An incredibly well researched book. I felt that I knew a lot more about Hong Kong by the time I had finished.. Insights into the social hierarchy amongst the ultra wealthy and powerful Hongkongers, as well as the more transient expat community were amazing. Wealth, influence, corruption, blackmail, female friendship, vanity all played their part in this fast paced intriguing whodunit. lots of twists and turns keep you guessing until the very end

There was something quite addictive about this book. It was long, but I wanted to keep reading.
Martina was almost obsessed with Veronica, wanting her life and fame. They both played into each others hands, in a weird, deceitful kind of way.
I expected the twist but it still made it interesting and I was intrigued as to how it would end.
The characters were likeable, but I also despised their arrogance too.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

This was a rollercoaster! I loved the couple of plot twists that we discover as we unravel Veronica and Martina's intertwined stories. It took me a while to read the first part, and I think it was partly due to the writing style, but once over (and you understand why it's written that way as well once that part finishes!) I finished the book in a couple of days. Loved the Hong Kong setting and it Kristina Perez brings up quite a few important questions regarding post-colonialism, racism and class.

Initially I was intrigued by the concept of this book and I started off enthusiastic and hooked. I liked the aspect of the book being set in Hong Kong and Perez does a good job of describing the landscape, atmosphere and people. It was interesting to read about the different culture and follow Martina as she navigates her way in Hong Kong.
This started to go off track for me when Perez started jumping all over the place with anecdotes from the characters past. I think the intention was to flesh out the characters and provide them with a background however I did not feel they added anything and it was confusing to suddenly jump to a different time and start talking about people not relevant to the story.
At the centre of this book is the mystery of what happened to Veronica Hawkins and this was an interesting element and Perez certainly provides different twists. However, for me this book is far too long and any adrenaline and excitement the plot carried was lost in the sheer volume of unnecessary words and pages. If this was stripped back a bit then I think this could have been a terrific read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for an advance copy.

This book kept me hooked especially with the amount of secrets and lies you're not sure who to trust. Definitely recommended.
