What a heartfelt and emotional journey. The story follows Anna Kotze, a London based doctor or mixed heritage, who uncovers a long-hidden family secret after discovering a necklace engraved with her middle name, 'Indira". This revelation leads her on a quest to trace her father's roots, uncovering a tale of abandonment and a complex family history that spans continents.

What I loved most was how the novel delved into themes of identity, belonging and the complexities of family dynamics. Anna's determination to uncover the truth, despite her father's reluctance, made for a compelling narrative. The settings - from the thunderstorms of Zimbabwe to the monsoons of India - were vividly described, adding depth to the story.

I found Anna's persistence and drive to understand her heritage admirable, and although the book's pacing was a bit unever at times, overall it was a poignant read that will stay with me long after finishing.

I really enjoyed The Promise of Rain, Anna is an engaging character I felt connected to her and wanted her to find out her heritage. Anna's father Mathew was a foundling, and adopted in Zimbabwe but has never spoken about his past. Anna feels that part of her is missing not knowing her Indian roots so she is determined to investigate her father's biological parents on their trip to Zimbabwe.

The locations are beautifully depicted and I was drawn in to the mystery. A captivating read

The Promise of Rain , is the lead Anna's search for her roots as her father was adopted as a new born.

There is a desperate urgency to the lead character which at times especially in the end felt like a rebellion without t much cause behind it. Overall I liked the story though wished the lead Anna was written better.

I enjoyed the author's first book very much and liked the setting that of Zimbabwe and India in the second half of 1900's. The setting in this story is very appealing too, for me, it is London, Zimbabwe and India.
