A disappointing book by Lucy Foley. I found the characters to be very 2 dimensional and the whole idea that because someone has money, they are a certain way, and those that aren't so well off another. I finished the book not really caring about any of those in it, and not really sure I could tell you what happened.

This is my second delve into the writing of Lucy Foley and it doesn’t disappoint. I really like the way she character builds but then also gives you an idea of how something will end.
This story had me intrigued from the start, calculated, creepy and with more than one twist I didn’t see coming. A great read.
Many thanks to the publisher for my advanced readers copy.

Excellent story. Easy to read and very engaging.
Dark and twisty with great characters. One of the best books I have read this year.
Thoroughly recommended.

This is my third book by Lucy Foley and having loved The Paris Apartment, I had high expectations from this one. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. I feel like the main reason was that it was extremely snail paced, with so much descriptive writing that did not add much to the plot. I understand that the writing wanted to invoke an eerie feeling in the reader but since it took too long for the narrative to reach its goal I felt like I became bored before I became intrigued. I think a person who loves a thriller that patiently sets the atmosphere and move on its own pace would love this book, emphasis on the atmosphere part because the setting is really good.
The author has blended superstitions and the importance of the legends people believe in into the story and that was something I loved. Rich people, their greed and disregard for the lives they disrupt is shown clearly, and you can't help but hope for something bad to befall on one of the main characters.
I'm glad I decided to stick with reading it because the ending was quite good. The thriller presented me with some predictable and some unpredictable twists. I like how it all wrapped up in the end and left no loopholes.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy Foley is the author who got me back into reading in 2020 so when I saw I had been approved for an ARC I was over the moon! I adore Foley’s writing and the atmosphere she creates in her books, this one was no different. I absolutely loved The Midnight Feast and how creepy and isolated it felt. I loved plot twists and the way everything connected; this is a book to binge in one sitting!
The only thing I didn’t love were the pop culture references and the jokes about politicians - I feel like the book will become dated in a few years because of this. Other than that it was amazing!

Rating 4 stars
Took a bit of time to get going on the story, but once past the halfway mark, it really took off. Thoroughly enjoyed the different characters the novel was seen thru; Francesca the owner of the manor, her husband Owen, Eddie the pot boy, Bella a guest with a past linked to the manor and a detective.
Wrapped up all nicely in the end!
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

Lucy Foley does it again! I've read all of her amazing bestseller Thrillers now, and it's got to the point I don't even need to read the blurb, I see her name and know I want to read it, and I'm going to like it. I was very lucky to be given this opportunity to read an arc of this newest thriller mystery - The Midnight Feast.
Set deep in the woodlands but next to the coast, a new 'Wellness retreat' has opened. You know the type. Eco wooden tree houses, sustainably sourced grass fed chicken on the menu, with locally sourced farmers produce. A spa with only the best sea inspired mineral based products. Except, everything is not quite as it seems behind the scenes. The 'local produce' is not so local after all and is shipped down from London. The local farms are not even allowed to sell produce to the resort, and the owner - Francesca has even gone so far as to attempt to steal land boundaries from the local farms. The locals hate her, and the resort, but are they involved in what happens when it all goes wrong on opening weekend?
The locals have secrets, but they aren't the only ones... Everyone is not who they seem, and a lot of people have a lot of grudges to bear against both the land and the owner...
And then... There's The Birds... Who (or what?) are they? Are they real or just local folklore and legend designed to scare people? Or do they really dish out vengeance and revenge against those who threaten the peace.
I love that Foley always borders slightly on the supernatural/ethereal in her mysteries. Just enough to get the chills, especially paired with a setting such as Midsomer Solstice in the woods, with secrets and people dropping like flies. This was an eerie and mystical novel with a host of mysteries woven through and together that collided at the end.
I enjoyed this ride alot. And have an urge to book into a tree house cabin somewhere in the middle of nowhere donning a wicker crown. 4 feathers.

The story revolves around a holiday location, Tome, where a group of different teenagers come together for the summer and a mysterious crime is committed. Years later, the Manor where the group was hanging out, is turned into a luxury hotel and the opening weekend is meant to be a great deal. However, people haven’t forgotten the life lost and the thread of the mystery starts unravelling until justice is served.
The narrative is extremely well written in the now familiar multiple POVs way of the author. It is also alternating between two timelines, successfully showing us segment by segment the past & present story.
One thing that I will never be tired of is Foley’s impeccable way of creating the ambience in her books! The location and atmosphere in this book is once again amazing. The way she describes the manor, the beach, the little town is remarkable. It adds SO much into the story and builds so much the readers’ anticipation. It gives the readers the feeling of being there along the main characters.
What I additionally liked in this book is the moral compass and motive of the characters. This is the main characteristic that does them apart for me. They are direct opposites and serves very well the development of the plot. This is what drives the story and decides for its ending and it is refreshing to see that in the genre.
Finally, most of the length of the plot was quite slow for me. It took up until the 70% mark for the story to pick up. However, I cannot say that this discouraged me while reading and the rest of the book totally made up for it with multiple plot twists that maybe or maybe not have seen coming. The ending is more than satisfying and a sense of catharsis is what the reader is left with.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, Harper Fiction and Netgalley for the advance reader copy of this book for an honest review.
The Midnight Feast follows the opening of The Manor a luxury health and wellbeing resort with no expense spared for the guests staying. However the town itself has a history and old friends and enemies are returning to the manor previously an estate owned by a former local family where the forest is full of secrets.
The Sunday morning of the opening weekend and the police have been called there's been a fire, something is up with the guests and a body has been found.
Lucy Foley knows how to craft an excellent murder mystery and this story is no exception.
Told from multiple perspectives this keeps you guessing at the upcoming twists and turns throughout and just when you think you've figured out one element of the plot there are two more that come through completely unexpected.
I ended up finishing this book within a day of starting it. It definitely got me out of my reading slump.
Quick and fast based with short chapters based on a variety of characters, despite this multiple POV the characters were all easy to follow and the story all wrapped together well answering any and all questions.
Another fantastic Thriller from Lucy Foley and I already can't wait for whatever is next.

I really enjoy Lucy Foley's books, this one wasn't my favourite but I did still very much enjoy it. I quite liked the build up by the switching back and forth with timelines and POV's. Characters were good and I enjoyed the overall storyline. I was glad to have read it.

Fantastic read. My first Lucy Foley, can't wait to read her other books. Hooked from the start and couldn't put it down. A few great twists in there.

Set at the opening weekend of an ultra luxury wellness hotel we are introduced to various main characters and the book progresses through their eyes.
The timeline moves between before, during and after the solstice and you need to take note at the beginning of each section so you know whose POV it is and when it is taking place.
The police are involved when a body is discovered but we do not know who it is until much later. which adds to the suspense. Everyone seems to be hiding something, whether from the present day or from the events of 15 years ago which we learn about through the pages of a teenage summer journal written at the time.
So it is a book full of secrets and grudges, folklore and justice with the added tension of never being quite sure who to trust and who is telling the whole truth, although it is clear who is the main person you should not trust under any circumstances.

This was my first Lucy Foley book and after wanting to read one of her books for a long time, but not getting around to it in the myriad of wonderful books I was so glad when my request to arc read this book was approved.
I went in without any expectations and I loved every minute of it, couldn’t put it down. The multiple POV gave a lot of insight into each of the characters story, but also their personality. And the dual timeline, while a little confusing at first really gave the story more depth and it is executed so well. The plot is interesting, and there are twists and turns throughout. I did start to guess the different reveals in the last part of the book, but it was still highly entertaining.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

With a great plot and secrets aplenty, it’s hard to put this book down. It just sucks you in and you need to find out what’s happening in the present and what happened in the past! Really enjoyed this one, highly recommend. Thank you #netgalley

I love Lucy Foleys previous books so was desperate to read this one and it didn’t disappoint.
As always great characters and lots of twists and turns to keep the book interesting, fast paced and easy to read.
Loved it

Thank you Netgalley, Harper collins audio and Lucy Foley for the audio arc of The Midnight Feast.
Narrated by Roly Botha; Laurence Dobiesz; Joe Eyre; Tuppence Middleton; Sarah Slimani
I have heard in my reading circles that Lucy Foley has written some great books, so I was excited to be accepted for The Midnight Feast.
This book is told from multiple POV in first person. I find books like this very immersive, especially when it's an audiobook.. The narrators Narrated by Roly Botha; Laurence Dobiesz; Joe Eyre; Tuppence Middleton and Sarah Slimani each had character of their own which made them pop right out of the book for me and made each MC distinguishable. All of them have great voices and were well chosen for their characters
The premise of the book is told on 2 timelines, in the past when the MC's were younger and present day, which is set as the celebrations of a new Manor Hotel is being opened, Both timelines are well defined and each memory from the past is clear from which MC. This is great because their backstories build their characters in such a way that it's easy to bond with them, whether you like to dislike them or you suss out whether they are unreliable or not. There is also a nice twist of folklore elements to this narrative and because it wasn't overdone, added a nice creepy atmosphere to the whole story. I enjoyed the whole book, its well paced and balanced with these elements worked very well. Im looking forward to picking up more of her books in the future,
4.5 stars rounded to 5 for Netgalley/Amazon/Waterstones

A real page turner full of the best kind of unlikeable characters, a great setting, a touch of folklore and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing til the end. I couldn't put it down.

Another great story by Lucy!
Beautiful storytelling, addicting story and full of plots and twist.
This thriller was very cinematic and full of sudden twists, I really enjoyed the characters and the development of the story.
So many unexpected event and Lucy is a master at keeping the tension high! I would totally recommend this book, a great read.
Thanks to the publisher and to the author for my gifted ARC.

Secrets never stay buried, so when Bella receives an ad for the grand opening of The Manor she books a space. So many dark secrets from her past are kept at the manor and she feels she must right a wrong. Upon arriving things seem different but she knows it hasn't really changed.
I enjoyed the fast paced story of how the past can catch up to you. The characters were perfect for the story and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. It was tense, with a bit of superstition thrown in to stir things up. Would recommend and want to thank Netgalley, Harper Collins and Lucy Foley for the chance to read and review this amazing suspenseful read.

Another cracking story from the pen of Lucy Foley. A thriller with a difference lacing the psychological with mystical local folklore. On the Dorsey coast The Manor has just opened its doors. Owned by wealthy Francesca Meadows she has turned a mansion into a modern hotel for the wealthy offering a relaxed vibe with wellness top of the agenda. Her special treat will be the midnight feast to celebrate the Solstice. Told from multiple POV’s we discover what happened in the past, largely in the form of diary entries, and how it is affecting the present. Compelling stuff.
Briefly, as the staff and guests come together for the opening we meet a diverse group of characters, all of whom seem to be hiding secrets and as the celebrations start a body is found. And what do the crows in the woods have to do with it? Is it just folklore or are ‘the birds’ seeking revenge for the past?
This is a group of well fleshed characters with connections between some of them that are so well hidden. The tension is palpable as the author weaves an intricate web of secrets and relationships and there are quite a number of reveals which hit you - bam, bam, bam! A gripping storyline, tense and engrossing this was a superb read.
