I have read many historical romances but never one set so close to the present day and it was amazing to see the different social etiquettes that existed just a few decades ago. Pearl Harbour at the time of the bombing attack was a really unusual setting; the author described it really well and used the opportunity for different people being thrown together to create a believable and engaging plot. The way the hero and heroine nicknamed each other Oklahoma and Nebraska also highlighted the slim odds of such a chance meeting between two people from such far apart towns. This book was easy to read with the light tone not detracting at all from the terrible events of that day. A heartwarming read.

When I saw that this story was set around Pearl Harbour, I wasnt really sure what to expect, but this sets the scene well, it starts before Pearl Harbour is attacked and we read all about KT and Wendy, we get to see them and their reactions to the attack and see as they both come to terms with what has happened in their own way. Both characters were really likable and the story set the scene well. A lovely sweet romance set during WW2

Set in 1941 in Hawaii, just before and after the Pearl Harbour attack, this emotional and engaging historical romance evokes WW2 with authenticity, believable characters and forbidden romance. Wendy, a Red Cross Nursing Aide, wants to see the world and retain her independence. KT enjoys his military career but has left a girlfriend behind with expectations of a future together after the war. They meet just before the Pearl Harbour attack at a dance. The chemistry between them is powerful. When KT is injured, Wendy nurses him, forming an emotional attachment that fuels their attraction, but she isn't looking for love, and he feels he has emotional commitments back home. The hospital setting, treatments and historical details are relatable and well-researched. Lighter moments mitigate the conflicted romance, making this an enjoyable balance of heartwarming humour and heartbreaking poignancy.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I read a lot of romance novels set during the war but believe this is the first set at Pearl Harbour. I worried a little that it would be too sad because of knowing what happened there. I am glad to say that the author didn't gloss over the horrors of what happened, but at the same time, she balanced the story out with fun, lighthearted moments that kept me smiling. I loved the budding romance between Wendy and K.T. the main characters of the story. They both had reasons for not falling in love or getting seriously involved with each other. I loved watching them try to stop the inevitable. The build-up of their romance was beautiful and I couldn't read quickly enough to enjoy when they would ultimately realise that they could and should be together!

The pace of the book was just right and I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it!

A very lovely, gentle romance. The love story is set in Hawaii and kicks off with the attack on Pearl Harbour. The book is fascinating in the day to day details of life in a hospital, how burns and breaks are worked on and how patients were treated. The separate lives of men and women is fascinating and the tidbits of life in the midst of death, I jury and war is great to read, the book made the place come alive, the atmosphere, the smells and the pain and joy. K.T. and Wendy are both great and deserve their story to be told, and for it to be happy, bouncy and sunny.

A Dance With Her Forbidden Officer is a sweet historical romance novel by Lauri Robinson.
This was such a sweet novel based in the 1940s. The story was easy to follow and a bit predictable at times but it made for easy reading plus it had a great cast of characters that were likeable and believable. Overall a very enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
❤️ Thank you to netgalley and Mills and Boon for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

With hindsight, when a book is set in Hawaii during the war, you know the pain and sadness that will occur. Wendy, a Red Cross volunteer, and KT first meet at a dance.

When the attack happens, KT is badly burned from rescuing people trapped in the ships. As an underwater welder, he's needed back to work, so a new burns treatment is delivered to him via Wendy and the nurse who wants to trial the experimental treatment.

A very enjoyable read
