I was a little concerned when I saw this title was listed as Romantic Suspense. I'm glad to say the romance was minimal and did not spoil the suspense. A good paced mystery with several strands made this a page turner. Not having read the first in the series did not impact on the story as any backstory on the characters was dealt with satisfactorily. Well developed characters.
Three and a half stars for me.

I’ve not read Karen Rose before, but will do so again as this was very good – albeit not gripping – and thanks to NetGalley for a proof copy. I did find the story a tad longwinded at times, nothing a good copy editor couldn’t improve, but good cast of characters, some interesting twists and turns, and liked the location and premise. The last 10% was more like it! The romantic interest with Kit & Sam were awkwardly tortuous – surely at their ages, they’d be more adult. Didn’t really believe it. Kit and her huge ‘family’ was brilliant to read and consider. Good to see some “oldies” in the cast list, with character! Can’t say I need the date and time etc at the start of every chapter but that’s a minor issue. Overall, a great read.

A brilliant story full of twists and turns, so much going on to keep you in suspense plus some really great friendships thrown in to add an extra something.

A murder mystery set in the Shady Oaks Retirement Village with the victim, Frankie Flynn - an ex cop.

I didn't enjoy this book as I felt it was too formulaic regarding police procedures. Kit and Sam are ok but the book is not up to Ms Roses's usual classy stuff. Romance was also limp.

I really enjoy anything written by Karen Rose. Thrillers that are fast paced with a great storyline and a little background tension for the detectives to keep them on their toes. This one is set in a retirement home and when one of the residents is murdered it’s down to Kit to find out who could do it and why. When it turns out the detective is a retired cop it opens new lines of enquiry.

I think that I have read and enjoyed almost every book that Karen Rose has written. This latest offering did not disappoint. Great characters and a gripping plot, what’s not to like. Recommend wholeheartedly.

A man is killed in Shady Oaks retirement complex, and Kit is drawn in to find the killer. However, there is much more going on - another resident dies, although his may be of natural causes, then the head of security at the complex is also found murdered.

Her love interest Dr Sam is at the home, playing the piano for the residents so he too is drawn into the investigation. Georgia and Eloise, feisty residents, were particularly fun and the loss of their friends was well handled.

The story is fairly slow moving, with far too much emphasis on the budding romance between Kit and Sam, about which I had zero interest. There was also a lot of made of Kit's past and her adoptive parents, which again didn't really bring much to the tale.

Overall a good, twisty plot, although several strands became obvious way before the characters spotted the links and the pace was very slow.

Interesting crime thriller. Well written and easy to read. Although second in a San Diego series it can be read as a stand alone as I did without any problem. Very well plotted complex story centred around a retirement and care home facility. Interesting well developed main characters. It was a little slow at times and a bit longer than necessary and the 'will they won't they' romance aspect too obvious and overdone. But still an enjoyable read and recommended. I love Karen Rose books and this is the 2nd book on this series, Kit and Sam are great together and it's brilliant to watch there relationship grow, while investigating deaths and stolen items in a care home. Highly recommended.

Second book in this San Diego series featuring the murder solving duo Kit and Connor. A fast paced un put downable story set in a retirement community, where ex police are being murdered, and we are also treated to the growing romance between Kit and Sam.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I will surely be reading more.

The plot being based within a residential assisted living complex was a great setting and the characters and their history were each very entertaining.

I enjoyed the dynamics between the two main characters and the story kept me hooked throughout. I was drawn in right from the start and was eager to see how the story unfolded which didn’t disappoint.

Greatly recommend this book and look forward to the next instalment.

In short, it’s six months since Homicide Detective Kit McKittrick was involved in stopping one of San Diego’s deadliest serial killers, now a high-ranking retired cop is found murdered in the Shady Oaks retirement centre and it soon becomes clear that there’s someone out there praying on the elderly.
I always look forward to reading books by the best selling author Karen Rose and Cheater is another enjoyable mystery. It wasn’t too difficult to work out the killer but that didn’t spoil the story, it was a thoroughly detailed investigation with twists and turns as expected. Obviously, part of the story picked up and continued with Kit & Sam’s painfully vulnerable relationship which is a tad cheesy at times…maybe the next case file book will bring a bit of healthy clarity and I’m looking forward to finding out!

I'm very happy to be back with Kit and Sam. Although I wish their 'relationship' would hurry up and move on to an <i/>actual<i> relationship!

The murder was good, the case moved along well, pacing as usual was perfect for the size of the book. And I really enjoyed getting more of Connor - Kit's new partner - he is very sweet.

All in all a good installment in the series, and I look forward to the next.

There are some brilliant plot twists within the story but if you are wanting what the book describes as an romantic suspense thriller then you will be disappointed with the lack of romance.

An engaging mystery but different from the Karen Rose books I’m used to. A slow burn focusing on a murder in a retirement village. Felt more Agatha Christie than usual. The tension between Kit and Sam was building underneath and I’m hoping for great things in book 3.

This is the second book in the San Diego series featuring Homicide Detective Kit Mckittrick and Dr Sam Reeves but can easily be read as a standalone. When you read a Karen Rose book you know what you’re getting, a good crime story with a slow burning romance and this one is no different. This is a really enjoyable read with some lovely characters.

I really enjoyed this one, book #2 in the San Diego Case Files series #Cheater. It’s a brilliant read. I couldn’t put it down.
The plot is full of intrigue, suspense and twists and turns with a few possible suspects, All to keep you guessing. It’s brilliantly detailed and flows well.
The characters are well developed and likeable. And described in a way to make them feel like real people. I loved the way the main characters home life is blended with the case. It adds depth to the story.
Overall, a brilliant read for mystery, crime, police procedural, romance, thriller fans. A guaranteed page turner. Definitely worth a read.
