eARC - thank you netgalley, Amy Boyles, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op

In this cozy RomCom with fantasy characters (witches/wizards, fae with humans) set in modern USA, we have a sunshiney bookish FMC (witch) who needs to marry for her family to hold onto their magic. Opposite her we have a grumpy fae king who has a secret vendetta to enact upon a family in town. When our main characters find themselves in a magically bound fake engagement they get more than they bargained for. There’s banter, tension, and fancy balls - dances. I have to say, I’m slightly concerned with how many times I had to remind myself what kind of balls were being talked about. 🤭

I love a cozy fantasy and/or RomCom read; I really love it when I get 2 in 1. This story has an added bonus of books being a theme throughout. It’s fun and funny. There was one part I wasn’t super into: consensual spice that felt coerced by forces out of their control; however, the characters didn’t seem bothered by it. As the reader I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Overall, this was a great low stakes read!

There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed. The magic bookshop where you can jump into the story sounded so fun and I wish we could have seen more of it. I’m also very intrigued by the Grandma.

I wasn’t a fan of the joining magic or having to marry off all the daughters in order to keep the magic.

I’m still undecided about if I’ll continue with the series but the epilogue was promising.

This enchanting fantasy romcom provided a delightful departure from more intricate fantasy and romantasy genres I've recently explored. In need of a respite from extensive world-building, this fast-paced read proved to be the perfect choice. The humorous banter between the main characters added a delightful touch, prompting genuine moments of laughter. Unexpectedly, the narrative concluded with a compelling cliffhanger. While the simplicity of the storyline and its entertainment value served as an effective palate cleanser, earning it a rating of 3.75 stars!! Excited to see more from this author.

This was a funny and quirky rom com filled with magic, fae, and references that made me laugh! I'm totally interested in the rest of the series.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Well, I certainly did and it definitely didn’t disappoint me.

I liked how the fantasy world was intertwined with the real world. There were gowns and royal balls but also jeans and Henry Cavill. The story was easy to follow and it was a very quick read for me (one day).

Addison and Feylin hate each other from the moment they lay eyes on each other, or do they? The chemistry between these two characters is crazy and the build up makes you craving for more. I love it when the main characters have a lot of fire in them and are very stubborn.

3.5 ⭐️
This was such a cute little fantasy romcom! I’ve been reading some really heavy fantasy/romantasy and needed a little break. My head couldn’t handle any more world building and this was the perfect, fast paced read I wanted. The banter between the two main characters were so funny and I couldn’t help myself laughing out loud at points. And I was in no way expecting that cliffhanger at the end! Amy! What were you thinking?? 😂😂 can’t wait to read the other stories that I’m sure will continue after this one. After all there are seven sister forced to get married sooner rather than later. 😏

This was absolutely fabulous. I loved it from start to finish, I couldn't put it down. The characters were so lovable and the story was great. I cannot wait for the next!

How to Fake it with a Fae follows Addison Thornrose, who is a witch with no magical powers and her tails of dating and her fake relationship with Feylin, who is the king of the Fae. Their story is a classic enemies to lovers tail but with a lot of funny moments across the book, making it a true rom com. This is a very modern tale, as it has a long of current lingo.

I loved that we did get some chapters from the POV of Feylin, I do love dual POV books but most of the book is single POV given by Addison.

If I had to describe this book I would say this is a rom com with a sprinkle of Fantasy, as it is very romance heavy. This book had a lot of funny moments, there were a lot of parts that I was laughing at Addison's thoughts.

When I requested this ARC I did not see that it will be a series but I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to see where the story will take us. I love the idea of each book focusing on a different sister.

Thank you to Ladybugbooks and Netgalley for this arc the above review is my own thoughts.

I enjoyed this book. It is a very light-hearted and quick read. It's good when you are looking for a book that isn't too heavy.

I really enjoyed the fake relationship and forced proximity. I liked the slow development of the relationship between Feylin and Addie.

I also liked the magic in this world. Who doesn't want a store where you can enter your favourite books? However, I felt like there could have been more information about the magic. The main premise of the book is that the family's magic is fading and the daughters marrying will help but it is never explained why. However, as such a light-hearted read I was willing to overlook this and this will possibly be explored in a future book in the series.

However, there were plot points in the last ~25% of the book that I just didn't personally like. I don't want to say any more and give spoilers. This is what stopped this book receiving 5 stars from me.

I am planning on continuing this series. It seems to be set up for a Bridgerton style series, where each book will follow a different sibling. I enjoyed the author's writing style and despite not liking some of the plot, I'll try out the next book.

I would recommend it for romantasy fans who are looking for a quick and gentle read.

This makes it on my list of favorite books, and I can't wait to read the future ones for Addison's sisters. Addison had a great and very entertaining voice with the perfect level of internal snark for being such a people pleaser with her family. Feylin was so interesting, although I would have liked to hear a little bit more about his family background aside from just having Ryals (who I loved and was adorable) around. The banter between Addison and Feylin was hilarious, and the many unfortunate events were so perfectly rom com. It definitely gave me Bridgerton vibes but with a twist of Disney's Encanto thrown in. My only complaint (which ending up being remedied in the plot) was that I feel like Feylin went a little far in the end while they were separated and didn't do nearly enough groveling to come back after it. But, overall, absolutely fantastic book.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 because this was generally just a feel-good read and I felt very chill and relaxed while reading it, which was exactly what I needed in that moment.

🪄 witches and fae
🪄 rom-com cozy fantasy
🪄 magical bookshop
🪄 steamy magical tension
🪄 fake engagement
🪄 grumpy x sunshine
🪄 forced proximity

This is a perfect read when you're looking for something low-stakes, with the feeling that everything will be alright in the end. I loved Addie's determination and how she dealt with being magicless in a magical family. I will probably pick up next books in the series because I want to see what will happen with the rest of the family. The next couple is really giving can't stand you to lovers.

How to Fake it with a Fae has already locked in one of my top ten favorite reads this year!

I had so much fun reading this book. It checked boxes I didn't even know I had, like referencing one of the greatest movies of all time, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! Dead woman matchmaking. The pursuit of clothes that don't itch. The list goes on. (Let's not forget the ADORABLE cover and title!!)

Here is who I think should be reading this:
*Anyone going through a SJM book binge hangover
*Readers that loved Assistant to the Villain but wanted more "spice"
*Romance readers who have sworn off fantasy books... get ready!
*Anyone looking for the next fun, completely unexpected 5 star read

Gahhhhh, I am already jonesing hard for book #2!!

This was such a cute and fun read. I love knowing there’s more to come.

This was a fun and easy read, a romcom delight in a book. It was a breeze to read, the writing style was extremely approachable. I opted to listen to this via text-to-speech and the writing style lent itself very well to that. Uncomplicated and very light prose.

While overall this book was easy to read, I did find myself struggling with quite a few aspects of the plot and characters. There were quite a few real-world references, but I didn't find the setting of this story to feel like our real world at all. So when there was a pop culture reference, it would give me a bit of a shock and bring me out of the story. I won't get into some of the other points in this review, as they tip more into the spoiler side of things. Here are a few notes to give you an idea of what I was thinking, and you'll understand if you read the book:

- cast iron skillets - this was confusing to me...
- I would forget they were in the South until someone said "y'all"
- the "first time" felt icky to me - IYKYK

While this would not necessarily be the first book I'd recommend to someone, I don't regret reading it. I would potentially continue with the series, but it would be dependent upon what other reviewers and ratings are saying about the books.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Ladybugbooks LLC for a digital advanced reader copy of this book! All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As always a very big thank you to the publishers for such a wonderful read .

my thoughts ; i knew this was a book many were interested in this read , i was intrigued to see what the story was about , well i can say this book had me sucked in from the first page it was like practical magic and ACOTAR had a baby perfect to me .
the plot i loved very much ,enemies to lovers , fake dating , grumpy sunshine , witches and of course the Fae !! my life was made I enjoyed how witty and cosy and full of magic it was , yes it had a bit of cheesy romance moments but that can be the best part that makes the story .

Addison and Feylin as main characters were very enjoyable to read i loved Feylin wit and loved Addison The determination was great

I really enjoyed Amy writing i think she is great at keeping me captivated and makes you feel like your in the story with the rest of the characters , the story flowed very well and pretty fast with pace .

Over all this was a fun read, I thought it was cute and funny. I loved the banter. I will say some parts were definitely cringey but still enjoyable.

I was stuck somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. I loved Addie and Feylin and fake dating is one of my absolute favorite tropes, but I could have done with 95% fewer referenced to puking. The resolution of the third act conflict came a little too easily for me and I found the FMC’s quick forgiveness a little frustrating. Overall though, I loved the setup and almost all of the execution of this book and will absolutely read the sequels that have been set up!
