Wow. Lucky Girls appeared upon first glance to be a frothy summer read but I didn’t expect the darkness or the bite.
Such a great book, all the five stars 🌟

I little bit of a slow burn for me however the characters were engaging and they kept me reading - i found the latter part of the book more pacey and finding its stride which i really enjoyed. I loved the setting and the descriptions' of the island. I can imagine sitting on a beach reading this book, overall a great summer thriller

Very character driven and a bit of a slow burn so it dragged a bit for my liking but I did become invested in the characters and thelat kept me reading. The 2md half was a bit more fast paved and kept me more intrigued. The scene is set to vividly of the island and the environment. There's a lot of backstory for the history and they're brought to life well. A decent summer thriller overall

Engaging, Compelling..
A stunning island escape, a celebration, a gathering of clans and a whole host of secrets. What could be more alluring than an escape to a sun drenched island? Dee thinks that it will be the perfect escape, a chance to get away from her own burning secrets for a short while. Willa, the bride to be, is also holding on to her own agenda. In fact, the reality is that nothing is really as it seems. A slow burn suspense with a deftly drawn cast, a simmering plot and with a vividly painted backdrop. Engaging and compelling.

Not a bad book overall. Maybe could've been a bit shorter. Didn't really like where the messages/texts plot ended up and felt this whole storyline could've been left out.

I found the first half of this really confusing and pretty boring, I think more backstory on the characters would have been good because i felt thrown into the deep end without any connection to any of the characters. The second half was definitely better with some decent twists and more connection to the characters, especially Dee & Willa but it was quite far fetched. It felt like it was gearing up to be a series, which I probably would read.

OK so this is a book that starts really slowly and you first detest the main female character. Then you get to see her flaws and her journey and you start to feel for what she's been through, although you can't quite still understand where this is all going. I really loved the intrigue and the characters, the fact that everything happens on an island also feels a little cathartic for the characters. A very good first book, I am really looking forward to reading more from this author!

‘Lucky Girls’ by Liv Webbe is set on a gorgeous French island, in an enviable holiday home, but within the first few chapters it becomes clear that there’s no reason to be jealous of Dee and Willa - the two main characters and narrators of this captivating novel. Dee, who is not used to a life of luxury, is visiting her boyfriend Aaron’s family and has brought along her best friend Madhu for moral support - however, Dee is holding some secrets close to her chest and looking for an escape. Imposing and aloof Willa is about to marry Aaron’s brother Lukas, but Willa isn’t even her real name. There are many intriguing mysteries to unravel…

I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the idyllic setting which contrasted so well with the darkness of the tale. I also enjoyed finding out more about ‘Willa’ and the strange life she had chosen for herself throughout the book - the slow burn release of information definitely kept me gripped! The ending was incredibly tense and shocking.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find either character likeable or relatable - perhaps because they kept so much of themselves hidden for most of the novel - and a few aspects of the story were quite confusing until everything came together. Despite not liking ‘Willa’, I could understand her motivations and I will definitely thinking about this book for a while.

All in all, it was a 3.5 star (rounded up!) read for me - recommended for fans of Catherine Cooper’s destination thrillers or Katy Brent’s feminist adventures.

I received a free review copy of this ebook from the publisher Headline Books via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

A serious page turner and a 5 star read! The premise, setup and use of location is amazing! Liv Webbe knows how to perfectly weave a thriller and bring together a bunch of characters with their own complexities.

I loved the island and backstory of the narrators. Even the supporting characters are strong and lend to the story. Cannot recommend this book enough. It is more than just a thriller yet never loses pace. The book also shows how everything is not what it seems like and kept me on my toes!

Thank you NetGalley and Headline for this e-arc in exchange of my unbiased review.

So excited to have discovered this author! 'Lucky Girls' is the epitome of unputdownable!

Dee is vacationing with her boyfriend Aaron. Aaron comes from a wealthy family and they are retreating to the family's second home on a French Island with Aaron's family to celebrate the impending marriage of Aaron's brother, Lucas, to the enigmatic Willa. Dee's longstanding best friend comes along for the ride.

Willa at once recognises Dee from 10 years previously, although it is instantly apparent this recognition is not reciprocated. Willa is openly rude to Dee, but chinks in her armour appear that confuse and intrigue Dee. To the reader it is very clear that Willa is not all she seems and a deeper agenda is at play. To avoid spoilers I will not hint at what that agenda might be, but I will just say it is so unusual that I am in awe of the mind that conjured up this story. I was utterly gripped from the get-go and held in its rapture throughout!!

5 stars is nowhere near enough!!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy of this outstanding and original novel.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Quite a slow burner, with only little bits of the story being told or hinted at throughout - but this just heightened the suspense. I loved both Willa and Dee, constantly wondering who the hero was! I'm not sure if the title of the book compliments the story though. 5 stars from me and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thrilling page turner.

Sadly this wasn’t for me. I didn’t like the subject matter, nor the way it was handled. I’m afraid I didn’t get past halfway.

Fast paced thriller dealing with rape and revenge. Important points made about consent and lack of prosecution for rapists, so although the lengths the character is prepared to go to may seem far fetched- it works.

Really enjoyed this- read all in one go.

I have never read anything by this author before, but I really liked her writing style, it was very pleasant to read. The characters were very well fleshed-out and I felt immersed in the story.

My only negatives would be that the pacing was a bit slow, and I feel that the location was a bit under-utilised. For most of the book, I forgot that it was even set in France, it could have been anywhere.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it.

Rape. Cheating. Entitlement. Murder. A confusing book with not much suspense or interest. Just an entitled family and women murdering rapists. Not much of a plot to me.

This is the kind of thriller you would want to read while on a tropical beach! The plot is twisty, and the characters too hot to handle! An excellent novel.

Secrets, revenge, a vigilante, overbearing snobbish parents and an island in France, what more could you possibly ask for.

This is a well written novel that wasa good quick read. It wasn't a thriller I don't think, but it had good suspense and you do want to find out what is going on.

I was sent this ARC from netgalley in return for an honest review.

Willa is the centre of attention, as the bride-to-be in a lavish wedding for which her fiance's entire clan has gathered to celebrate his marriage. So why isn't she happier?

Dee has come to attend the wedding with her boyfriend, and to enjoy their time on this beautiful island as a respite from the pressures that are dragging her down. So what's eating her?

Willa and Dee might both be considered lucky to be where they are, but their situations are different. What they *do* you have in common is that they are both harbouring secrets that could be life-changing if anyone found out.

Except that, unfortunately for those gathered for this island wedding, someone is about to demonstrate just *how* dangerous certain secrets can be...

This was an easy and entertaining read, with a good helping of suspense stirred in.
