This Book Club Kit is a game-changer for anyone looking to elevate their book club experience. It’s packed with insightful discussion questions, fun activities, and even personalized book recommendations—everything you need to spark lively conversations and keep your group engaged. The materials are beautifully designed and easy to use, making both virtual and in-person meetings feel seamless.

Admittedly, I wanted to take a look at this book club kit because I was very interested in reading The Mayor of Maxwell Street in the first place. Much to my absolute delight, this kit was very involved and included a lot of great content. We get spoiler and trigger warnings at the very beginning and a note from the author to reference the historical accuracy—which relates to specific references and words about race. Following is an author interview and discussion questions, some of which were suggested by the author, herself! While the bookmarks don’t alter much to me in the long run, these ones are very pretty. This kit also includes links to some different drink and food recipes to have at book club meetings as well as some fun games and activities that can be incorporated into the meeting to make readers feel like they’re going back in time to the 20s. I loved the included playlist and read next sections as well.

Thank you Disney Publishing Worldwide for sponsoring this kit and We Are Bookish for creating this kit! I’m very appreciative of this bookclub kit as it allowed me to reflect on the book with discussion questions during my buddy read.

I've read this book and think this book club kit would be invaluable to any readers. It includes thought provoking discussion questions and lots of ideas for a 1920s themed book club party. Highly recommend!
Thanks NetGalley!

Nice resources with some extras to use for a book club with discussion questions.
No external review since this file is extra resources to the book, and not the book itself.

It's a a book club kit for The Mayor of Maxwell Street by Avery Cunningham from We Are Bookish. It comes with interesting discussion questions, recipes for food and drinks, printable bookish books and & bookmarks with tons of other amazing resources!

Thank you We Are Bookish for creating this kit and Disney Publishing Worldwide for sponsoring. This kit had me get tried of all the conflicting feelings i had for this book and helped me review my feelings and questions through the author interview and discussion questions. Definitely recommend to check it out!

Great book club resource for an absolutely incredible book. I loved the inclusion of a playlist, drinks and recipes to truly evoke the time and place of the book.

These book club kits have everything you need for a book club. They offer book marks questions and outlines. They are great!

Great book club kit! Enjoy the discussion questions, and they make you think on a more in depth level of the context of the book. I especially like the themed suggestion “Step into the 20s” as it would be great to dress for the occasion and make it a completely different experience versus a typical book club meeting. It could be more of a small event.

I love it when a book gives us recipes and / or playlists, it such an extra.
I really liked the interview and the notes, also I really appreciate a content or trigger list, not every book has it and its very useful.
I think the colors work beautifully and the fonts are very nice and easy to read.
its very useful to have a list of her other books so I know what else to add to the tbr

"The Mayor of Maxwell Street" is a poignant and evocative novel that explores the complexities of community, identity, and human connection. Through the eyes of its unforgettable protagonist, this book masterfully weaves together themes of family, love, and resilience. Cunningham's vivid storytelling and nuanced characterization bring the vibrant world of Maxwell Street to life. A powerful and moving debut, "The Mayor of Maxwell Street" will resonate with fans of literary fiction and anyone looking for a story that will touch their heart.

I started a book club with my husband's high school friends wives. "The Mayor of Maxwell Street" is our first book club pick. I cannot wait to use this for our discussion.
I especially love how it comes with bookmarks to cut out and give as gifts, recipes to serve, and a Spotify playlist to help set the mood.
I am hoping NetGalley will create more of these in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book and when I saw the Book Club Kit, I had to get it. If your book club is reading this book, then this kit will help you prepare a fun and immersive experience for your group. The author interview gives you a little behind the scenes about writing the book and characters. There is a content warning about the challenging topics in this story. There is a good selection of discussion questions. I haven't tried them yet, but there were cocktail and food suggestions that pair nicely with the 1920s. There are several specialty, book cover themed bookmarks you can print out for your meeting. I was nicely surprised by the suggestions to create a 1920s themed experience from dress to dancing to speakeasy ambiance. The author created a fantastic playlist with 12 songs of the era that you can play on Spotify. There were also suggestions about What to Read Next. I would agree that Wild Women and the Blues by Denny S. Bryce pairs nicely with this book for 1920s Chicago and The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson pairs nicely to explore the class divides and the Black elite in 1950s Washington, DC.
If you are planning to read The Mayor of Maxwell Street with your book club, I would highly recommend this kit to enhance and enrich your experience discussing this amazing book.

This book club kit also included tips on how to turn your book club into a 20s themed book club, so fun! I really enjoy these kits, and love that they always include author interviews.

. I really enjoyed the mayor of maxwell Street and feel that the book club experience was that much better with this book club kit. My favorite elements were the book marks included, the curated song list, and the questions. I also enjoyed reading the author interview. Our group meets in public places so the recipes, costume and games weren't of as much use to us, however a cute addition to make bookclub that much more fun. I feel like the pages of what to read next and publisher books were unnecessary and just added to the massive amount of pages printed. Bookclubs don't pick books that way usually. Local bookclubs who meet in homes would benefit most from this resource packet.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and netgalley for the opportunity to review this kit. My review is wholly my own and in no way skewed by reviving a copy of the packet.

This is an incredible book club resource for the historical fiction ‘The mayor of Maxwell street “.
Replete with discussion questions, author interview and even recipes for cocktails and bites related to the book, I enjoyed this kit more than I thought I would.
