I absolutely devoured this book. I managed to read this book in one day, I just didn’t want to put it down. I was hooked from page one!

As expected, I loved this fast-paced thriller - it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and was filled with twists and turns that were difficult to predict.

Claire Douglas is always a must-read for me and I am looking forward to what she writes next.

Plenty of drama and action. The story keeps you engaged throughout and has enough twists to keep you on your toes. Great summer read!

I really enjoyed the story of this book. Whilst some of it I was able to predict, it did also keep me on my toes. The ending, for me, wasn't too shocking which was a little disappointing as I love a twist at the end. But it was still very well written!

I highly enjoyed it and felt the plot was well written with great twists

An easy read where I didn't see the twist coming at the end. The different chapters are seen through the eyes of the women in the story: Tasha, her sister Alice, their mum Jeanette and Bonnie. The chapters also switch between the past and the present day.

This is a tale of kidnapping murder and deception woven into a small town. The writing is very good, the characters are believable and the events well described by a very good author. Recommended most highly especially if you like a good whodunnit.

I really enjoyed reading this psychological thriller. It’s a page turner that keeps you hooked with all the twists and turns and the surprises all the way through. I read this so quick I couldn’t put it down. The characters were good, the story itself was played out great and had plenty of suspense and the style of writing was perfect. I have read loads of books by this author and have loved them all.. can’t wait for the next book to come out.
I would recommend this book and its author to anyone that likes reading this genre.

I don't think I have read anything previously by this author, so had no idea what to expect.

The story follows Tasha and Alice who are sisters, bonded closely by a childhood tragedy and now adults themselves. Alice is a high flying business woman while Tasha is a mum to twin girls and always feels a bit 'less than'.

Alice offers Tasha and her husband a week away to her apartment in Venice while she and her husband Kyle look after the twins - this is the break Tasha has been looking for and hopes to rest and reset while they are away. However, just a couple of days in strange happenings in both places result in Kyle dead, Alice injured and Tasha afraid for her whole family.

There are so many twists and turns with this, with a few red herrings thrown in to keep you guessing and the story ticking along. When I did eventually see the end coming it was right at the last minute and instead of tying up all the ends neatly it left a rather unsettled chill.

A brilliant read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking out for more books by Claire!

A real page turner! So many twists, I had no idea who to believe. Twin sisters, living very different lives with a complex relationship - great read, I highly recommend.

Sisters swap houses whilst agreeing to look after their twins to give her a break. A terrible tragedy happens and twists keep you turning the pages and wondering what will be the eventual outcome. I really enjoyed this one.

Sisters Alice and Tasha look so alike they could be twins and this was their downfall in this very readable thriller. Outwardly, older sister Alice is the wealthy and successful one, so when she offers her apartment in Venice to Tasha and her husband for a well earned break together, they jump at the opportunity. Of course, things don’t go to plan and the story becomes more and more entangled, with murder and mistaken identity. It was occasionally a little difficult to work out who was doing what, but the book was gripping to the end, well written and effectively characterised.

"What a tangked web we weave" This was a very complex story with several different threads running through. It was an edge of the seat story towards the end but the dilemma still existed. Great story!

Another great page-turner from Claire Douglas! Tasha is trying to put some zest back into her life now her twins are at nursery, but can she ever live up to older sister Alice's achievements? She's not even sure she wants to, although she is slightly envious. Neither of the sisters has ever quite forgotten their baby sister Holly, despite her only being in their lives for four months. Their mother, trying to outrun grief, has run away to France, but then Alice and Tasha's world comes crashing down and it seems missing Holly might be to blame. This is a story of the lengths we go to protect family, and the lies we tell to keep our secrets close. The twist was neatly done, and llinked the threadds together very well. A great read.

Such a brilliant book. So clever and full of so many twists. You never know who to believe but I love that!

Tasha's life with her childhood sweetheart is comfortable, familiar, and occasionally she wonders about how it might be different...
Her big sister Alice and equally high-flying husband offer her a break in the holiday home they have in Venice, and offer to move into Tasha's home to look after the kids.
Alice's and Tasha's mother Janette is trying to build a new life in France, mourning the old loss of another child, and the more recent one of her beloved husband.
Over the course of a couple of days everything changes in ways almost none of them could expect.

There are plenty of twists and turns but I found this was all at the expense of any consistency in the characters, or much understanding of the forensics. For me to have believed in the two central secrets on which the plot hinges I would have had to be much more invested in the characters and what they have to protect. And for me the villain was so obvious from early on that they might have well worn a cape and a false moustache. Not for me, no matter how many twists.

I am a bit up and down about this book. A strong start, action, mystery and unresolved crimes now and in the past. It is told from different viewpoints which works well. I thought the book was a little overlong, perhaps too much irrelevant description in places and not all loose ends are tied up. Another criticism for me was that some parts just stretched the bounds of credibility too much. 3 year old twins, haven't seen their aunt and uncle for months and do not protest to being left with these "strangers" ? The events/house in Venice are also left in the air .
The characterizations are well doen though and the events do make an interesting plot .

Tasha and her older sister Alice, live very different lives. Alice is a successful Biochemist with a husband and large London house, while Tasha is married to her childhood sweetheart, living in the village they grew up in with 4 year old twin daughters. She is worried her marriage is stalling so when Alice suggests a week away at her Rome apartment, while she looks after the children she jumps at the chance.
As they’re preparing to leave Tasha is starting to worry about leaving the children for the 1st time but is looking forward to reconnecting with her husband.
They arrive in Rome and soon settle in. Spending evenings out. She fully embraces Alice lifestyle wearing her clothes and living the life. Until they are followed home and threatened with a knife.

The next morning they get a call from home Kyle and Alice, we’re attacked in their home. Kyle is dead, Alice is in hospital but the twins are safe. They quickly rush home.

Alice then finds a note saying’ it should have been you’ was she the intended target and why?

Throughout this we learn that over 30 years ago Alice and Tashas baby sister Holly was abducted from the village. And blood found at the scene is linked to familial DNA. Could Holly have had something to do with the attack and if so why?


This was quite and interesting storyline with a few twists. I found myself hooked and wanted to keep reading to find the conclusion.

Alice and Aaron haven’t been away together since the twins were born, so when Alice’s sister offers them her apartment in Venice for the weekend while she and her husband look after the twins Alice jumps at the chance. While away a terrible tradgedy happens and Alice returns to find her sister in hospital and brother in law dead. A good thriller which will keep you guessing until the very end.
