This book contains interviews and lesson learned from all the digital nomads. I actually am a remote worker myself, yet I don't think I can relate with the "nomad" living conditions, but some of the contents of this book definitely relatable. This is a good book although not too technical. Great for reading.

This does what the title says it will - teaches you how to become a digital nomad. Only if one's job allows of course, if you have a district job as I do, it would not be possible but for those jobs where you can work from anywhere, why not travel and work - this book shows you how.

Many people wish they could travel the world, but work gets in the way. One cannot get off to travel due to schedules, deadlines, and the unending work that has to be done. However, there is a way to become a digital nomad - working while traveling around the world. Kayla Ihrig writes about her experience becoming a digital nomad and presents ways that her readers can do the same. Being a digital nomad is working online with no set place to work; one can work in a coffee shop in France, or one can work wherever there is a solid wifi connection around the world. Ihrig explains the similarities that one can experience as a digital nomad and as a worker in one location: burnout can happen. One can overwork themselves and not get to see what they traveled to see. Ihrig shares how to plan becoming a digital nomad, how to keep your career growing as a digital nomad, and how to manage your finances while being a digital nomad. In each chapter Ihrig gives little exercises to help readers develop their plan to become a digital nomad. Ihrig also shares a timeline of what to do in each step of becoming a digital nomad and safety tips. How to Be a Digital Nomad is a great resource for those wishing to travel and work their way around the world. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was such a lovely and comforting read. It answers so many questions and bursts so many fears around doing something that appeals to so many but only a few have the courage to pursue. Kayla Ihrig really does feel like the friend you're traveling with as she shares stories from her own experiences and it filled me with even more wanderlust as she talked about her time in different places around the world. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering becoming a digital nomad or who is already living it and wants to get the most out of their experience.

Reviewed from the perspective of someone working remote/hybrid in tech I found this book really helpful for planning my move to self employed consultancy in the digital nomad landscape. This was written in such an engaging way, easy to digest and broken down in a way to take a topic I was finding overwhelming to look at as a whole and breaking it down in to manageable steps. Highly recommend to fellow remote/hybrid workers in tech looking to get themselves out in to the world and find better work/life balance.

I wish to thank NetGalley and the novel’s publishers for the free ARC of ‘How to Be a Digital Nomad’ as it allowed me an insight into a phenomenon that has been gaining traction for several years, probably spurred on by social media and the digital visas on offer in several countries: the ‘digital nomad’ life of working ‘on the move’. If the taglines and reviews are to believed, the digital nomad population is already the same size as the populations of Morocco or Canada, making an even stronger case for a practical, no-nonsense guide such as this one. A short read (you only get 242 pages), I liked the fact this book included several perspectives and experiences, even though it was a little too focused on the US-American realities of digital nomadism. I recommend this slim tome as an interesting starting-off point for those interested in taking part in the digital phenomenon.

A digital nomad is someone who travels and works remotely, usually keeping travelling rather than settling in a new country long-term, although a lot of the advice is relevant to both situations. It's rooted in Ihrig's own experience and she shares a lto of her mistakes, as well as offering to be that friend who will take you through the process. While that's all very jolly it's actually a super-detailed and useful guide, covering points from earning money, choosing where and how to live and work, visas and permissions, budgeting, health, safety and security.

She's big on admin and how you must keep on top of things (i.e. submit all your work early) and even has a plan for the days around a big journey. It's a tiny bit repetitive at points but I think she just wants to make sure some things hit home. I enjoyed the details from other digital nomads, from a guy who went around with a terminal and borrowed people's phones to dial up to submit work in the early years to people doing it now: it was carefully researched and will be invaluable to anyone planning to take up this sort of lifestyle.

I feel like someone who is not using social media that much might find all the information found in this book useful or maybe I had higher expectations than I should have had from the book.

I found this book to be a competent guide for people who are thinking of living as a nomad.

It is well organized by different topics and situations that people may find themselves in, and gives valuable information on what things to prepare for.

To be transparent, I don't think there was enough reflection on what this lifestyle may or may not mean to people of color who are traveling to some of these cities in the hopes of living there permanently or temporarily.

In addition to local customs, there needs to be more information on understanding local laws.

After reading it I felt better prepared and more informed on what steps I need to take and the information I need to investigate to transition to this lifestyle.

I struggled to get into this a little. I like the underlying theories and ideas, but it isn't something that I found could be too applicable to my life.

A practical manual for anyone considering ditching their worldly possessions and creature comforts to pursue the dream of traveling the globe and working as a digital nomad. The lifestyle isn't always the glamorous, highly edited reels you see on your social media every day, but it can prove to be a deeply profound experience that otherwise would've felt out of reach.

Working as a Digital Nomad since 2017, the author paints a pragmatic picture of both realities.

The author strikes a great balance between inspiring you to believe you can pursue digital nomadism (positioning herself as your friend who has already done it), and giving you straight talk about the challenges one can encounter in such a life.

The book is well structured, sharing a variety of options open to you, alongside practical considerations. The author offers useful exercises to try and questions to ask yourself to help you choose your path.

Even if you are not going to go down this road yourself, this book will help you see why and how others do it.

My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my feedback.
