This was super cute and instantly ‘unputdownable’. Gorgeous characters and very clever, with a little twist at the end. The perfect escape and a wonderful beachy holiday read for when you don’t want something you have to take seriously.

I thought this may be a little cheesy or predictable but it was neither of those things! I was invested in Delphie and her search for her happy ever after. The pace is just right and the secondary characters are all entertaining and amusing. A fresh, fun and clever book with a great twist. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The Love of My Afterlife is a sweet, joy-filled rom com that is immensely readable. Full of the feel-good factor, we follow Delphie as she is given respite from being dead to find her soulmate Jonah and make him kiss her within 10 days. During that 10 days, she discovers the joys of being alive and connections with people she met everyday but never took the trouble to get to know. This book is perfect if you want a light-hearted easy read that will make you smile.

Definitely outside my usual genre of books but thoroughly enjoyed this book. Full of romantic tropes. Full of twists and turns to keep the reader interested but funnily predictable as well. It’s been a long time since a laughed along with a book but this one succeeded. I will be looking out for this author releasing more titles in the future and you should too!

I’d like to thank Kirsty Greenwood, Penguin books and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in return for an honest review.

i have never read another book like this. it's a sci-fi (but not too much to be overbearing), a magical realism (with enough supernatural elements to give me an existential crisis at 3 am, a fantasy that's technically not a fantasy, and coming of age/death (?) with a romance sideplot.

plot: delphie is dead. after choking to death on a microwaveable burger whilst wearing her ‘shine like a star’ nightie, delphie runs into the most handsome guy she has ever met, a man she is convinced is 'the one', but when the handsome stranger is sent back down to earth, she is offered a deal to return back to earth: if in ten days he kisses her, she can stay alive,

knowing anything else would really ruin the surprise of the book.

tropes:

- fake dating
- love triangle
- found family
- one bed
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity

thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for my honest thoughts!

I'm not usually one for romance stories, but was recommended this by a fellow netgalley reader and I loved it! The characters were well written. The race against time and the friendships! Wow

A really emotional, yet gripping, rom com. I laughed out loud, a lot. I really enjoyed it, this was right up my street, ticking all the boxes with the characters, getting Delphie to come out of her solitary ways. I'm so glad that it went the way that it did. Loved every second.

This is a sweet romcom read with some good twists. It did take me a while to get into it and I thought I had the plot all sussed out but the ending surprised me with a really good twist. I liked the way the characters developed and loved the way Delphie found her family, even if they were a bit unconventional

The characters were quirky characters and a really good mix, They came alive on the page and I enjoyed seeing how they became involved in Delphie's life...or is that death?!

This story is an easy read but one that you won't want to put down before you find out what will happen.

Everybody needs to read this. It's brilliant, funny, beautifully written, smart, with characters you'll fall in love with.
Newly dead, Delphie, meets the man of her dreams in the afterlife waiting room and is given 10 days back on earth to make him fall in love with her.
Out in June but you can preorder now and I highly recommend that you do.

"Ten days back on earth to find Jonah."

It was okay! I just wasn't the reader it needed.

I was super hopeful that with the premise of the story that I would love it but it just didn't hit the spot I wanted it to. Whilst it flowed well and the writing was good, the plot points and the pacing of the story just didn't appeal to me. The story, for me, switched between slow and fast at different points and I would have preferred more consistency so certain parts didn't feel like it was lagging.

I wasn't a major fan of the main female character and I feel that her character was too much? I understood the background of the character but her actions and behaviour just couldn't be justified to me, I'm not sure if this is because, as readers, we only got such short snippets of the information that formed the main lead without any resolution.

I really enjoyed the side characters, I think more personality was brought out through them. As the story progressed I think the main female lead developed more but things just didn't hit the mark for me. Some scenes were really fun and the dialogue sometimes brought out the humour and lightness of characters but I think they were lost in other scenes.

Overall I liked the premise and the plot, I just wanted something more, something extra that gave the characters and story that oomph.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK for this eARC, I am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a book! I didn’t put this book down. Fantastically written romcom. I was extremely impatient to find out what happened at the end, and most definitely didn’t expect the twist. Loved it from start to finish

A heart-warming, deliciously enjoyable romcom with a speculative twist.

I found this incredibly random and peculiar in a refreshingly fun way 😅 The chemistry between the MCs was brilliant and I didn't see the final twist coming at all. I was speeding through at the 80% mark desperate to find out what happens.

The humour is very light and there are tons of pop culture references. Can see this being big, especially due to the fab concept.

Quick shout out for Mr Yoon.

Look forward to chatting to friends about this one 🤩

Firstly, thank you so much to Netgalley & Random House UK for letting me read this book in exchange for honest feedback.

We're all guilty of letting our lives pass us by without fully living & embracing them and Delphie does the same, until she gets a huge (& pretty abrupt!) wake up call.

The characters you meet are all lovable with their own backstory. It's not your traditional romcom - it's really refreshing and such a pleasure to read.

I'm rating The Love of My Afterlife 5 stars because I absolutely LOVED this book - it's definitely one of my new favourites! It made me laugh, cry & just feel overall lighter. I can't recommend it enough & I'll be looking for more of Kirsty's books in future.

Oh, what a brilliant book!
I wouldn't have put it down if I had an empty day because I loved every minute of this story.
Delphie, our unfortunate heroine (I say unfortunate because of the situation she finds herself in), begins the story tragically by dying on us readers, literally within the first few paragraphs!
The story follows her attempt to get her life back after being set an interesting, and maybe impossible, challenge by her afterlife coach.
You see, she meets her soulmate in the corridors of the afterlife before he is somehow snatched from her. She is given an opportunity to live again if she can find this man back in the alive world within ten days and she can get him to kiss her.
I shall not tell you about the story. What kind of review would it be, if I just added all manner of spoilers, but what I will say is that this is a proper romcom! I laughed, cried, and awwed many times!
The supporting cast of characters is brilliant, too, with Mr Yoon, Dephie's non-verbal neighbour, Cooper, the neighbour she never thought she'd want to know, and her colleagues at the pharmacy where she works.
How she accomplishes her task is a bit mad, and all without telling anyone exactly what she is doing and why, because, let's face it, who's going to believe a woman who says she's come back from the dead and just needs a kiss to stay alive?
Such a fun read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK for an ARC.

Requested this rom-com on a whim and I'm glad I did! It has a fun concept – girl who has very much shut herself off from life dies unexpectedly, meets someone she thinks is her soulmate in the afterlife, is sent back to earth to try and reunite with him (or else). I read it on a Megabus from Glasgow to Manchester and it was the perfect travel read – fun and idiosyncratic and heartwarming, even though that descriptor normally makes me go running. It was also interesting reading a book set in a part of London (Bayswater and Paddington) that I know pretty much nothing about, and hardly ever see as a setting in contemporary novels. V much commercial rom-com but I enjoyed! ✨

I read this in a day, couldn't put it down.
I don't want to give any spoilers by mentioning names but gaaah what a couple. I absolutely adored all the other characters too. I laughed so much reading this and just had the biggest smile on my face, filled with warmth, throughout. This would make an absolutely brilliant film, it's giving me The Good Place meets the Hating Game!

Delphie has been set a challenge - find her true love and ensure he falls for her…. Or her life will actually be over!

The novel starts out with one of the best death scenes I’ve ever read which sets the tone for the rest of the novel, funny and self-aware. I think the author really got the tone right throughout the book and I just loved it. The idea was really original and I’ve already recommended it to friends. A good twist on the romcom genre and, even better, genuinely funny. I may even read this one again!

Firstly I should probably say “rom com’s” are not my usual go-to genre. However I liked the premise of the book and thought I would get out of my comfort zone. Sadly the more I got into the story it just reaffirmed how this genre is not for me. I could not get over the cliches. I found the characters boring. The forced situations that Delphie found herself in in her hunt for Jonah were toe curlingly cringe and at 50% in I couldn’t go any further.
I have read plenty of really positive reviews for this book and I am sure it will do well.

I thought this was the first book I'd read by this author, but was surprised to find I have read another one many years ago (I really need to go back and re-read it!). I read the blurb on this one and saw the cover and knew it would be something I would love...and I was right! We meet Delphie who's died and has entered the afterlife, which strangely enough looks just like a launderette! Whilst there she meets Jonah, a complete stranger, who is the most handsome man she's ever seen and most definitely her soulmate. Sadly though, he shouldn't be there yet and gets sent back to Earth before she can find out anything else about him. Delphie is however given a deal - she gets sent back to the living and if she can get Jonah to kiss her within 10 days, then she gets to stay, if not she returns to the afterlife for all eternity!

This was such a brilliant read!! I absolutely loved it and couldn't put it down once I'd started. I loved Delphie's character but did really feel sorry for her with her friendless and loveless life! Her story flits through the 10 days where she tries to find Jonah with the help of her strange neighbour Cooper and she finds herself jogging through the park, at a nude art class and podium dancing to name but a few in her quest to find him. I laughed my way through most of this, but there were the odd moments where it became quite sad and emotional, especially as the story moves on.

I have to admit I didn't think it would be as fun a read as it was, I initially thought I would end up crying throughout it! But it's a lovely, warm-hearted, entertaining story with lovable characters which you fall in love with. Absolutely wonderful! Would definitely recommend!
