Breezy and enjoyable, and packed with beautiful pictures this book gives a pacy overview of National Trust properties used in TV and film, shining a light on challenges I’d certainly never imagined when filming on fragile protected sites - cigars, bats, berries and blood!

As well as having an interest in British history and the buildings which remain, I’m also a huge film fan and it was nice to see how properties have been used with imagination to depict such a variety of locations. I’m not much of a TV viewer, though, so the Poldark, Bridgerton, Game of Thrones, and The Crown sections made much less impression, though they were handled equally well.

The logistics of filmmaking is something I find fascinating, and in the days of such convincing CGI it’s so refreshing to see how modern filmmakers, their casts and crews, get such a boost from being in bricks and mortar locations.

I did spot at least one error - the Indiana Jones “book burning” scene is in Last Crusade (1989) not Temple of Doom (1984).

Chatty and informative.

A very nice coffee table book, with lovely pictures and very informative in regards to which TV shows/Films have used each of the properties.

I would have liked a little more of each of the the building's histories to be included (but that's only because I'm a history nerd) but the books works well because it makes me want to go visit each of these beautiful National Trust properties and explore them myself

National Trust on Screen is an excellent reference book about the National Trust locations that served as film and TV locations.
I am a fan of National Trust, NT books and by profession, I am in film and TV training and making, so I had to read this book.
NT on Screen has a dual job of making National Trust locations and the productions shot in those locations more visible and accessible.
Two Northern Ireland NT locations are also included.
Beautifully presented and informative, this book is for NT, history, geography and film and TV enthusiasts.
I have always wanted to go to Somerset, but thanks to this book, I am planning to go there sooner than later.

This is a well formatted book which is easy to dip in and out of, or to sit and read in one go. Lovely photographs and stills, and well written and interesting information about the properties and the series or film they are linked to.
I will be referencing this when I travel and it is a great companion to visits to National Trust properties.

Gorgeous images and fabulous information that any film lover would treasure. If you're a National trust member, this is lovely to flick through before you go so that you have a few bits of info before you visit.

I am much more of a reader than a film or television fan, but if any of my favourite books are filmed I nearly always watch them. Never as good as the book, of course, but there have been some really good adaptations with stunning settings. Many of these belong to the National Trust so the sites can be visited. I was excited to read about the wonderful locations of some of my favourite books, such as the Wolf Hall trilogy, the Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones, Never Let Me Go, Poldark, Far from the Madding Crowd and The History Boys.

What I liked about this guide the most (besides the photography) is that is organised by regions. So, as I live in the Midlands I know where the days out are likely to be. The locations can be identified by the index at the back, but the regional sections and map make the process very clear. The book is smaller than typical novel so it is easier to leave it in the glove compartment in the car for those times when I'm on holiday or on further afield trips.

This is an updated version of the book that was published originally in 2020, because since that time streaming and production have dramatically increased and so there is much more to visit. Included are colour photographs of the locations and behind the scenes of the filming and set building, maps and information on where exactly the filming process took place and how. If you are an actor devotee, there are plenty of pictures of them as well.

An easy to follow guide, informative and concise, perfect for film fans, daytrippers and those who appreciate English heritage.

A fascinating book featuring information and photos of numerous National Trust locations over England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Including pictures of productions over each location and describing the stunning histories and atmosphere each location creates/is created by film. I recommend National Trust on Screen to anyone interested in the locations behind the film; captured by the camera as snippets of fantasy or history when they have deep roots in British history (and discourse, but that's for another book).

Thank you, NetGalley and Collins Reference | National Trust Books for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Very entertaining book with filming locations in Great Britain, that would be a clever gift for anyone going to Braitain and planning some sigh-seeing. There is a map inside that helps with planning and every location has throughout description with list of movies shot there and photos. I will admit that I took some screenshots while reading, so I could use them when planning my next trip to London. I will definitely try to visit some of these places. I like it that this is not the first edition of this guide and it's updated often to include newer productions.

I often admire the beautiful locations I see on TV and Screen and I often ask ‘ooo I wonder where that was filmed! *cue frantic googling*. Well wonder no more. This book has a fantastic spread of many recognisable (and some not so) locations we’ve come to know and love from the big screen.

The pictures included are stunning and the behind the scenes glimpses felt like we were being let in on a secret. We got insights behind iconic filming moments from where the cast like to hang out, unseen moments and the set up to shooting. I seriously loved reading this and it was a super addicting and informative read.

Kudos to the National Trust for being so accommodating to the film industry and kudos to the writers for providing such an enjoyable and informative read about all things filming. They succinctly describe the show or movie they were featuring, to the shot we saw on screen and how it was set up. As someone who loves the behind the scenes, it was a great read!

I also now have several new places to add to my must see list! I love going to see National Trust properties and they always make for such great trips. After this book, it’ll definitely having you itching to get out there or rewatching beloved old favourite shows and movies.
