.
The characters and the scenery were all exquisitely, especially when we went to the Underworld. The twists just kept coming when it came to Jae and I spent a good deal of time picking my jaw up off the floor.

I want to say thankyou to NetGalley and the author for giving me the opportunity to have an advanced copy of this book.

‘I will uncover the twisted truth, even if it kills me’

A dark academia story full of death, secret societies, lies, betrayal, demons and monsters.

Andromeda refuses to believe her sister is dead, and soon sets out on her mission to uncover the truth of what happened at Ravenswood academy, a school full of entitled and arrogant teens.

Andy meets Jae, who agrees to help her in her pursuit to uncover the tragedies that are ruthlessly covered up, and come up against a secret society known as the tooth and talon. Jae however, has his own reasons for helping in mind.

This story had me gripped from beginning to end, and I simply cannot wait for it to come out so I can have a physical copy to read all over again.
High praise for this book, it was my first in the dark academia genre, and it certainly won’t be the last.

All the Devils by Catelyn Wilson offers a complex tapestry of elements that, despite initial struggles, ultimately weave together to create a compelling narrative.

The delayed immersion into the story could be seen as a deliberate choice by the author, perhaps to mirror the gradual unveiling of secrets within the plot itself. This slow burn approach, while challenging for some readers, sets the stage for a more intense and rewarding experience as the story progresses.

The lack of development in the relationship between Violet and Andy is a valid criticism, yet it also serves to reflect the enigmatic nature of their connection. The mysterious circumstances surrounding Andy's arrival at Violet's school, devoid of a clear explanation beyond the absence of a tattoo, adds an air of intrigue that propels the narrative forward.

The abundance of characters with minimal development may initially frustrate readers, but it also mirrors the chaotic nature of the underworld and the school environment. This lack of familiarity with the characters enhances the sense of unpredictability and danger lurking within their midst, keeping readers on edge and eager to uncover more about their motivations and backgrounds.

Despite these challenges, the book shines in its portrayal of the relationship between Andy and Jae. The gradual evolution of their bond amidst the turmoil of their journey adds depth and emotional resonance to the narrative, providing a much-needed anchor for readers amidst the chaos.

The fusion of mystery and fantasy elements is a standout feature of the book, injecting a sense of wonder and excitement into the storyline. Wilson's vivid prose and meticulous world-building draw readers into a richly imagined setting, allowing them to experience the wonders and dangers of the underworld and the school through the eyes of the characters.

In conclusion, while All the Devils may have its shortcomings, it ultimately succeeds in delivering an engaging and immersive reading experience. Its unique blend of mystery, fantasy, and character-driven storytelling, coupled with Wilson's evocative writing style and world-building prowess, ensures that readers will find plenty to enjoy and ponder long after they've turned the final page.

Convinced that her sister Violet is alive, Andy enrolls at Ravenswood Academy to find out what happened to her.

There is something dark in the school and Andy quickly realises that Violet’s elite friendship group cannot be trusted.

After finding clues in her sisters room and in the greenhouse that reference the way of Anubis, Andy ends up teaming up with mysterious new student Jae to unravel and expose the inner workings of the academy.

However, finding out what happened to Violet and preventing further atrocities may just mean moving beyond the realms of the earthly world.

An imaginative combination of dark academia and mythology. I’d be interested in what happens next.

For fans of Joanne Harris’s Runelight series.

Sorry but I DNF'd this one. I felt the book lost momentum around halfway through and I realised I didn't care for the characters enough to keep going.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of the arc!

When I say I devoured this book because I needed to know what was going to happen next I am not lying! This book follows a good pace but then at the 70% mark amps up the pace which was a bit of a shock at first, I didn’t really like it but I get why it needed to happen.

I really enjoyed the ending of the book because it what it wanted to happen and with following the story line there was never going to be a perfect ending which is nice because it’s refreshing compared to other books in other genres!

Andromeda at first isn’t a very likeable character but as she finds her footing in life and through this tragedy she warmed on me and I really wanted her to succeed.

Overall, it was a really good book that focused on a lot of different topics that I wasn’t expecting it to. This dark academia, magical realism book that slipped between the veils of life and death should be high on everyone’s list because it was unputdownable and really enjoyable! 4.25 stars!

I received a free e-copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it! This book had everything you could want in a dark academia novel. Magic, murder, occult vibes... It is wonderfully written and had the perfect amount of tension and a little bit of romance. The characters are very complex and I enjoyed the relationship between Andy and Violet. The magic was fun. I loved all the underworld stuff with the blend of Egyptian and other mythologies.
This was a really fun (but dark!) read and I would definitely read more from this author :)

If you liked Ninth House or Wednesday then you might like this book.

The plot is quite fast, Andy goes straight into investigating what happened to her sister.

The morally grey characters were fascinating to read about because of their questionable intentions and motivations throughout the book.

Jae, who helps Andy investigate, was my favourite character and at first I wasn’t that invested in him, but then you find out there’s actually more to him than meets the eye as you read the book.

The plots twists however were slightly predictable and it sort of ruined the surprise factor for me since the plot twists only confirmed my theories and suspicions.

I don’t know if it was just me but the writing style was a little confusing for me. I sort of struggled to visualise settings in the book from the descriptions written. But maybe the writing style just didn’t match my tastes.

Dark Academia, murder, magic and mayhem. This arc seemed right up my alley, however its left me feeling split. The plot and premise are great, we have a bunch of elites at a fancy school who may or may not hold the secret to what happened to our leading ladies elder sister - Andy.
Andy arrives at the school dead set on unravelling her sisters clues and the mysterious circumstances of her death/disappearance. However the mystery seems lackluster as Andy seems to repeatedly accidentally discover the next clue/ overhear the vital conversations that drag us through this plot. She doesn't appear to work out much herself.
Next she lacks evey sneaky behaviour needed for solving a mystery, she approaches and unsubtly interrogates her fellow classmates she deem as suspects, rants everything she has caught them doing ( while knows they are dangerous) and keeps getting bloody poisoned. If Andy were in a horror film she would be the one everyone yells at for doing the exact wrong thing. She is foolish and frustrating. The rest of the characters aren't much better or particularly fleshed out with the exception of Jae who is bearable- although how he stands everyone else is beyond me.
This is not a terrible story it has merit and it plot is unique, I just wish the characters shared a brain between them...

A wonderful read full of all the tropes you love and expect from a dark academia thriller. It was intriguing and suspenseful with plenty of mystery to keep you guessing with the added bonus of demons, gods and magic. The sprinkling of romance was tasteful and didn’t take away from the main purpose of the story which was refreshing!

Just finished reading "All the Devils" by Catelyn Wilson and it did not disappoint. With its dark academia and gothic vibes, this book had me hooked from the very first page. The perfect blend of romance, magic, and deception kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Wilson's writing style is captivating and I devoured this book! A must-read for all lovers of dark academia.

Out Of Context Emojis: 🦌🖼️🕯️🌕🥀🐺🦋

Secret societies, witchcraft, dark academia & investigations into decades of disappearances. All The Devils and it's comparisons to 'Ninth House' & 'Wednesday' were right on the money but there's more to All The Devils than just that and without going into spoilers the additions that Wilson brought to the table are fantastic.

Twists & turns all throughout the book that keep you on your toes. You won't want to stop till Andy has uncovered the truth of what has happened to Violet & learning more about her mysterious companion Jae.

Whilst the story wraps up nicely there's definitely a lead into a sequel and I hope that this'll happen! Expanding on Andy's story and her newfound skills would be awesome.

Thanks to Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House & Netgalley for the chance to read this arc! #AllTheDevils was a top notch read.

I suspect I am going to be an outlier here because I really struggled to get into this book - and if it hadn't been a Netgalley read it would have been a DNF less than two chapters in. Which is a shame because beneath the florid over the top prose (no one ever taught the author that less is more, why use one carefully chosen adjective when five can be squeezed into one sentence?) and the one dimensional chosen one heroine, there's a really interesting story full of mythology which could have been a really fun read.
Andy (Andromeda) enrolls at the school her sister died at, a school that continues to flourish despite Sunnydale type numbers of historic deaths for its female students. But she's not there for the education (a good thing, she barely bothers with classes) but to find out what happened to Violet. Because the body they buried wasn't her sister's (and obviously she didn't mention this to her parents). Her investigation will, of course, lead her to a mystery cult of elite students, to a hot alternative boy and into all kinds of danger.
The problem for me is that by the end of the book I couldn't tell you any more about Andy than I could at the beginning. She has dark ringlets, wears glasses, idolises her sister and... well, that's it. I don't know where she lives, what her relationship with her family is like, who her friends are, her hobbies, her dreams, her aspirations, her taste in music or books or clothes or, well, anything. She's a breathless narrator (first person present, natch, which is part of the problem, how I dislike this as a tense unless the writer is super skilled). I also don't understand why the thing that makes her special is present in her and Violet and not in whichever side of the family passed it down to her and again, that's because there is no backstory.
To me, this is a book in need of an edit. Change the tense, and possibly the narrator, round out the heroine so she is a character and not a plot cipher and this could have been an incredible read. Booktok will no doubt love it, but that doesn't stop this being a missed opportunity because the plot has some real originality and, pruned, the author can write.

This book reminds me why I love dark academia. I devoured this book in a day, it was captivating & mysterious.

I cant believe how many secrets and betrayals there were in this story, I think Andy was an amazing character. She was compassionate, fierce, intuitive piecing the clues together and loyal to a fault. Jae was a heartbreaking character due to how things worked out, I wont give anything away but he’s great!

Thoroughly enjoyed the magic, darkness and deception of this tale!

Over View:
Although the book was full of dark themes and imaginary, I have to say that this story very a very pleasant read. Full of mystery and character growth, I was entertained throughout and felt like this book has set the story up to continue and I'm very excited to see where the characters go and what else this universe has to offer. Would have loved more exploring of the school Andy was sent to as she doesn't really explore the dark setting she's been sent to much. Andy also doesn't make that many new friends, being that she was focused on finding her sister, but I would have enjoyed seeing Andry find her own circle and independence through individual relationships as well. However, this book was a 3-star.

Characters:
Andy, missing her sister, travels to the very school that was the cause of her death to find answers. I found Andry very one-track-minded at the beginning of the book, with not a lot of motivation other than the obvious one of finding out what happened to her sister, Violet. I found her to be rather bland but later realized that she, as a character, was on a journey of self-reliance and confidence. The more she traveled on her journey and turned over the mysteries of the story, she became more a person of action and less of a passenger in her own story.

Spoilers!!
Violet, the missing sister, I did find rather frustrating. Being more antagonistic of a character than I would have thought at the beginning, Violet didn't go through any character development to the end. However, this could be because we didn't know her for most of the story. But even after the events of the book, she didn't really change or learn from any of the actions in the book.

The dark academia book of my dreams!

This book is from an author who is new to me, but as soon as I read the blurb I knew I needed my grabby hands in this, and this book delivered on the delicious gothic, witchy, dark vibes I was so desperately craving!

The story starts off with Andy discovering that the dead body at her sisters funeral is in fact not her sister, which leads Andy to start a journey in identifying what happened to violet. Through this we are taken along with Andy as she enrols herself into the last place where violet was seen alive.

It was truly such an atmospheric read, with the build up of the scenery and depth of characters explored deeply, which led me to relate so intimately with Andy, that I felt her anger, pain, hurt and determination. I was rooting so hard for her (and jae) and with each plot twist I was left shocked, and in the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.

The story and characters had me gripped from start till finish and I was hooked, and with the way it ended I really really hope there’s more to follow! This book is perfect for fans of Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and A Good Girls Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson, and those who recently enjoyed the show Wednesday on Netflix I cannot recommend this book enough and I’ve already got my friends requesting this on netgalley too!

The writing was super easy to grasp, and written in an exquisite manner, with a medium pace that allowed readers to sink their teeth into the plot without feeling overwhelmed/as if there was an information dump.

Thank you so much to netgalley, the publishers, and Catelyn Wilson for my arc in exchange for an honest review!

All the Devils had me absolutely captivated from the beginning. I have a soft spot for dark academia and this book really delivers. Andy and Jae are amazing characters and I hope this is just the beginning of a series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for providing me with an eARC of All The Devils.

I didn’t know what to expect going in to reading this book, but by the end it had really surprised me. I loved it!

Dark academia is one of my favourite genres and with this book’s dark gothic vibes, prestigious Academy setting and mysteries surrounding a secret society, it gave me everything I wanted and more. It felt like Wednesday crossed with Ninth House vibes with a nod to The Secret History thrown in.

I loved the romance element of this book and I thought the mystery surrounding Jae and his character was really well done.

I’d love to read another book in this series and follow Andy and Jae’s story into the Underworld.
