The Best Laid Plans..
The next outing in the Oscar and Armstrong series of cosy mysteries finds our intrepid investigator and trusty sidekick at a villa on the outskirts of Pisa. Dan is fully anticipating a quick and easy assignment, simply providing some on site security, but as we all know the best paid plans so often go awry. As the rich and famous mingle in luxury, a murder is committed. Let the investigations commence! Another enjoyable and entertaining mystery with a deftly drawn cast, a well imagined and beautiful setting and an engaging plot.
On the blog tour. Another enjoyable book in this series - love the humour and Oscar the dog. Great mix of Murder, characters, secrets and the location of Pisa
This was another fun read from T A Williams.
I really like the character of retired D I Dan Armstrong and Oscar develops more personality with each adventure. The setting as always was a huge part of this book and we see the city of Pisa from packed streets and car parks to the glory of the tower and duomo. We are also treated to some delicious hunger inducing descriptions of meals.
The mystery followed the usual path of a murder occurring and Dan being on hand to help with the investigation. I enjoyed the cast of characters that were assembled in the Villa and the way that the mystery played out.
While this was still a really enjoyable read, I felt that it was a bit less well written than usual. The character of the local inspector seemed almost to be a caricature and I certainly don’t feel that the Italian police would have agreed to Dan’s plan to unmask the killer. I will still be eagerly waiting to see what lies in store for Dan and Oscar though.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Boldwood Books for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another awesome cozy mystery in this series. It just keeps getting better and better. Love the characters, especially the four legged one!, the setting is always so beautiful, and the plot has just enough twists to keep it interesting., Highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Another fun outing with former police detective Dan Armstrong and Oscar, his Labrador retriever. This time, we're in Pisa at a villa that's hosting a super-secret business meeting. Dan is hired to ensure business and the media stay away but, of course, gets involved when one of the guests is murdered. Oscar plays a more important role in this entry in the series, lending comfort (and seeking bacon as often as possible), while Dan uses his language skills and detective instincts to show up to the local police.
The mystery is fun, but TA Williams's lovely description of food and surroundings makes this series sing — it's like being in Italy!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC.
I'm so pleased to be back with Dan Armstrong and his labrador,.Oscar, who seem to have found themselves involved in a murder investigation once more. Once again, the aspects of Dan's personality that I love come to the fore in Murder At The Leaning Tower: his determination, compassion and intelligence, alongside Oscar's wonderful ability to read people and their needs and emotions. I really rooted for them to get to the bottom of the mystery, especially in the face of an unhelpful detective.
As with all TA Williams’ novels, the description is simply wonderful. I've never been to Italy, but I love how the author's words can transport me there and allow me to visualise the different landmarks and surroundings. I was totally immersed in this novel as I was reading.
We catch up with Dan and Oscar at a top secret business conference and Pisa, where Dan is asked to provide security. This means there are a lot of suspects for Dan to interview and so the beginning of the novel moves quite slowly, but this gives time for us to get to know and I love how TA Williams introduces the reader to them all with very well worked back stories so we can try and solve the puzzle ourselves. I also enjoyed the red herrings that the author places expertly along the way.
As always, I'm rubbish at guessing the endings of mysteries, but I felt that the conclusion of Murder At The Leaning Tower was much more tense than in previous instalments and I enjoyed this aspect of the story.
I hope that Dan and Oscar will be returning soon!
