I'm a huge fan of the American National Parks (and Monuments) and I've found that books and other merchandise for and about the Parks system is generally quite attractive and engaging. This is no exception.
The book is primarily a journal for logging and tracking the parks that you've been to. Each park (the book contains all of the parks in the National Parks system) is a two-page spread. the first page has a gorgeous retro-styled art for the park along with a quick debrief (location; size; established; etc) and a one paragraph description of the park. There is also a highlighted 'tips' section that are a bit more personal from the author (ie: "Don't miss the northern lights! For my Gates of the Arctic trip, I had dinner at ... and made friends with folks who promised me a northern lights wake-up call. The knock came at 2am...").

The second page of the spread is the journaling page (it is the same for all the parks). It's nicely made and manages to be both simple and comprehensive - space for flora & fauna, things you see on your hike(s), the weather, companions, and more. The downside would be that the space for each is pretty limited. (More than four plants and animals? Too bad. No place specific for birds.) Still, it's a great starting place and I'd guess that 80% of the people who actually use this won't need more than this. More serious journal-ers will use their own system.

There is also a space for the National Park Passport stamp, which is a really great idea. Although I own multiple National Park passports, it seems I never have them with me when I'm at a park and end up stamping a spare piece of paper.

The book is broken down by region and the start of each region includes a checklist of the parks in the region, a map.

There are more journaling pages at the back of the book, along with prompts (such as "What not to do on future park visits" and "Best conversations with park rangers") to round out the book and give the park journaler a few more opportunities to make notes on the parks.

This book is nicely made and really appeals to the average park-goer, but those who like journaling will find this especially appealing. I hope this will find its way into Parks' stores as I think it will be a strong park impulse buy.

(If you are looking for many details about each park, this is not the book you want.)

This is a great book! Obviously, it’s not something you just sit down and devour, but I loved how practical and actionable it is. I will definitely be using this to plan out my next NP adventure.

I'm on a mission to try to visit all the national parks (have made it to 33 so far), so I loved this. :]

It includes a blurb with general information on each park followed by an intro + tips on must-sees/how to optimize your time/visit the best spots in the park. The artwork is beautiful + it's followed by a section where you can write down when you visited, who you went with, how the weather was, your lodgings, a blank space for the free cancellation stamp(s) you can get at each park, which trail(s) you went on, what you saw on the trail, and what memorable moments you had.

This is perfect for memory-keeping + for anyone who loves nature + the outdoors/our national parks -- great for both kids + adults alike!

the illustrations, the format, everything... this book was so so cute! i loved adding little extra things like the 'travel tips' section and the easy-to-read map of all 63 national parks. i do not know a lot about traveling but as someone about to graduate college, i want the opportunity to see new things and this book helped me learn about different natural wonders all around the US. i also love the chance to rate and review different national parks like i do with the books i read. i also LOVED the bucket list specific travel tips, where i got a chance to get a more personal recommendation from the author. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to travel and i am for sure going to buy the physical copy so i can record my own thoughts on these wonderful nature views!

This is a very usable functional book that allows the user to record their observations and notes for each of the parks with numerous lists available to complete for yourself such as favorite conversations with park rangers, favorite small parks, top ten bucket list of parks to visit (the author includes her own list there as an example and fun comparison to what you the reader may enter for your list), even a place to note what not to do on future park visits, plus other usable places to make your own notes. Tips are given for each park that help plan your visit. An overall map of the US shows parks by state and then each region of the US has it's own map with the parks marked along with a description of the area. This is followed by a two-page spread for each park; description and tips with a page for your records including a spot for the park stamp, your notes of various topics, your rating and whether you're planning to return. If I were planning to visit a large number of these parks I would find this very useful in planning and recording my trips. Visually I would rather have seen actual photos of the parks rather than the illustrations that are used. Perhaps other versions could be of parks for just one region each, which would include all public parks which I would find even more useful, allowing me choose and record my visits with just one book. But this book is about and titled "National Parks" and I found it well written, educational, interesting and useful. This would be a nice present for someone who is planning on going to more than one National Park site and wants to journal about it. It includes information about nature that will catch people's attention thanks to the drawings. One of my biggest problems with items like these, though, is that they ignore the rest of the system. There are 427 units in the National Park Service and each one has unique value and interest.

This was a cute national parks journal. It’s not particularly different from many others I’ve seen, but still fun nonetheless. I liked how the parks were separated into groups. I also liked that you could include a picture from your park visit. I was hoping that the journal would include bucket list ideas for each please. I think that would have set it apart from others I’ve seen.

probably 3.5 stars. This was a good concise guide with some good tips however I do not think that there is anything that makes this book unique from other national park guides.

I enjoyed previewing this colorful guidebook/ journal covering the major national parks of the United States and its territories. Each park is featured on a two-page spread with a stylized drawing related to the park, an overview and a few expert tips for planning your visit to the park, and space for notes and observations upon arriving. For the ardent national park visitor, the volume can become a keepsake record to treasure.

I liked the concept of this, with a paged for each of the parks, it gives you a way of recording key elements of your visit to them. It would provide a aid memoire to the parks that I have already done and a prompt to others that I have yet to visit.
What might be also included is space for images as it could be useful to save your favourite photo of the area too.

As an amateur National Park explorer, this was a delight to read! It's a great way to record your experiences and make some memories along the way. Journal all you can to preserve your memories!

We’ve seen tons of National Park books, guides, journals, etc. so what makes this one special?? The clever two page spread dedicated to each individual National Park. One page contains lovely NPS inspired graphics with easy to read and digest blurbs about the particular park and the author’s own experience and tips for the place. The second page is the journal layout where you can get a NPS passport stamp and you can share your favorite hikes, flora or fauna. There’s even a star rating chart to leave your final rating.

This is a great journal to take along and capture your important memories of the National Parks you end up visiting. I’ve only been to a couple so far and likely won’t get to see all of them in my lifetime (American Samoa may be a bit tricky!), but I’m definitely getting a physical copy of this journal and try my hardest to hit as many as possible!

I love the all green cover and can’t wait to see and feel what the physical copy is like!

This is a fantastic journal, even for someone who isn’t at all outdoorsy, like me (though I am definitely the journaling type). I loved the illustrations and design, and the introductory information for the whole book, each geographic region, and then each park are really helpful and insightful—as are the tips and resources. I’ve only visited three of the parks, but there are several more that I want to see. I’ll have to pick up a hard copy of this journal to keep track! I only wish that there was a space in each park section to stick a photo from your visit.

This journal is stunning and I really hope there will be one for the hikes and mountain ranges in NH!

I am in the UK, but adore the natural world of the US. I have only travellled to NH so far but have my eyes on the parks of the Pacific North West, but looking through this beautiful journal, how can I stop there? Full of fantastic illustrations, facts and maps, with detailed information on each of the parks, this is a great book for your travels. I really like the colour coded map and the layout of the journal pages with concise journal prompts

This guide is incredibly handy and I love the spots to journal about each park. It's definitely a resource that will make you want to visit each and every park as soon as possible. I really liked that the artwork within the book are similar to the style we're accustomed to seeing associated with the national parks.

I have visited several of these already and the tips were things I weren't aware of and make me want to revisit the parks. Not having received a physical copy, I'm hoping when this comes out it's pocket sized and is something I will definitely purchase for myself.
