This is the latest book in the Author's long running Detective Josie Quinn series and can in my opinion be read as a standalone

Josie's PTSD has reached such a stage that it is impacting both her work and home life - from her traumatic childhood , the horrors seen on the job and lately the death of a colleague - she knows she needs help .
Help that she hope will come from attending a specialist PTSD course run by a top notch specialist , held in a remote area without access to modern technology .
This sets the scene to the interactions between the various attendees , whose criteria for attending is severe trauma . But is everyone who attends who the say they are , do the have a hidden agenda ?
With the oncoming snow storm preventing them from leaving nerves amongst the group begin to show ......... now one of the group is found dead , murdered - why was she killed ? They have no way out , no help from the outside is forthcoming and it takes all of Josie's skills and instincts to find the killer and keep the group and herself safe .

This book is a intense read from start to finish , fast paced , full of twists and turns - who is trustworthy , who is not , who has a hidden agenda ....... who is the killer ??

This is the best book yet in the series - I was pleased that PTSD was shown to be a complex condition , one not easily labelled and treated with respect .
I look forward to reading more Josie Quinn books in the future ........... there is much more to come from Josie , her husband Noah and her team at work .

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Alright, buckle up, because “Face Her Fear” by Lisa Regan takes you on a wild ride through the snowy mountains with Detective Josie Quinn. So, picture this: Josie, still reeling from some serious team trauma and marital discord, heads to a remote trauma retreat. But, surprise, surprise, peace and quiet aren’t on the menu.

We’re talking secrets darker than a mystery novel, a storm that could rival your worst nightmares, and Meg Cleary disappearing faster than your last scoop of ice cream. Spoiler alert: it’s not a spa day.

Things get real when Josie finds Meg’s lifeless self in the snow, and it’s not just a case of bad luck. Nope, we’re diving headfirst into a murder mystery, and Josie’s solo on this one – no team, no phone signal, nada. Just her, the snow, and a bunch of potential killers.

Oh, did I mention the hidden cameras? Yeah, someone’s been playing Big Brother in the retreat. Cue Josie’s paranoia hitting the roof. Another attendee vanishes, food’s running out, and it’s basically survival mode. Josie’s got to channel her inner Sherlock and unmask the killer before it’s game over for everyone.

Lisa Regan weaves a suspenseful tale that’s part whodunit, part survival thriller, and a dash of Josie Quinn’s signature badassery. It’s like Criminal Minds met Survivor in the snowy wilderness. So, if you’re into heart-pounding suspense, a touch of winter chill, and a detective who won’t back down, “Face Her Fear” needs to be on your reading list, ASAP. Trust me, you won’t be putting this one down until you know who’s behind the chilling mayhem. And, if you’re like me, you’ll never piece it together.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Josie is at a retreat in a remote area in the mountains, seeking healing from the trauma she has suffered in her life. She has regrets that she was not on good terms with Noah before she left.
Another person on the retreat is found dead, and, while it looks like she died of hyperthermia, Josie spots signs that the woman was murdered. The murderer must be one of the other patients.
They are snowed in, and there is sporadic telephone signal.
Josie has to solve this murder herself.

I just could not wait to read this!! Despite having 6-8 books on my TBR, I abandoned all for a long awaited Josie Quinn book!
I love Josie Quinn, and have followed her journey from book 1.
She is my hero. She has overcome so much, and has so much empathy. She is a top detective, clear thinking and methodical.

This I read in 2 sittings, I mean, I had to sleep, as I started the book late in the evening!

Taut, gripping, disturbing and addictive. Definitely one of my favourite Police procedural series! Roll on Book 20!! I can't wait!

Highly recommended for fans of good investigators.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!

Tense and gripping, an addictive take on the "closed group" trope that twists and turns until the very end. Isolated in a blizzard when the disappearances start and lies start to unfold. Secrets everywhere, no one and nothing is as it seems. And yea, watch out for that bear too.

Absolutely outstanding! I loved how this one was so different yet so Josie. I love how we get to see into her heart more as well. She has had a road, and she still struggles and yet her strength and smarts are epic.

This series evolution is so good. The ups as well as the downs. And Josie may not quite see it but we do…Noah…sigh.

Josie has had a tough time but luckily she’s tougher! This gives us a glimpse of Josie that she tries to hide. It also has her facing a lot…alone. I can’t wait to see what is coming for Josie. Because she will find a way to deal with it all.

I didn't know what to expect when I opened Face Her Fear other than a great read from a master storyteller. Within the first few pages, it was clear that I was in for the ride of my life, and I wasn't wrong. Face Her Fear is about a retreat Josie goes on to help deal with her complex PTSD after the deaths of her grandmother and colleague. Alone without her team or her tech for a whole week on top of a mountain is rather anxiety-producing for a control freak like Josie Quinn, and if that weren't enough, a blizzard was headed their way. Josie isn't deterred and stays on the mountain with the other five retreat members and their therapist.

Then things take a turn. Josie discovers one of the other five members dead in the snow and knows immediately that Meg didn't die of hyperthermia. She'd been killed, and there were only a limited number of people who could have done it. It only took her a moment to realize she was sleeping amid the murderer.

Face Her Fear is a 'locked room' mystery that shows Lisa's ability to keep a police procedural going even when there is only one detective locked in the same space as the murderer. Josie knows the law, and even faced with the difficult circumstances she was in, she wasn't willing to back down on her dedication to getting the victim justice.

Locked room mysteries are a thing of the past, in my opinion, but Lisa said, not so fast! She took an old, dated, stale trope and brought it into the 21st century. While Josie struggled with changes at home and changes within herself and her relationships, she was forced into a situation where she had to pick friend from foe and figure out, with very little help, who was behind the murder and why. Her friends back in Denton are there to support her, but they can't save her, and Josie has to learn to lean into her gut again for the first time since the early days of her career as 'the boss.' Her internal conversations with Mett were personal, heartbreaking, touching, and yet brilliantly done in this setting.

If you have been with Josie since book one, you will love seeing glimpses of the woman who first grabbed our hearts and minds as she chased the kidnapper and killer of young girls. You'll feel her emotions as she tries to grasp all of the trauma she's been through and root for her as she works to realize while it happened TO her, she didn't make it happen. This locked room mystery helps our favorite detective see that she can trust her instincts AND the people who have left her in the physical realm. They may be gone, but the lessons they left her with will serve her well each and every day once she accepts the pain that comes with acceptance. Josie more than faces her fears in book 19 and comes out of that 'room' with a new friend she wants to get to know. Herself.

Face Her Fears earns another five stars from this Lisa Regan fan for not just a well-told police procedural but for the glimpse into the human who makes these characters come alive on the page for us with every adventure Josie takes.
