I loved the storyline of this one and the main characters were so easy to fall in love with.

Delphie is such a wonderful character and there was so many laugh out loud moments for me throughout this book. The magical realism element added an extra special layer to this book and I enjoyed her attempts to get the kiss she needs. I adored her care for Mr Yoon, it was such a perfect part of the story and before you know it this book wraps you up in the blanket of community and a sense of belonging.

The romance was good and I loved the development of the attraction between the two main characters. I was rooting for them from the beginning and I just thought this was a lovely read. It is a wonderful book which captured my heart.

I loved the concept of this story and I thought the writing was fantastic!
I get why this author is popular.

Sadly this story didn’t do it for me. The main character I felt very irritating and annoying! And the ending fell flat for me also.

If you are a romance girly then this story will be for you and I bet you will love it!!

I would read another book by this author because I love giving second chances.

Thank you to Netgalley for my arc copy!
Book is out 20th of June.

REVIEW
cw: bullying, mentions of divorce and parental abandonment, bereavement, death, isolation
When twenty-seven-year-old loner Delphie Bookham suddenly finds herself in The Afterlife, she meets the most handsome man she's ever seen. And he actually seems interested in her. But before they can get properly acquainted, he's returned to life. Merritt, her romance-obsessed Afterlife Therapist gives Delphie the opportunity to find him. If she can get him to kiss her freely, she too can live. The catch? She only knows him as Jonah T. The catch? She only has ten days to find her soulmate.

Kirsty Greenwood is one of my favourite storytellers for a reason, and she has excelled once again. What an absolutely gorgeous delight of a book. It made me laugh and cry so many times. Delphie was such a complex character, and I loved her development. I won't spoil the plot, but she was so relatable and my heart broke for her as we began to learn more about her life growing up, as well as her self-imposed isolation. I loved how she began to flourish as the story progressed, particularly through the encounters she made along the way. I cried laughing at Delphie's poetry recital, and her 'caramel slice'. Her soul mate story made me swoon so many times and I loved her emotional openness at the end.
But this book was more than just a romance. The themes of loneliness, loss, and isolation were explored sensitively through so many of the characters. As always, the author created the most amazing, quirky supporting characters. Merritt, Delphie's Afterlife therapist, was hilarious. I loved all of her romance novel references, and I think I spotted an Easter egg that made me squeal. I also loved all of her innovative ways of keeping in touch with Delphie. I adored Delphie's friendship with Mr Yoon. It was so heartwarming but often amusing. He was such a sweetheart. And his party? That wrecked me in the best possible way. Aled, the enthusiastic librarian was a whole mood, and I adored how he helped Mr Yoon. I adored Cooper, Delphie's grumpy downstairs neighbour. His sarcastic reposts made me giggle and I loved their friendship as they began to learn more about each other. Their 'heist' was a particular high point, and I cackled laughing at Special Agent Balthazar. I LOVED how that chapter ended. Jonah was a sweetheart and an all-round good guy. Their encounters were both hilarious and poignant. I also loved Frida, who was such a fun character, and I loved the development of Delphie's friendship with her colleagues.
Even though I guessed a few of the twists, that only made me more excited to see how everything worked out and made me root for all of the characters even more. This story was a reminder that everyone around us has a story of their own, and if we shut ourselves off, we miss so much (and there I go, crying again!)
A great big, positive hug of a book.

4.5 stars. This book was uplifting and funny and eccentric...and I loved it. This is my kind of magic realism - the fantastical clashing right into the normal, with a wry chuckle. Having your main character die from eating a microwave burger at the beginning of the story gives you a glimpse into what you're going to get. Delphie is lonely without really realising/accepting it, she lives a solitary life and avoids interacting with people. She has her reasons for this and they're understandable. Then she eats the fated burger and meets her afterlife therapist who she makes a deal with that changes everything.
This really reminded me of The Good Place, in the way it depicted the afterlife - showing the admin of it, if you will. I felt that the writing conjured up that same saturated landscape too, everything was bright primary colours with just a hint of kitsch. It was bonkers and brilliant.
The 'rom' part of this romcom was utterly endearing, I don't want to say too much about it as I don't want to give any spoilers, but you will be rooting for a happy ending.
As the book progresses, Delphie picks up a ragtag bunch of new friends who are all just a little left of centre for varying reasons. They're just brilliant though, and made me laugh out loud on many occasions. She makes genuine connections as she's on her quest and they stud the book with heartfelt situations that are a great complement to the amazing humour.

DNF. If my entrance person into heaven talked as much as this one, I'd want to die all over again just to get away from her. The concept is interesting, but the execution is meh. It's like the women's fiction authors have discovered the 'what is life in heaven like' trope and decided to write a bunch of books about it because I definitely feel like I've read something eerily similar to this before.

I have never read anything by this author before but I will be looking for others. It was fun, light hearted, romantic, and I was so hooked from the first page that I read it in a day.

Delphine was an introvert, and that’s how she liked it. Other people invariably let her down and left her with heartache, so apart from an elderly neighbour who she took breakfast to every day, she kept herself to herself. One night, when she was eating a microwave burger, and unfortunately not looking her best, she choked on a piece of burger and ended up in the afterlife – which looked remarkably like a launderette! She is just getting used to the idea of being dead, but bemoaning her attire, when a gorgeous stranger turns up and they have a ‘moment’ before he is whisked back as he was not actually dead just under anaesthetic. Delphine is desperate to meet the handsome stranger, who she only knows as Jonah again, and to look after her elderly neighbour, and is desperate to go back to earth. Her guide offers her a deal . If she can find Jonah within 10 days, and get him to kiss her, she can stay on earth. With the help of her curmudgeonly neighbour Cooper, she has 10 days to track down Jonah and kiss him – and he has no recollection of meeting her.
The book is funny, touching, and I couldn’t put it down. A wonderful holiday story.

This book takes an interesting premise - Delphie dies, alone and rather embarrassingly, and is then sent back with a limited window to find her potential soulmate - and almost nails it. There's a lot to like: a varied and interesting set of characters, an unexpected romance with a twist, personal growth and plenty of humour. However for me the pacing lagged in the middle when Delphie's search went through a series of cringeworthy events, and it took me a while to warm to her (and I didn't really warm to Merritt at all). However this is still an engaging rom-com with emotional depth, and well worth a read.

thank you so much to netgalley and publishers for this e-arc in exchange for a review!

WOW, i absolutely loved this one! this had my attention from page one and i sat and read this book in a total of 5 hours give or take! i loved delphie and her journey to avoid her second death that was overhanging over her. i truly connected with her character and felt all the emotions for her whilst on her self discovery journey that she didn't even know she was on. the way it started with delphies only friend being her non verbal elderly neighbour - who may i add was one of my favourite characters - to a whole street full of friends.

when delphie thinks finding her soulmate is going to be the thing that saves her, she is met with the realisation that it wasn't the soulmate that mattered overall. the ending had me shedding some happy tears!!

This book has a very interesting premise and really picked up in the last third. I did find, however, that the dialogue was rather unrealistic and childish within the context of the story and I struggled to like the main character for a long while.
Overall an interesting read with some real highlights, I just feel the interactions between characters often felt forced and immature.

I found this to be a lovely quirky story of true live that may or may not be real and a quest to find the man of Delphine's dreams in 10 days.
I enjoyed reading this story

I rated this book 3 stars, but this shouldn't be taken as an accurate review because I didn't finish it. I really wanted to love this book but couldn't get into it

The Love of My Afterlife has a heroine who wakes up in the waiting room for the afterlife only to run into the most handsome man she’s ever met - and he seems to be into her. Then whoosh - he’s gone again and Delphie is offered a ten day return to earth to try and get him to fall in love with her and win a second chance at life. I used to review (occasionally) for Kirsty’s old site Novelicious about a decade ago, and she has always written romantic novels that are also very funny and this is no exception to that. For me it has too much cringe-humour - but my tolerance for that is always quite low - that's why I had to stop reading the shopaholic series (after about the third book and so clearly i was in the minority there) - so I know that other people are going to absolutely love this. The romance is wonderful, the last 15/20 percent was a delight and I think it would make a great book to read on a sun lounger this summer.

If I could give this 6 stars I would. I absolutely loved this book. The story, characters and feelings you get are wonderful
We meet Delphie who is surviving day to day, just about getting through life, she chokes on a piece of burger and is flung into a different place. I really don’t want to say too much as you have to read it yourself but this book really meant something to me.
I’ll definitely be looking out for this author in future. 100% recommend!

This is honestly one of the best books that I have read in years.
Seeing Delphie fully embrace her fleeting opportunity to save her life by living it was such an enjoyable experience.
I could not get enough of this story and I was hooked from the very beginning.
I loved Cooper and all of the friends that come into Delphie's life and seeing her grow throughout the course of this.
It doesn't go down the route that you might think it would when reading the blurb, which I really appreciated.
I have to say, I really saw myself in Delphie and the life that she was previously living. I too have made my life small to stop myself from being hurt but this really changed my perspective on just existing compared to truly living.
I also loved all the romance book and pop culture references from Merritt and the way in which she played a hand in having some of my favourite tropes be included in Delphie's story. From enemies to lovers and there only being one bed to fake dating and taming a womaniser, every trope was handled so perfectly.
I also loved the library representation and the gala heist. But what a twist the ending was too. I seriously did not expect anything that happened after she and Cooper rushed off to try and find Jonah with there only being an hour to go before she needed him to kiss her.
My stomach quite literally dropped when I realised what was happening but it was a welcome surprise and ended the story on a real high.
I will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen for the foreseeable and I can't wait to see what Kirsty Greenwood does next.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely a mashing of The Good Place and a drop Dead Gorgeous with the best feel good feelings of both! Would definitely recommend this to fans of either of those shows and fans of general cozy, romances.

This book is utterly bonkers and an absolute joy. Such a fun read, a gorgeous enemies-to-lovers romance with gloriously funny lines and masses of heart.
When the reclusive Delphie dies she is given a second chance to live, on the proviso that she can locate the hunky Jonah somewhere in London and get him to kiss her. But she hasn’t anticipated complications in the form of her grumpy but handsome neighbour Cooper, whom she enlists to help. Cue many madcap escapades and a sparkling, steamy story that made me want to start reading the book all over again as soon as I’d finished, to prolong the enjoyment. I loved Delphie and the lessons in life she learns when she finds out time is short. There’s a cast of lovable side characters, too. Such fun - read this, it’ll leave you with a huge smile and hope in your heart.

TW; trauma from bullying, death, loss from sibling death
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy to review. All thoughts are my own.

The Love of My Afterlife is a story more about self-development than the fact that the main character dies at the start. Sure, Delphie is definitely under a time crunch to secure her alive status again through the willing kiss from her soulmate, but the real gem of this story is about her coming alive again in other ways. Her childhood trauma has led to Delphie barely living in the present, with every day having the same bleak outlook. When she dies, she has to step out of the bubble she has placed herself in. The changes to her surrounding people leading to a loving found family, and romantic interests gained allow Delphie to reinvent herself, to try to be more than she was before she died. I liked the way the author infused this story with the hope of never being too old to find your people and your wins to live life to the fullest and I was satisfied enough with the growth Delphie's character went through in this novel.

That being said, I really disliked Delphie for the majority of the book. Whilst some of her behaviour made sense from the crippling pain of being abandoned by those who she adored when younger, she treated everyone, aside from Mr Yoon, so poorly that I couldn't relate to her. Couple this with really outlandish situations she's put through during her fight to stay alive, and I just never fully grew invested in her tale. British humour is never a favourite of mine to read, so some of my dislike for this book can be placed down to personal preference. The over the top dramatics and excessive waffling of characters (especially from Merritt) did no favours either.

Admittedly, I did like the predictable twist with the love interest, but I never believed in their romance, and mostly that was down to the way Delphie treated him. It felt like it built up well at some points, only to be overshadowed by something dramatic, which threw off any progression for me. I also found the ending very much like a tidy red ribbon around the package, and far too convenient which diminished some of my enjoyment.

I think I wasn't the right reader to truly appreciate this tale, but many others who enjoy a cast full of quirky characters and hilarity-infused situations romances will like this one.

It was okay! I just wasn't the reader it needed.

I was super hopeful that with the premise of the story that I would love it but it just didn't hit the spot I wanted it to. Whilst it flowed well and the writing was good, the plot points and the pacing of the story just didn't appeal to me. The story, for me, switched between slow and fast at different points and I would have preferred more consistency so certain parts didn't feel like it was lagging.

This was absolutely delightful! I have yet to read a book by Kirsty Greenwood that I didn’t enjoy.

Likeable quirky characters, this is a story with humour and lots of heart.
