while François d'Épenous may appeal to readers who appreciate experimental narratives and literary ambiguity, "Les désossés" did not resonate with me personally.

To give this review some context, I was looking for a title in French to help me brush up on long forgotten language skills. It’s difficult to maintain language use without practice and it’s a few decades since I spoke or wrote regularly in French. This audio title is novella length and I thought it would be a great way to start improving.

I like the narration. Clear and as a non native French speaker, I found the spoken word easy to follow. The story is set in a posh chalet resort. It’s the closed room scenario where a huge storm isolates the guests. Then it turns into the proverbial ‘hell is other people’ story. There are secrets, lies and a mystery to solve. I haven’t finished it yet…. I’m working through in small bites with the aid of a dictionary. But most importantly, I’m enjoying the story and haven’t lost interest. I’m not the target audience, but for me, it really hits the spot. Thank you.
