I thought the concept of this book sounded lovely, so I decided to take a look at it.

It really sparked joy to read this, as I found it very heartwarming and uplifting. It was full of words of wisdom, and I was surprised by how much Stanley inspired me. It has meditation exercises to try, and some journalling too. I felt as though I could take something away from reading a book like this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.

With a focus for myself of self-care this year, I was intrigued by the topic this advance copy of Meditations on Being Amazing by Annie Percik and Stanley Park covered. Thanks @NetGalley for the advanced copy. If you are looking for a quick read that inspires you to take action in a way that does not feel overwhelming, this is your book! This is a great book for those who are new to meditation and wanting to focus on self-care. The book provides short, inspirational activities that are quick and easy to execute which is the foundation of my 4-star rating.

For the book itself, it is written in the voice of a stuffed teddy bear in parts, while other parts felt as if they were in the voice of the author. Then there are a short essay written by other people in each chapter. I found it confusing and frankly, a little silly with very basic language making it feel more like a children's book to me. The links, journal prompts and resources were very helpful and I believe spur the reader to action, which is what matters most.

Thank you NetGalley & Troubador for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. This was definitely the first book that I have read as an adult, that was from the perspective of a bear. I found it a little strange in the beginning, but once I got past that & just focused on the concepts of the book, I found that the book flew by.

As someone who personally struggles with an anxiety disorder & practices meditation & yoga on a daily basis, I found a lot of the information very relatable.

Three of the biggest things that I took away from the book are:
It is okay to fail!
Treat yourself well & you will be able to treat others well.
Self-care doesn’t need to take up a lot of time in your day.

Thoughts:
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It definitely felt a little weird being spoken to by a bear. Some of the elements discussed I already knew and enjoy practicing such as the body scan but I was also introduced to new ones such as RAIN (Recognise Accept Investigate Nurture). Stanley’s words of the day spread throughout the book are cute and are even better once I read their origins, and the images accompanying them gave me a warm and homey feel. Having the hyperlinks such as to the meditation teacher were great for further learning and having what would Stanley do journal prompts as well as the extra ones at the end were a great way to apply the concepts.
