"The Love of My Afterlife" by Kirsty Greenwood is a riotously funny rom-com that had me laughing out loud from start to finish.
Delphie's unconventional journey in the afterlife, following a tragic microwave burger incident, is both absurdly entertaining and unexpectedly heartwarming. The plot, fueled by Delphie's quest to find Jonah, the soulmate she meets in the afterlife, is refreshingly unpredictable.
Greenwood's writing is sharp and witty, effortlessly weaving humour into every page.
Delphie, with her only-been-kissed-once, virgin status and lingering childhood traumas, is a relatable yet endearing protagonist.
The absurdity of Evermore coupled with the quirky inhabitants of Westbourne Hyde Road, including Delphie's surly neighbour, Cooper, the cantankerous Mrs Ernestine, Delphie's fashion-crazy pharmacy boss, Leanne and her mum, Jan, and the wonderful old Mr Yoon, add a delightful layer of charm to the story.
What sets this rom-com apart is its ability to balance humour with genuine emotional moments. As Delphie rediscovers the joys of life while searching for Jonah, the narrative took unexpected turns, keeping me engaged and invested in her character development. The exploration of relationships and personal growth is seamlessly integrated into the comedic tapestry.
Kirsty Greenwood's imaginative storytelling and clever dialogue make this a standout rom-com. It defies predictability, making it a delightful and thoroughly enjoyable read.
I look forward to diving into more of Greenwood's books in the future, anticipating the same level of humour, heart, and unpredictability that made "The Love of My Afterlife" a 5-star gem.
Thanks so much to Kirsty Greenwood, Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Delphi’e has died and finds herself in the lobby of the afterlife at Evermore with her afterlife therapist Merritt. Delphie doesn’t want to be dead though and she signs a contract with Delphie to return to living on the condition she is kissed by Jonah who she had a brief interaction with in the afterlife lobby, an interaction which made her feel he was her soulmate. Jonah however was there by mistake and has returned to earth. To stay alive Jonah has to kiss her, which Delphie thinks will be easy, once she finds him that is.
What follows is a story with laughter, romance but also moments of sadness. Delphie is a loner and doesn’t really interact with the people she works with or go out socially, the only person she sees regularly is Mr Yoon, her elderly neighbour, who she makes breakfast for.
Things have to change though to enable Delphie to find Jonah as she realises she wants to live and enjoy life and as she is looking for Jonah she makes new friends, gets to know the people around her better as well as bumping into bullies from school and getting the chance to lay some ghosts to rest. She also gets to know her neighbour Cooper better, in fact much better.
I laughed out loud at parts of this book and was routing for Delphie to get her happy ending as she deserved a new life with new friends and the end to her loneliness but does she get it, I will leave it to you to find out.
I devoured this book in 2 days, reading it every spare moment I had, easily worth 5 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Randomhouse UK for allowing me a preview of this book, the opinions however are all my own.

Oh my goodness… The romance I didn’t know I needed!! Think How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days but this time we’re trying to keep him! I can’t believe how much I adored this book. I was rooting for Delphie the entire way through. As someone who suffered from bullying as a child and who actively withdraws from others I instantly clicked with our main character. I adore her sweet soul of a neighbour Mr Yoon , I adore the wonderful friends she gains along the way & I’m head over heels in love with the romance in this one. When death is on the cards do you choose love, or life? I can’t say much as I don’t want to give away the plot but when I tell you this book is going to be HUGE on bookstagram, booktok & the rest I promise you I’m not even close to exaggerating! Kirsty did an incredible job of building the most wonderful assortment of characters from all tropes of life. You can’t help but to smile as they develop relationships , friendships & follow their hearts. I’m so so grateful to NetGalley for recommending this one , it’s hands down my absolute favourite romance and that’s coming from a Thriller/ Horror lover! I laughed, I cried & I smiled till my cheeks hurt. I can’t wait for you all to get your hands on this one and I can’t wait to buy it upon release because LOOK AT THAT COVER 😍😍 The easiest 5 stars I’ve given to a book in a long time!

Oh my goodness, where do I start??? Delphi at first was irritating, I couldn’t understand why someone would live the way she was but once you get to know her you love her. All the characters in this book were so brilliantly written. I think this could be my favourite book of the year

This book made me laugh out loud. Shamelessly, laugh and giggle on a bus packed full of strangers. I really don’t care, I just got so caught up in the story that the emotions just had to come out.
Delphie Bookham is a funny girl, but she’s also lonely. Her only friend is her non-verbal neighbour Mr Yoon. She has no close friends and lives a quiet life, until she dies after choking on a microwave burger. Hint, don’t eat crappy microwave burgers or you will be unalived.
Delphie goes to heaven or Evermore and meets Merritt who shows her the film of her sad life. Whilst she’s waiting to see what happens next, her soulmate arrives in Evermore, but he’s there by mistake and he gets sent back. Merritt agrees to let Delphie go back and she can stay alive if she finds her soulmate and gets him to kiss her within ten days.
Armed with just the name Jonah T, Delphie tries to find her soulmate. Along the way to finding her soulmate, Delphie makes friends with the people who help her. It’s a bit like Little Beaver and the Echo, how Delphie suddenly has all of these new friends and she’s not alone anymore.
Most importantly she becomes friends with her neighbour Cooper. Ahhhhhh, big sigh.
It’s a funny, quirky read. I wanted there to be a reasonable explanation for the death experience because I like plots to make sense, unless they are fantasy or paranormal books. The ending is nothing like I expected.

I think this has a chance of being my favourite book of 2024.
Started off thinking that I wasn’t going to enjoy it but boy, was I wrong. The main characters are amazing and I really loved how the storyline developed. I’d give it 6 stars if I could

Wow, what a gorgeous book. I loved everything about it and the plot will stick with me for a while.
It’s unique, quirky and also thought provoking. I was quickly drawn into the characters, and each one stood out.
It is definitely one of my favourites this year and more than worthy of 5 stars.

On the surface this is a story about finding your soulmate (after you meet him briefly in the afterlife) but really it is about connecting with those around you and living life to the fullest. Funny, and heart warming without being twee. Some great characters and some poignant moments showing how we can find ourselves alone when surrounded by people. A lovely read.

After an incident involving a microwave burger, recluse Delphie finds herself in the ‘afterlife’ waiting room. But when she’s given a second chance in life, with certain conditions, she needs to finds something worth living for.
This was a really sweet and funny story and if you enjoyed Ashley Poston’s The Dead Romantics, you’ll love this! Delphie keeps people at arms lengths because she’s been so disappointed by them and her awkwardness and being antisocial is often mistaken by rudeness. But this only adds to her likeness and one of the reasons you really start cheering for her.
I really enjoyed this, it was fun and endearing with a side of the supernatural and I loved how the story came together at the end!

I could barely put this book down, it's so good. Funny, sad, encouraging. This book has it all.
Merrit is an Afterlife coach with some scary ambitious traits. Delphie lands in her laundrette fresh from choking, unable to quite accept that this is her lot, she pleads to be sent back. She had 10 days to make it happen with a task that needs to be met. She signs the contract in the same way Ariel signs over her voice in The Little Mermaid.
She'd been a recluse, these 10 days show her what life could or maybe should have been.
From arrogant Cooper, Mr Yoon, Frida, Amy, Malcolm, Uncle Lester, her work colleagues at pharmacy to name but a few, she really has no choice but to engage and experience life. Will she make it in time, will her newly found zest for life and community spirit help her meet the requirements? It's such an awesome fun read on the way to finding out. Recommended as one of the funny and awesome romance comedies of 2024. It also gives off The Good Place Vibes in parts.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House UK and Cornerstone for providing this e-arc in exchange for an honest review - my first ARC read!
I loved this book!! What a clever idea - reading the summary, I was immediately hooked!
I’ll keep this review short, as I saw in another review and definitely agree, that the less you know about the plot, the better experience you’ll have reading!
However, this book has:
- Humour - I laughed out loud loads!
- Clever world building of the afterlife
- Loveable characters (Merritt specifically!)
- References to romance novels and films - loved that!
- An intriguing plot
- Soulmates
- Grumpy neighbour
- Relatable FMC
- An incredible, heartwarming plot twist (which I did unfortunately guess about half way, but, nevertheless, did not ruin it!)
A very addictive, fast-paced, romcom with guaranteed laughs and swooning! 🫶🏼

Oh, what an absolute dream of a read! I will do a full review nearer to publication and on my blog, but I just wanted to say how wonderful this read actually is.
For me, who did nothing but romance, women's fiction, and rom-com reading and then reviews, I became totally bored with the genre. So dull and repetitive. There is no life or spark. Very rarely, a book would even grab my attention.
I took this one because of the author. Her books have always made me laugh, and I have a huge respect for her for always keeping it real.
The Love of My After Life by Kirsty Greenwood has totally reminded me of why I read and loved that genre. It’s about time somebody came and spun it on its ass, and well, here comes Queen KG with a unique, funny, honest, and both heartbreaking and heartwarming book of life, love, death, and the afterlife! Oh, and you never look at a caramel slice the same way again!
5/5

I really loved this book. It was fun and funny.
Delphie dies, when she opens her eyes she meets Merritt, her guide to the afterlife if you will. Merritt is romance obsessed and believes in true love. Unusually another soul interrupt their session and Merritt informs Delphie that the person is her soulmate, well one of them anyway, and that she will send her back to earth if she can find him in 10 days, after that she dies again and this time its forever.
What follows is a very entertaining and surprising read about love, connection, family, 2nd chances and taking chances.
I loved it and would read it again. Would really love to see a book from Merritts perspective as that girl has a full book in her.

I loved this book about Delphie getting herself a life after she dies. Lovely characters although a little too slapstick in places for my taste.

An absolute TRIUMPH of a book! My first K. Greenwood book, but it won't be my last. It's absurd to find myself laughing at someone who's dying on the first page, but goodness, every word was perfection. I gobbled it up in one day even while I wanted it to last forever. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed and like me, you'll root for Delphie to succeed every step of the way!

I loved this book! I was slightly worried when reading it that it would be a copycat of 'What's your number' as the start was definitely giving me those vibes but it had different twists and you genuienly fall in love with the characters. I genuinely cried whilst reading this book. The book is super wholesome and will leave you wanting to read whats next!
Delphie lives life as a lone wolf until one day she chokes on a piece of burger alone in her flat, when given a second chance at life, she makes the most of the time she has and finally discovers what love and friendship feel like.
Thank you for letting me read this wonderful book!

The Love of My Afterlife is a cute fluffy romance book novel by Kirsty Greenwood. It tells the tale of a woman named Delphi who has been given a second chance at romance in the most unusual way.
Delphi is quirky and lovable in the way that always makes you want to root for her.
There could have been a bit more romance weaved throughout the book but overall a lovely read.

Absolutely loved this book read it in 3 days ...its a lovely story of hope courage and eventually love !!!! 10 out 10

The premise of this book had me hooked from the second I read the blurb. I loved Merritt so so much, she gave me Michael from the food place vibes and I loved her love of romance. All the references to other romances, yes I loved all of it. My only complaint is there wasn’t enough spice! If spice isn’t for you, this book is right up your alley. I just wanted a spicier book with all those references to Jamie Fraser and other romance novels! But the love story here, I’m obsessed. There’s so many good layers involved, found family, grief, healing, growing. I love it all. Thank you for this book!

Thank you go Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy.
I've read a few of Kirsty Greenwood's books in the past and always enjoyed them so I was very excited to get an early copy of this to read.
I really enjoyed the story, it had me laughing out loud at some points. I loved the premise of trying to chase down a lover you've only ever laid eyes on to in the Afterlife.
If you're looking for an easy romcom with a different spin this is for you. It's filled with humour and some favourite tropes:
Found family
Forced proximity
Grumpy x sunshine
