Thank you @rararesources and @GemmaRodgers79 for letting me be part if this tour and reviewing this book. The Good Wife is psychological thriller gener. I really enjoyed reading this book. It hooked me from the first paragraph. The story is about Chloe who has controlling husband and is not happy and meets Savannah who she hires to help her. The twists are brilliant and did not see them coming. I hated Tom and was not sure on Savannah but I did change my mind half way through but I felt sorry for Chole. Theres a good ampunt of tension running through the book. The Good wife is definitely worth a read, loved it, could not put it down. 5 stars.

The good wife - It had a lot of tension all the way though and I couldn’t wait to find out the outcome . I’ve always loved this author but this book was one of her best . I would definitely recommend it to my friends and followers. 5 stars from me , I can’t wait for the next book from her

I’d give this super slow paced thriller(?) a solid 2.5 ⭐️….definitely not a page turner. The main characters were unlikeable and often made it difficult to finish the book. There were so many unnecessary details that prolonged the book. All the details failed to provide an interesting plot. I dreaded Chloe and Tom’s POV chapters…they just kept getting worse and more predictable.

I’ve enjoyed previous books by the author…but this one wasn’t for me. I would not recommended this book to others….maybe the audiobook version would be better 🤷‍♀️

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the gifted ARC…as all opinions are my own.

The Good Wife by Gemma Rogers

Can Chloe get away?

Tom and Chloe look like the perfect couple. But are they?

Secrets and lies and abuse are masked by their facade of happiness they present to the world.

In the beginning it was a whirlwind affair and quick marriage but three years into it, Chloe has had enough.

Enough of being abused, hit, controlled and having everything monitered including 10 bites of food.

As a former abused woman, reading what Chloe went through was hard, but necessary to the story.
Remembering how isolated I became, when my own family was a main reason I ran to this man.....but anyway, victims/survivors are isolated in order for their abuser to gain more control.

Chloe has reacher her limit and sees an escape perhaps.

At a work function Tom wins a lottery, and a mistress.

Chloe hatches a plan, to get the mistress to possibly take her place.

From this point the story takes off and many things happen which I can't share.

I will say I was intrigued and invested enough to see if Chloe would get out or not.

I hate to say I enjoyed the story but I couldn't put it down, I had to find out how it ended.

So that sad, warnings here abuse mentioned, sex mentioned and explicit sexual conduct happened in this story, if these things bother the reader, then skip this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Chloe and Tom have been married for 3 years and seemed to live a happy life. Tom starts to become more and more controlling, he picks out Chloe's clothes for her, won't let her work, won't let her see her friends and monitors everything she does and everywhere she goes. Then one night at a staff function Tom holds the lucky ticket and wins the big prize. He wins $5,000 but he also wins Savannah. Eventually Chloe finds out about Savannah and instead of being furious with her she comes up with her own little plan to hopefully get Savannah to help her leave this prison of a marriage once and for all. Loved this book and look forward to reading many more by this Author!!!! The twist was great too!!

"The Good Wife" promises a thrilling domestic suspense however it fell short of the empowering story I was hoping for. While I thought Gemma Rogers did a good job portraying Tom's character, the execution of Cloe's escape plan was hard for me to buy into and lacked that sense of dread needed to propel the story forward. In today's heightened awareness surrounding domestic abuse, some actions and motivations of the characters were hard to buy into.

Despite these shortcomings, I thought the story offered moments of intrigue, which had me click the pages to see how it all turned out for Cloe.

I have to admit, I didn’t really get into this one until around the 40% mark. It started off really slow, but then once it picked up I was hooked!

Thank you to NetGalley, Gemma Rogers, and Boldwood Books for an ARC copy of "The Good Wife".

"The Good Wife" delves into the dark and intricate web of a controlling and abusive marriage.

The story portrays the psychological toll of such a toxic relationship, highlighting the isolation and despair felt by Chloe as she is cut off from her loved ones and denied the opportunity to pursue her interests. Tom controls every facet of her existence, dictating her hairstyle, wardrobe choices, social interactions, and daily routines. Chloe finds a glimmer of hope in an unexpected encounter with Savannah that opens up the possibility of freedom.

If you're looking for a compelling psychological thriller with compelling characters, I recommend adding this to your reading list.

Very twisty, but could have been a bit shorter because it seemed to drag on a bit much in places. Definitely needs trigger warnings for domestic violence.

Oh Wow this book is so powerful and I genuinely think it is unforgettable. I was obsessed with this book and loved the fact the ending is so unpredictable, this twists and turns were perfectly plotted to keep you guessing and trying to figure out the ending. I loved both Chloe and Savannah, they were so different and I love the fact they were portrayed as strong women even if they didnt feel it. I would never have guessed the outcome but I loved that I genuinely couldn't read it fast enough. I don't want to say too much as it may risk spoiling this wonderful book. I will say if you like a powerful domestic thriller that will take your breath away then this is perfect. #thegoodwife #gemmarogers #domesticthriller #boldwood #netgalley

The Good Wife is a suspenseful and compelling domestic thriller.
Chloe and Tom have been married for 3 years after a 3 month whirlwind romance. As the years have progressed Chloe is increasingly isolated in her marriage. Tom controls everything: he selects the clothes she is going to wear each morning, gives her a list of chores she has to complete before he returns home. Not only does he decide what she eats but she can only take 10 bites from each meal.
Tom has just been promoted at work and at an evening work event Chloe meets the stunningly beautiful Savannah.
Told in 3 POV characters, Chloe, Tom and Savannah this novel will hook you from the beginning.
The author manages to convey the plight of Chloe with great delicacy and sympathy. All the characters are well drawn and the pacing is perfect. The plot moves quickly and has several twists and turns that will keep you guessing.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

Gemma Rogers has written numerous psychological thrillers, and I have thoroughly enjoyed everyone. The Good Wife exceeded every expectation I have for a book by this author. Yes, it was that good.

Told from multiple points of view, Chloe, Tom, her husband, and Savannah. Chloe is totally and utterly controlled by Tom. Gemma Rogers writes this so well that I felt like my heart could break for Chloe as I read. In the past, I have worked with domestic violence victims, and this book took me right back to that time so easily.

After meeting Chloe, Savannah decides to attempt to help her escape. As a character, Savannah is the unknown quantity, and that added an extra edge to the story. I wasn't overly sure of her, although I quite liked her.

The characters absolutely made this story. All well fleshed out and, whether good or bad,.they all had me curious how this would work out. I have to say I couldn't stop reading until I closed the book. The amount of guesses I made and got wrong along the way created a perfect storm for me. The fact that this author can still leave me guessing so wildly with the unpredictability of the story tells me enough.

I almost inhaled this book. I read it so fast. The pages sped by, and before I knew it, I was finished. Memorable characters with a tight plot and enough tension to keep me on my feet. Gemma Rogers has knocked it out of the park with The Good Wife. I am truly looking forward to her next release!
Thanks to Boldwood Books, Rachel's Random Resources and NetGalley.

I have read other books by Gemma Rogers and liked them a lot. This one is not one of the author's best in my opinion. But don't let that stop you as many other readers have loved this book.

The characters:
Tom: controlling husband
Chloe: Tom's trapped wife.
Savannah: glamorous paid companion

Chloe comes up with a plan to get away from Tom. But will it work?

I liked the premise of the story. I loved to hate the characters.

I didn't like how long it took for anything real to happen. I also didn't like the lose ends that weren't tied up to my satisfaction.

Thanks to netgalley and Boldwood Bokks for the arc.

Chloe, 26, has been married to Tom Beswick, 36, for 3 years. When she first met him, she was enthralled and they had a quick marriage. Now, he has moved her far away from her family and friends. He insists she doesn’t need to work. She is to stay home and keep their house immaculate, always being at his beck and call. He controls everything she does from chasing her clothes, how she wears her hair and only allowing her ten mouthfuls of food at a meal. She runs to keep her stress down and now she is quite thin. Tom wants her to get pregnant but she doesn’t want to have a baby with him. She just wants to get away from him but he has told her the only way she will leave will be in a box.

When they attend a business dinner with the directors at his office, she sees that he meets a beautiful woman named Savannah and she realizes that he won a “lottery” where the prize is cash and sex with the woman who is a professional escort. Tom becomes entranced with the woman and wants to be with her as often as he can afford it.

Although Chloe has no money of her own, she meets with Savannah hoping she can help Chloe get away from Tom by getting him to fall in love with him. She agrees and the race is on.

Oh my goodness. Are there truly nasty men like Tom out there? He is just a vicious jerk and needs to simply explode. Ugh. What a terrible waste of space and oxygen. This book is very good and hope it can prove to be a lesson to young women to keep themselves free of controlling men.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Good Wife' by Gemma Rogers.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Gemma Rogers, Boldwood, Book & Tonic, Bold Book Club and Rachel's Random Book Tours .

Publication date 5th March 2024

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read 'The Flatmate' which I would also highly recommend.

This novel consists of 105 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

'The Good Wife' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Gemma discusses adultery, manipulation and domestic abuse.

Absolutely loved this fast paced, gritty and unputdownable psychological thriller filled with emotions and secrets!!!

This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all making your heart pound and you constantly second guessing.

Another huge success by the fantastic Gemma!!! This book had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!! Every time I said one more chapter it ended on a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was going on!!! This kept on happened over and over until before I knew it I had devoured the whole book in one sitting!! If you are going to read this then clear your day because it is truly unputdownable. I started this this morning and finished it at approx 2pm, reading it in one sitting. This book tells the story of Chloe who is fed up off her husband's controlling ways. When Chloe finds a possible way to escape her husband with the help of Savannah she grabs the opportunity and hopes for the best. However, things never are as simple as they seem and with an addictive gripping storyline filled with blackmail, adultery, the rich, an escort, suspense, abuse, tension and an ending you wont see coming this is one book to sink your teeth into!! Gemma weaves this fantastic and unique storyline perfectly taking the reader on a rollercoaster ride through the eyes of Chloe, Tom and Savannah ensuring they can see and feel everything that each of them are doing. Will Chloe be able to escape Toms clutches? Will Savannah be able to escape her current life? Will Tom get what he wants? Well, grab your copy of this action packed suspense filled page turner now to find out!! The ending left me mind blown and still not 100% on who did what which has left me still thinking about it hours after I put the book down which is definitely a sign of a fantastic author!! It is ram packed with twists, turns and surprises you'll never see coming. I definitely didn't and I have read hundreds of crime and psychological books so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Gemma!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you managed it in this successful, chilling and page turning psychological thriller!!! Gemma's fantastic and evocative writing skills ensures you are sucked into the lives of the characters feeling your heart pounding and the hair on your arms raise. This book is rammed with suspense and tension and will keep you biting your nails, on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding while your flipping the pages because you just cant stop. I loved the fantastic ending that left me wanting to pick up more of Gemma's books and get stuck straight in.

Clear your schedules before sinking your teeth into this epic thriller as once you've started you wont be able to stop turning the pages until you've devoured it in one sitting!

The authors evocative writing skills brings each of the characters to life and leaves you feeling that you are standing next to them as their story unfolds and lives start to tumble around them. Each of the characters were realistic, unique, well rounded and strong characters which makes it a realistic read. Gemma uses multiple protagonists so we get to see the story told through the eyes of Chloe, her husband Tom and Savannah. Gemma does an absolutely amazing job of weaving their storylines together ensuring it is a smooth read while making sure the reader gets to see everything that the main characters are doing and how they are feeling, up until a certain point. I absolutely despised Tom who is a chauvinistic, disgusting, abusive piece of …. well, I'm sure you can get my drift without me getting myself banned from sites for using certain word! He absolutely made my skin crawl and I despised him!! My heart went out to Chloe and my heart broke for her. Unless you have been in that position then it is easy for people to say to just leave but it is not always that easy. i was rooting for her from the start. I also really liked Savannah who was just trying to get through her studies through means that she knows. Again, many people would despise what Savannah is/does but at the end of the day she is single and does not make anyone do anything they do not want to. I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't a fan of her immediately with her attitude towards Chloe on their first meeting but she grew on me and I came to like and respect her. Chloe is such a relatable character and I really hoped both herself, her friend Anita and Savannah would each get their happy endings. Whether they do or not, well I cant tell you that can I? There were many more characters weaved into the storyline and I must admit many of them were unlikeable from the rich and snobby housewives to the disgusting cheating men. I normally struggle to get into books where there are so many despicable characters but Gemma creates such an amazing storyline with these characters that I love to hate them and I loved the book from beginning to end! I don't want to risk saying more about how I felt about the characters as I don't want to give anything away to future readers but I will say that I was annoyed, angry, upset, disappointed, disgusted, pleased and more at the different ones for many different reasons!! Gemma really does bring the characters emotions to life and feeds them directly to the reader with her fantastic writing skills. Regardless of whether you love them or hate them they each played their parts perfectly!!!

Congratulations Gemma on yet another addictive, chilling, page turning psychological thriller with an ending I did not see coming! i cannot wait to get hooked into your next guaranteed page turner!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue of Gemma's 'The Flatmate' which I have actually read myself and would highly recommend!!

Overall an addictive and gripping emotional rollercoaster of secrets, family, suspense, tension and everything you could want in a gripping thriller!!

356 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £9.99 in paperback via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I was totally addicted to The Good Wife, I couldn't stop reading but unfortunately the ending spoilt this for me, it literally went nowhere, too many loose ends, red herrings and no real plot twists (or did I miss something?). Trigger warning: smutty + abusive relationship with a violent husband (it made me livid to read about it but still it reminds everyone that we should live at the first red flag).
