I am super interested in weather, so this seemed like a great book for me. Whenever kids are looking for science books, but aren't quite sure which specific topic, weather tends to be one that I recommend. This book is great to add to my reader's advisory repertoire. It is packed with information, facts, diagrams, photos, and activities all related to weather. I don't think I've ever read a more comprehensive book about weather for children. Some of the science concepts are definitely higher level, so upper elementary and above are the ideal age group for this book. However, I think even younger readers would be interested by the pictures and infographics. I learned a lot from this book and am looking forward to recommending it to science-minded readers.

The illustrations by Stephanie Hathaway are clear, imaginative, colorful, and informative.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!

! thoroughly enjoyed Extreme Weather for Kids. This title will engage young readers interested in weather phenomena as well as those who are merely curious about why certain weather events occur. There is so much information packed into the 80+ pages of this title that every reader is sure to learn something new and interesting.
I liked the text features, there were short bursts of text accompanied by various visuals and graphics - charts, pictures, maps, graphs, etc. It's all in there. I say this because when children read nonfiction titles they should be introduced to important nonfiction text features (mentioned above) that they will see often during their reading journey. These text features often contain as much if not more information as the actual text.
My fourth-grade students use books on weather for their nonfiction unit so I will be adding this title immediately but even without the curriculum connection this title is great for any school library or as a gift for a budding meteorologist. The reading level and content are best suited to grades 3/4 and up.

This book is phenomenal! It is a MUST for any school or home library and appropriate for any older kid-adult who loves science and weather. The information is clear and interesting, and the activities and simple yet effective. Highly recommend this book!

Each section has a science experiment to conduct to reinforce the concepts read about.

Wonderful book for teachers doing a weather module or for a child that loves to read about extreme weather. The information is given in a short burst of paragraphs so as not to overwhelm and the experiments fun.

This is a very informative way for kids to learn about the dramatically different kinds of weather with step by step activities and beautiful photography. I thank Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Quarry Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book for every child over the ages of 7-8, and even for adults like me who need all things science-y explained slowly and methodically.

If you like your science given with plenty of helpful illustrations and photos, served up with lots of fascinating trivia, then you will love this book by the author of the equally interesting <i>Looking Up: The True Adventures of a Storm-Chasing Weather Nerd</i>. Weather has always been this wild and difficult to understand force to most people, but here how it works is broken down for us into clear and intriguing ideas.

A fantastic read for middle grades and older (age 11 and older). This book explains the science behind even newer terms heard in the news like medicanes and polar vortexes. Great activities and practical tips to help increase survival rates in extreme weather events. A comprehensive text full of engaging, relevant images and illustrations to help explain complex phenomena. Some basic earth-sun-moon system level astronomy is also included as is a section on space weather. I particularly like the impartial publishing of the June and December Solstices as such (instead of confusingly calling them by their seasonal names as these differ between the northern and southern hemispheres). A colorful table of contents and sleek index make for easy topic look up. This book may be small, but it packs a science-filled punch! An excellent addition to any personal or school library.

If you want to learn about the weather, then this is the book for you. This book covers pretty much everything. Kids are interested in this sort of material, and the pictures and illustrations help to understand the concepts. It does contain a lot of factual information and reading so I would suggest this for middle school and up. It even includes labs that you can do at home at the end of each chapter.

This is PACKED with great information. I have always been interested in the earth and environment with weather always being fascinating. As a geographer, I learned a lot of this in college and I like to find books for my child related to weather, rocks, rivers, etc. There are weather related activities included that you can do at home, I am looking forward to trying them out with my child. I learned a lot of fun facts I didn’t know before, very informative book. This is more tailored to an older child.

I love this book! It is extremely informative and comes with interesting activities for children. However, I do think that this might be more suitable for KS3 students as the information contained in this book is a bit advanced. I am definitely getting this one when it is out though.

Oh man! I wish I had this book when I was much younger and interested in meteorology! Now that i'm a mom with twin budding scientists of my own, I have to say this book is absolutely fantastic! The information is broken up into easily digestible chunks with eye catching pictures, graphics and fun facts sprinkled throughout the book. There were quite a few things I learned myself while reading this book and I thought I knew a lot about weather! My girls absolutely adored this book and want to try many of the experiments at home. I also enjoyed reading the storm chaser adventure segments about the author's personal adventures. My girls are 8 currently and had no problem reading this book, though there are some big weather terms that they needed help sounding out.

if you have a child in your life who is interested in weather, how it works and how it affects the world around us, then this book is perfect for you!

This was a really informative book! As a mom of a child that loves science and learning new things, I know this book will be a hit! The information is interesting but the pictures are also attention grabbing.

My 5 year old is obsessed with extreme weather. Has checked out every book out library offers on the subject, so he was super stoked about this one. It’s very informative, with lots of pictures. He loved the different activities that go with the chapters. I liked that the activities were fairly simple to do! This book was a huge hit for both myself and him! I’m sure we’ll be reading it again and again!

What a nice science book for kids! Kids tend to get easily interested in all sorts of things, especially those they see happen, yet cannot explain them rationally. Let’s be honest, most adults cannot explain the weather rationally either. And… enter this book!
I love using books like this one in a sneaky way around kids – never push anyone to read it, just place it somewhere where the kid is going to be, make sure the kid gets bored enough to start checking out the surroundings, and open the book (oh, there are pictures? Nice, let’s look!) and… it sucks them in. They come out smarter and have something to tell their friends too.
Me? I read it and I found lots of things I was not aware of, and I’m old already. So, I’d say it’s not just for kids, but most definitely a great science book to have around if you have kids or even grandkids visiting now and then. Or, if you need a gift for a middle-grade-aged kid.

A very good middle school to junior high book about weather. It gives experiments to conduct at the end of each lesson. Wonderful pictures to help kids visualize. Definitely a useful tool for homeschooling families like ours.

I would highly recommend this for any home and school library with children. There is so much information here, and it is so well organized. Different kinds of weather are clearly explained, and there are several experiments throughout the book that you can do, such as creating your own rainbow and understanding carbon dioxide.
I like to talk about one favorite thing but I have two: I loved the trivia, such as that there is a place in Venezuela that gets the most lightning (how random is that?) and the second is that the author decided to see the Nothern Lights, which is one of my goals, and explained that. The illustrations and photographs are perfect for the text.
