I really enjoyed reading this book, I found the storyline imerssive and compelling, Faulkner manages to grab our attention from the first page and it's definitely one of those books, you can't put down for too long as you want to know what happens next and how the story ends. I love a morally grey characters and the reader very quickly realises that every single person in this story has dirty secrets. The dual POV and short chapters make for an easy and fast pace and I really enjoyed how Tash's and Sophie's stories eventually meet at point zero through loads of plot twists. The way Faulkner gives us Tash's 'outsider' feeling and her desire to 'fit in' and be part of the 'cool/rich/wearing expensive clothes' mums group is very convincing and the realisation that nothing is actually as it seems from the outside is well constructed. Overall, it's not easy to write an original and fresh book in this genre and I was so pleasantly surpised that 'The Other Mothers' was such an enjoyable reading experience.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy, all opinions are my own.

This was a gripping domestic thriller that explores the dark side of suburban life, with compelling and interspersed characters with a great plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. It’s not to be missed

The other mothers is a creepy tale of murder, infidelity and friendship.

While dealing with a complex murder investigation, it also throws a spotlight on the difficult relationships between mothers.

Told from two perspectives and timelines, we follow Tash as she tries to fit in with the playgroup mothers as well as be a freelance journalist, and Sophie a young nanny who died in suspicious circumstances.

Will Tash solve the murder? Will she love to tell the tale? Tash soon finds herself embroiled in a very risky investigation and has to question everyone around her, who is safe? Who can she trust?

Lots of characters, most of them with a murky secret to hide. A gritty read.

Another superb novel from Katherine Faulkner, and equally as engrossing as Greenwich Park. The other mothers seem to have a much better life than the principal character and she is desperate to integrate herself into the group. However, other people's lives are not always what they seem, and secrets abound. Well written and full of delightful revelations, this is a very enjoyable novel.

I'm interested in thrillers surrounding mothers and motherhood. And this book does make a few good points about that topic but it's mostly a domestic thriller about the murder of a nanny.

The book suffers from bad characters and their questionable decision making skills. It's told from alternating POVs of Sophie, the nanny from a few months before she was killed and present day Tash, a struggling journalist in search of her next big story.

It starts off slow but slowly gets interesting and while I wasn't hooked to the book, I wanted to keep going to find out what happens. I wasn't fond of the ending and as a whole, thought it could have been far better,

Thanks to Netgalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for the advanced e-copy.

Took a long time to stop being a slow burner and the ‘action’ start and feel could have been a shorter book,I found some of the writing choppy and the sentences worded too short and was sometimes re editing in my mind instead of concentrating on the story etc,,also found the beginning a bit confusing as to who was who
Once the story got going was much more enjoyable

Honestly the most I've been gripped by a novel in quite a while, with many twists and turns, I found myself constantly wanting to keep reading, particularly towards the end. While there were a fair few predictable moments, there was also quite a few points where I didn't know what to anticipate and was shocked when the next big moment was revealed. Will definitely be sharing this to my platforms soon.

This was everything I love in domestic noirs! The characters are well written and given dimesniin. There are twists and turns and the author expertly builds suspense and tension through her descriptive and evocative writing style. Its split pov and also deals with the topics of privilege and class very tastefully and honestly. Amazing!

I would like to express my gratitude to Bloomsbury and NetGalley for generously providing me with an ARC copy of 'The Other Mothers' by Katherine Faulkner.

The novel is a thrilling murder mystery that follows Tash, a freelance journalist, as she investigates the death of Sophie, a young woman who used to work as a nanny for one of the mothers at the nursery where Tash's son goes.

The story takes place in a nursery where there is a group of mothers, including Laura and Claire, who seem to have it all - perfect lives, endless play dates, posh coffees, lavish brunches, and great friendships. Tash, who longs to be part of this group, is envious of their seemingly perfect lives.

As Tash delves deeper into the investigation, she realizes that the group of mothers is not as perfect as it seems. The story alternates between Tash and Sophie's perspectives, giving us insight into their worlds and the secrets that they hold.

The author, Katherine Faulkner, has done an excellent job of creating a gripping and suspenseful tale that is hard to put down. Her writing is detailed and descriptive, making it easy to visualize the different scenes and characters.

Overall, 'The Other Mothers' is a fantastic read that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It was a huge page turner and by the end I'd been spun around so many times. It's a thriller and becomes really gripping when you realise who is actually involved in the crime isn't who you think at all, or is it?

This happens after Sophie's mother approaches Tash, begging her to investigate. She is convinced that her daughter was murdered, but is unable to provide any proof or information to support this assertion.

Increasingly caught up in the case, Tash is dismayed to discover that Sophie actually worked as a nanny for one of the women in the 'yummy mummy' clique that she herself has recently been accepted into. Delighted to be hanging out with this well-heeled and popular trio of women, it takes a while before Tash starts questioning why they have chosen to include her in their social circle at all, since she would not otherwise be a natural candidate for their friendship.

Nor are the women willing to talk about Sophie at all, which Tash finds puzzling. There is clearly more to the story than meets the eye, and the book does an excellent job of taking the reader along for the suspenseful ride that the lead character unexpectedly finds herself taking.

Faulkner has written a marvellous book - intriguing, suspenseful, and highly enjoyable. She also provides an intelligent and nuanced take on issues of class and privilege. Her insightful observations about new motherhood, and how different people deal with this all too common - but nevertheless fraught - change in their circumstances lend the narrative greater depth and authenticity. This is definitely a writer to look out for.

I have not read Greenwich Park, no idea how I missed it…. but it’s being added to my TBR list having now read and thoroughly enjoyed The Other Mothers.
The story revolves around the discovery of a young nanny's death and the subsequent investigation. It is told from the perspectives of Tash and Sophie, and alternates between the past and present. Tash, a new mother and freelance journalist, becomes intrigued by the mysterious circumstances of the nanny's death, which she sees as the story that will launch her career. She’s also looking to make friends with the mothers in her son's playgroup but neglects to tell them that she is investigating Sophie’s death.
A recommended read with a compelling storyline, that keeps you guessing until the end.

This was a fantastic read I hadn’t read the authors first book but heard great things about it. So after how great this was I am going to read it straight away.

Tash is freelance Journalist and mother of a young son Finn. She is struggling to settle Finn into playgroup and also her freelance carers is not going well at all. When Tash is trying to settle Finn into playground one morning she meets Laura who invites Tash into her friendship group with their glamorous lifestyle how can Tash resist. Tash is also working on a story about a young girls death trying to find out what really happened. But finds out the truth may be a lot closer to home than she soon realised.

The other mothers was a great thriller which had you guessing until the very end. There was so many suspects you didn’t know who to trust. Definitely recommend this book.

the heart of a captivating narrative, I found myself entwined in a tale intricately woven with suspense and curiosity. From the very beginning, the story seized my attention, beckoning me to unravel the layers of mystery that gradually unfolded. However, as the narrative reached its conclusion, a blend of satisfaction and lingering questions colored my overall experience.

The characters, portrayed with depth and intricacy, added layers to the unfolding drama. The well-managed pacing ensured a continuous and engaging journey. Yet, as the story drew to a close, my anticipation for a conclusive resolution left me with both admiration and a sense of yearning.

While the ending may not have aligned with my initial expectations, the beauty lies in the thought-provoking nature of the conclusion. The author's willingness to challenge conventional norms and leave room for interpretation adds a layer of sophistication to the narrative. Looking back, the lingering questions serve as a testament to the story's ability to provoke contemplation and initiate meaningful discussions.

This literary exploration, with its magnetic allure and enigmatic conclusion, underscores the potency of storytelling to captivate and challenge its audience. Reflecting on the pages turned and the unresolved queries, it becomes evident that this tale has transcended the boundaries of a mere story, leaving an enduring imprint on my literary journey.

If you enjoyed Katherine Faulkners previous book, Greenwich Park, then you will love this one!
For me this started off as a pretty slow burner, but now after finishing the book I can see it was building up the characters, their personalities and friendships so she could lead us all down the path of each woman, to then to turn it all on its head!
Every mum can relate to Tash’s trials as a new mum, especially the early days of playgroups when your child refuses to let you leave. And there always seems to be a little clique of mothers who seem to find newly found parenthood a breeze.
Tash envies that group of mums and their endless play dates, posh coffees, lavish brunches and their friendships and would love to be included in their little clique.
But beware what you wish for because as with a lot of things in life, nothing is quite as it seems.
The story flicks between Tash and Sophie, the previous live in nanny for Claire, one of the other mothers, and Sophie’s chapters are all told under the headings of how many months, weeks, days and even hours and minutes before her death.
Sophie died whilst wild swimming in the local wetlands months before Tash becomes part of the mothers group and the topic of Sophie is not up for discussion within the group.
What Tash fails to tell the other mothers is that now she has become a freelance journalist she has been digging into Sophie’s death.
As all their lives become more entangled, old and new secrets and lies start to rise to the surface, alongside plot twist after plot twist, all leading to an ending that’s as shocking as it is unexpected!
