Great characters often embody a complex interplay of traits, and a gritty, narcissistic husband can add layers of tension and depth to a story. Such a character might be captivating in his complexity, simultaneously drawing readers in with his charm while repelling them with his self-centered behavior. His flaws can drive the narrative forward, creating conflicts that challenge both himself and those around him, ultimately revealing the depths of human nature and the consequences of unchecked ego.

My first book from this author, and it definitely won't be my last! Chloe tries very hard to be a good wife, but when you're married to a narcissistic sociopath like Tom, your best is never good enough. The level of control he levied over her was truly awful. She wasn't allowed to have a phone, there were cameras all over the house, and my personal favorite, she was only allowed ten bites of food per meal. Chloe realizes that she's trapped, but she has no way to get out.

Then she attends a company party with Tom, and he wins the annual 'lottery', which is a bonus check and another bonus...the company of femme fatale Savannah. When Tom starts to fall for his new mistress, Chloe finds an unlikely ally in this woman as the two scheme to help Chloe leave Tom.

This was one wild thriller, and I couldn't read fast enough! My only gripe was that I found the ending to be a little too abrupt, but that was a minor annoyance. I'll be digging through this author's backlist for sure. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this early copy. This title will release March 5, 2024.

Gemma Rogers does it again ..... I always know im in for a rollercoaster of a read, when i pick up one of this authors books.. Tom and chloe seem to have the perfect marriage, but do they? When tom is promoted indide his firm to a director they are invited to his bosses house for a dinner gathering . When they arrive they are given a raffle ticket, but what is it for??
Savannah is a high end escort and has slept with most of the men that attend these dinner parties.. chloe is the dutiful wife.... yes tom.......no tom. ....he controls everything in her life and has cameras around the house to see what she is doing..... when tom becomes smitten with savannah after winning the raffle, chloe sees a way out. Would it work?? Chloe enrolls the help of savannah but will she play her part??? This is a great book, it kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering would she?? Wouldnt she???
Will tom get what he deserves????

***TRIGGER WARNING: Lots of sex, actual and implied. Some bad language, extreme control and manipulation. ***

After having loved Gemma's previous thrillers, The Teacher, The Babysitter, The Neighbour and The Flatmate, I was really looking forward to a new thriller by her.

The Good Wife got right to where the action was, by introducing Savannah and Chloe. I admit, not much happened until around chapter 22. Maybe this was intentional to show how sheltered life was for Chloe. If it was, it was the right tactic, and well done.

Gemma Rogers goes deep into their life and the level of control Tom has over Chloe is absolutely terrifying: controlling how much she eats, what she does and wears.

I immediately disliked Tom and, more than once, thought he was highly manipulative, dangerous and downright evil. I found myself scared of him. I was proud of Chloe for trying to get away from him.

I felt uneasy, nervous, scared, hopeful, and utterly gripped by my concern for Chloe. I so wanted her to be less submissive earlier on though, and fight for herself more. I was concerned for what bad consequence that would have for her, given how highly unpredicatable Tom was.

I wanted Chloe to be helped by Savannah, and was thinking "Will she be, or won't she?" I didn't want her to be let down and knew she had to get out of there.

The Good wife is SO twisty and full of suspense. I definitely could not trust Tom, and I was undecided about Savannah, especially given her connection to Tom (his escort).

Thanks to Gemma Rogers, Bolldwood Books and Rachel's Random Reesources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

4.5 stars.

The continuous twists and turns in this suspenseful thriller made it hard to put down! I found it to be a quick read. Even though I felt the ending left a few unanswered questions, I would still recommend this fast-paced book!

I absolutely devoured this book. I loved everything about it. It just pulls you right in and doesn't let go till the very last page. Excellent well written characters and everything is finalized at the end of the story. Definitely all the stars from me.

Thank you Netgalley, Gemma Rogers and Boldwood Books for the eArc of The Good Wife.

I have listened to a fair few of Gemma Rogers books in the past so I leapt at the chance to read this one. Gemma has a tendency to build her characters well within her storylines. They always feel very real. The Good Wife is no exception. This narrative is told by 3 POV, all first person. Tom, a high achiever who will do anything to get where he needs to be in the corporate company he works for. Chloe, his wife who was swept away by his charm, charisma. and he ability to provide. And Savannah, a beautiful women who attends meals and parties of Toms boss and current CEO.

It's clear from early on, the relationship between Chloe and Tom is far from perfect, He controls her, breaks her down and the rule of 10 comes into play in so many ways. I can see that for anyone who has been in any sort of coercive, controlling relationship could be triggered. Gemmas writing makes their marriage dangerous, claustrophobic and all I wanted to do was reach into the story and yank Chloe to safety!

As Tom's control becomes vicelike, Chloe hatches a plan to make her escape. Will she leave in one piece?

This is one of the best Gemma Rogers books Ive read so far. It's raw in places, the characters and dynamics are believable and well written and I devoured it in one day!

5 Star !

My husband Tom is always watching, controlling my every move. He chooses my clothes, my hairstyle, even what and how much I'm allowed to eat - just ten mouthfuls. I've become isolated from those I love, forbidden to work and stuck at home to fulfil his every whim. My identity along with my life is long gone. I am slowly suffocating, But I know Tom will never, ever let me leave. But a chance encounter with Savanah changes everything. Tom just couldn't tear his eyes away from her. I hoped she might be my saviour. What if I asked her for help? Paid her to steal my husband away? Could my husband's desire for another woman be the answer to my prayers, to my freedom?

What a sheltered life Cloe has to live, Her husband is a control freak, picking out her clothes to wear, how she styles her hair, she's not allowed a mobile phone, she has no friends. I immediately disliked Tom, he's evil and manipulative. Once I knew what Tom was like, I was scared for Chloe. When Chloe meets Savanah to ask for her help, my stomach was churning for her. There is quite a lot of descriptive sex, especially in the first half of the book. The story is told from Tom, Chloe, and Savanah's perspective. This is one twisted read, and I could not put it down.

Just wow! Gemma Rogers does it again! She knocks another one out of the park. This was a fantastic look into the darker side of life. I loved the characters and what each one brought to the β€˜table’. A web of secrets, lies and deception woven into a brilliant thriller. Lots of creepy and cringe worthy behaviors. Totally loved it.

What a story, a psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes till the very end.

Thank you to NetGalley uk and boldwood books for letting me read this.

There is a lot of violence and manipulation in this book, I hated Tom with a vengeance and just wanted Chloe to be ok.

No spoilers from me, Gemma is a fantastic author and her other books are definitely worth a read

Wow. I could not, would not put this book down … There are so many twists and turns to this story… A must-read for those who love thrillers with so many turns, you have no idea where you are.

This book is certainly a page-turner. Some aspects are quite unbelievable, such as Chloe not being able to find a way out even though she knows that she is about to get murdered. Also, we never learn who the attacker is. That said a truly riveting book.

Hooked me right from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Loved this book and the ending.

The Good Wife by Gemma Rogers pulled me in from the very start and did not let go. Carve out some uninterrupted time for yourself when you crack this one open as you will not be able to look away.

Chloe's marriage to Tom is one of control and abuse. Tom decides what Chloe wears, the amount she eats, and the distance she can travel from their somewhat isolated home. But a chance meeting at one of Tom's work dinners with escort Savannah offers Chloe an opportunity to escape Tom's clutches once and for all. The lovely Savannah has caught his eye, and it might just be the distraction that his wife needs to make her move.

This is a pacey thriller that kept me glued to the pages. Gemma Rogers is a relatively new author to me, and I will be adding all of her titles to my TBR immediately.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.

Oh my goodness what a book I have just read, I just love these domestic thrillers.

One of my favourite authors who never disappoints, a great storyline and what a horrible person Tom was

This was a definite page turner for me with lots going on and the ending was 'true desserts'.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this brilliant ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.

I think this is truly one of the best books I've ever read! Wow!! I stayed up until 3am last night reading it and finished it during work today because I just literally could not put it down. The abusive husband trope has been done many times but this was such a unique story and there were so many addictive layers to it. I don't think I've ever hated a character as much as I hated Tom but seeing the way everything played out was so satisfying. I would give this book 100 stars if I could!!

The synopsis is right, "appearances can be deceiving." But what is not deceiving is the brilliant writing and storytelling of Gemma Rogers. I found this book to be instantly gripping, hard to put down, well thought out and pure reading enjoyment. I love books that keep me on my toes, turning the pages and wanting to know what is going to happen next! Gemma Rogers delivered all of those things with [book:The Good Wife|201750747].

Chloe tries to follow the rules that her husband, Tom, has laid down. He picks out her clothing, how many bites she can take of her food, and when to get her hair done. He wants her to be a "good wife". But is he a good husband???

After a fateful meeting with a woman named Savanah in a restroom at her husband's company event, Chloe comes up with a plan! But will she be able to pull the plan off? I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen.

Gemma Rogers knocked it out of the ballpark with this book. I enjoyed the pacing, nothing felt rushed or drawn out. I also enjoyed the characters. I felt for Chloe and had a good time booing and hissing at the vile and controlling Tom. Rogers did a great job showing how Tom isolated and controlled Chloe, how he left her feeling trapped with no way. Rogers also did a brilliant job of showing Chloe's feelings of isolation, desperation, and the joy of having small wins.

Addictive, shocking, hard to put down and tense! I can’t wait to read what Gemma Rogers writes next!
