Coming out of a reading slump this book was everything I needed. If I wasn't already sold by 'contemporary fiction, with a side of fantasy, and romance', the witty writing got me HOOKED. I laughed, I cried, I blushed... who could want more. The short chapters, and constant twists to the plot, made this a fast read that was difficult to put down. Did I figure out some of the twists before they happened? Well... yes, but that didn't stop me from wanting to read more. Delphie was such a fun and interesting character, who was easy to relate to, and I was rooting for her the whole time. This book is not to be taken seriously, but if you're in the mood for a fun read then this is a book for you.

A brilliant romcon full of humour.
Delphi is a loner living on her own in London when she dies eating a burger, in the afterlife waiting room she meets the man of her dreams Jonah but he is sent back to earth, the angel is a romantic so she sends Delphi back as well to get Jonah to kiss her within 10 days then she can stay on earth, but she does not know his surname.
Cooper her neighbour begrudgingly starts to help her and the couple start to get closer.
Loved the characters and was so funny.
Only bit I didn`t like was when someone is in a coma for weeks they are not discharged the day they wake up so only gave 4x.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and I give my honest review.

If you are in the market for a laugh out loud (in places) easy romance then this is the book for you.

It starts with Delphie, reclusive, quiet, introverted, choking on a microwave burger and dying. From there on in you have to leave any preconceived ideas of death/afterlife at the door. Delphie is given 10 days to find her “soulmate” Jonah and get him to kiss her spontaneously otherwise she will “die” again but permanently.

Delphie sets out on her mission after checking on her mute elderly neighbour Mr Yoon which leads her to realise that Mr Yoon has no one else and she needs to put other things/carers/helpers in place for him in the event that she does not find Jonah. Delphie soon enlists the help of her incredibly grumpy downstairs neighbour Cooper who will help providing she helps him as well.

The book is full of fun, smouldering embers of romance and lovely tales of friendship. A thoroughly lovely read

This is like the excitement and pain we feel with Little Mermaid when she only has three days to find her man and get the kiss. We are on a fast paced journey to find her man and only have ten days. You can feel as the fear starts to grow, with each moment passing that he has not been found. She does not want to be dead again. Then things start to change. It's really exciting and throughout the author gives us these nuggets of joy and comedy. It is a crazy, slightly tongue in cheek read and you cannot help but completely falling love. I absolutely loved this book and will be reading all of the author's future work.

I have to admit I didn't quite click with this book. It's a lovely story and well written. Just did not pull my heartstrings.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I was invested in this book as soon as I got to the part where the main character died from choking on a hamburger, however luckily she gets her second chance at life. This story is your usual cheesy and funny rom com with the slight twist to the story. I devoured this book within a day and didn't even realise how long I had been sat reading for until I got to the last page.

Highly recommend to anyone who loves cheesy rom com novels.

The Love of My Afterlife
By Kirsty Greenwood

5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘If she wasn’t dead already, Delphie would be dying of embarrassment. She’s entered the afterlife wearing the sort of pyjamas you don’t want anyone to see and finds herself face-to-face with the most handsome man she’s ever encountered. And he’s smiling at her. As they start to chat, everything else becomes background noise – until someone comes running out of a door, yelling something about a huge mistake, and sends the dreamy stranger back down to earth. In a twist of fate, Delphie is offered a deal in which she can return to her previous life and reconnect with the mysterious man she’s sure is her soulmate. The challenge? She only has ten days to find him. Ten days to make him fall for her.Oh, and he has no recollection of them ever having met…’

Things I loved about this book:
* I’m quite new to romance books so I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would! I think I have found my new favourite trope in enemies to lovers!
* Merritt the 28 year old Afterlife Therapist is my spirit animal! “My absolute favourite things are curry and romance novels, the hotter the better on both accounts” - Me too Merritt, me too!!
* I was giggling from the very beginning but this book also had me CRYING, SCREAMING, THROWING UP. It was just perfection!
* Even though I predicted one of the twists early on at 18% in, I DID NOT EXPECT THE TWIST AT THE END!!!
* Favourite scene - The Gala Heist/The Bee and Bonnet
* Favourite character - Mr Yoon (ifykyk)

Readers who enjoyed ‘Bridget Jones Diary’ and ‘Me Before You’ will love this!

If you’re looking for the perfect romcom filled with classic tropes such as enemies to lovers, faking dating and a love triangle to name a few with a healthy amount of spice and a whole lot of tear jerking wholesome moments then you need this on your TBR!

A big thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House and the fabulous author Kirsty Greenwood for this gifted ARC in return for an honest review.

The Love of my Afterlife

What would you do if you had 10 days to save your own life? Delphie’s experience of the afterlife and her rollercoaster adventure to do what she can to not return had me laughing, crying and on the edge of my seat!

So many tropes, within one massive trope! There’s nothing like dying to realise you aren’t truly living your life. I loved Delphie’s ability to ‘accidentally’ collect people as she attempts to find the love of her afterlife, resulting in new experiences and her own little found family.

The character development throughout seems to come from Delphie’s perspective, you learn that there’s more to these people that she has initially brushed off than meets the eye as they all become important parts of a very well put together story!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

This is one of those books which gives you a pleasant surprise. When I started it, I thought that I wouldn't like it and wouldn't be able to finish it. But I persevered and I'm glad I did. There are some life lessons to be learnt from this book. I loved the way the character got a life, excuse the pun. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from NetGalley. It grabbed me from the opening chapter. The beginning was both comical and serious at the same time, but left me wanting to read on further to find out more of what is going to happen.

The relationships/friendships within this plot are really believable and I thought it was so cute how Aled went out of his way to help Delphie and the care that he shows his new friend is lovely to see.

The main character, Delphie is easy to relate to and understand - she very much reminds me of myself when it comes to friendships.

Delphie’s search to find Jonah is so determined and she will literally stop at nothing in the attempt to find him again, despite how many hurdles she comes up against in her searches!

Delphie and Cooper - what can I say!! You will just have to read the book to find out what happens to their friendship.

This book is based on friendships, loss, love stories, family and is just an overall perfect book if you like a romance.. I would recommend this book!

This book operated on such a unique premise that I was hooked right from the beginning. Delphie was a great protagonist with a great arc and I loved the cast of supporting characters just as much. I really loved that it went beyond a traditional romance in the sense that it was a love story alongside a tale of personal self development. The story was just so fun and it seemed to encompass a number of different genres well, it's the perfect pick for a summer read.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This book was such a fun read with a proper cutesy vibe and I just loved watching the main character’s journey unfold.
I loved the character development in this book and Delphie is a really fun main character. Alongside Delphie, there’s a whole raft of other characters that help create a classic rom-com feel to this book, making it a very joyful book to read. For me, the storyline was a good concept even if it did become a little predictable at times, but the characters were the real stars of this show and I loved the positivity in life throughout this book, even when Delphie couldn’t quite see it!

Delphie has died choking on a burger in her pjs. As she enters the afterlife she meets the most perfect man who is smiling at her. As they chat Delphie finds that this the man of her dreams. Then a woman comes running over saying it’s all a mistake and send the man back to earth. Delphie is gutted but then the woman, Merritt, offers Delphie an amazing opportunity. She can go back to her life and find the man, reconnect and happy ever after. However there is a catch, she only has 10 days to find him, make him fall for her but he will have no recollection of them ever meeting.

This book had me invested from the first chapter. Delphie is hilarious and the people she meets along the way, while trying to find Jonah, are also brilliant characters. Oh Mr Yoon has my heart bless him. I had an inkling of the ending but this book was so good it didn’t matter. It had me laughing, crying and wanting it to work out for Delphie so damn much. This is just a perfect example of a feel good book. It has fake dating, enemies to lovers and I can’t wait to read more by this author. 5 star read without fail

I flipping loved this book. Weird premise meant I put it off for a little while but I’m so glad I gave it a chance.

Delphie is dead. She choked on a burger and died. Except, she arrives in Evermore, the afterlife, where she meets Merritt her afterlife therapist and Jonah - the apparent love of her life. Merritt promises her she can return to life permanently if she convinces Jonah to kiss her first within 10 days (in true fairy tale style). Except she has no idea where Jonah is or how to find him. Enter Cooper and the rest, as they say, is history.

I’m not sure how best to describe the book - kinda sci fi, romcom, a little bit magical, fantasy. It really is a heartwarming story, kinda predictable but in the best way!

Love story tropes as identified by Delphie herself - fake dating turns real, bit of a love triangle, family relationships, enemies to in love.

I’d wholeheartedly recommend The Love of my Afterlife and will be looking out for other titles from Kirsty Greenwood.

What a great book! I loved the characters and the story, Delphie was likeable and I was rooting for her throughout. A great summer read with A Good Place vibes.

This was just a bit different to everything else out there and I loved it! Great plot, a fabulous heroine prepared to go to any lengths to connect with her soul mate when she gets a second chance at life, but is he who she thinks he is? Heart warming, funny and a really good read.

Thoughts 💭

Oh my goodness me what a book. I heard about this book a while ago and was so excited to have received an ARC. It’s like nothing I’ve ever read before and it felt like such an original story. I’d describe it as The Good Place meets The Little Mermaid meets Bridget Jones.

It had a perfect mix of humour and drama and lots of romance tropes. I was rooting for Delphie so much and desperately wanted her to stay alive. This was my first Kirsty Greenwood book but I’ll definitely be reading more ☺️

Thank you so much to @kirsty_greenwood and @netgalley for a copy of this book. It’s definitely up there with my favourite books of the year so far.

the love of my after life - kirsty greenwood

firstly can we take a moment to appreciate this cover?
like it is the perfect cover for lounging on a beach/by the pool/ on the sofa. that cover screams summer read to me - which is pretty perfect actually because this is a hilarious romance set during a heatwave one summer in london.

like most romances, this has a great meet cute - only this one happens in the afterlife when delphie ends up dying in an embarrassing way at 27 and bumps into jonah, who in an admin error has ended up in the lobby. he’s actually just under anaesthetic, not dead, unlike delphie. the problem? they might just be soul mates. delphie manages to get sent back to her life for a second chance but it is all dependent on her finding jonah and getting him to fall in love with her. what ensues is funny, charming, sometimes cringy and has everything all our favourite romances does: cute romances, endearing characters and getting a second chance.

this is easily one of the funniest books i’ve read this year - it’s whimsical, romantic and has all my favourite tropes all in a neat little package.

the love of my afterlife is out 20th june in the uk and 2nd july in the us (perfect for anyone wanting a summer romance to show off in the sunshine!). thank you @netgalley for the early copy!
