I found this book hard to get into and read. Not sure whether it was too much world building or too little.

This is a fast paced novel combining the elements of thriller/suspense/adventure all into one paranormal romance with some on page action.
Things I liked:
- the author departs from the weak female rescued by the monstrous but perfect male. Instead all the main characters are mutating into monsters, making this stand out from many other paranormal romances.
- the “evil” characters are given a solid backstory and the reader doesn’t have to imagine them as pure evil, giving them a very real and relatable feel.
- the pacing of the book was great, no slow spots.
Things I was less excited about
- the unfortunate imagery of the Incredible Hulk popping up as characters got angry and transformed. I don’t think it was intended but It was definitely there for me, ever. Single. Time.
- the pacing of the novel made it a bit difficult to have any slow burn etc, so the characters insta-love attraction is not something I enjoy.
Overall a unique and very well put together paranormal novel.

This was an unexpected fun read! I really enjoyed the characters and their relationships with each other. The underground lab and creepy experiments that we still don’t know much about provided an interesting backdrop for the characters. The writing was fast paced, but a little too rushed at times in my opinion. I would have liked to have had a little more of the “painting the scene” and details in the story. We got a lot of “meat and potatoes,” but not really any of the garnish that really elevates a story if that makes sense. Overall though it didn’t detract from the story, and I would recommend this book!

If you're looking for something action packed and dark with a love interest... look no further!

This wasn't fantastic writing, or ground breaking but it was a dang thrilling time! I see myself recommending this one to some friends.

What the Heck have i just read! I mean.. i was feeling like that during the whole book.
The story goes by so fast that i was holding my breath or i was screaming buring the story.
The multiple POVs helps you understand better the story.
It was an AMAZING book that had my heart beating fast and tbh it would make an amazing movie! 😉
The spice is 🤌🏽
If you like fantacy in morden world you have to read it. Triniti 👏🏽🤎WOW♥️

Burning Red is on medical experiments mostly. We get multiple POVs, which helps understand better what's going on.

This book can be quite enjoyable, but it has some really heavy TW (some parts really give me the chills) and some things that don't make sense( the main one being: why isn't Jax recognizing the doctor?!)

The characters are complex and additive to the story. They all act in a way that makes sense for them (even tho it can be quite unpleasant and they are not nice human beings). The pacing is good and the descriptions are not over-done or insufficient. I like that the characters are not rushing into the labs, but making a plan instead and the fact that they consider and think about the other people that are a part of this.

All in all, if you like a more sf book with a contemporary setting and don't mind the TW too much, this book is great.

I love how this book got intense fast. It really captures you and keeps you engrossed. I couldn't put it down! It is easy to imagine what the characters are really going through.

I love how packed emotions are in this, with some spice added if course!

Would deff recommend!

Didn't like it... it didn't grab my attention like I wanted too and I lost Interest fast.. maybe if it was re written better

oh my gosh.. this book is incredible! From the first chapter I was hooked in. I needed to know what was happening to them and if they were going to break out and survive. The fact that what they were doing in the secret underground labs was leaking out to the animals and town surrounding them, was a definite cause for alarm. But because of how powerful the family is that was conducting the experiments no one thought to even challenge them. Unknown if they were paid to keep quite... but I wouldn't doubt it..

I enjoyed the subtle moments throughout the book where they are clearly "shifting" into something else. but the more you read, the more you found out. It's not just changing into werewolves, but there are other powers being created as well, which the scientist doesn't seem to be aware of... I can't wait to see where this goes.

I am slightly confused on a couple pieces of information... why does Jonas never stand up against his brother? When he picked up Max she had this gut feeling that he wouldn't hurt her.. is that another of his powers? emotion manipulation? or will he eventually revolt against his only remaining family member... the other is Max's last statement to her brother about their mother... how does she know that? I went back and re-read the last couple chapters and can't find where she would have found that information...

On a side note, Eddie got what he deserved. 100%

***ARC READ***

Thank you to Netgalley and The Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was incredible! Wow! I was hooked from start to finish.
I'm not sure what I was expecting in this book, but regardless, it exceeded my expectations - you couldn't predict everything that would happen and it kept you on your toes for that reason. Also, the plot twists near the end?????? YES!

The only thing I found I bit questionable was Garron and Max's relationship. I found it too ironic and, in a way, laughable. Of all the people in the universe to fall for? And in such a fast way - upon their first encounter it was already going crazy between them! I still loved them together though!

I saw a review that started with WHAT DID I EVEN JUST READ?!?!? and honestly, SAME GIRL.🤣

What a freaking ride. And I loved it.

I'm not going to summarize the book, because it's right up there ⬆️⬆️⬆️, you know, in the summary of the book.

I will say that I read this faster than I've read any book recently. It was so interesting and I wanted to keep going.

The darkness in these characters called to the darkness in me, and I loved living through that with them. HOWEVER, if you have triggers, then take care of yourself and check the trigger warnings before reading this book.

I'm over here living in my low-tech romantasy worlds, so when I finished this book I was like, "what was that and why did I love it so much?!" Is it crack? Did the author somehow rig the e-book with programming that emitted crack from my tablet when I opened my Kindle app to read this book? Did she embed a stealth code in the pages of the e-book to create such an experience?

After further investigation, turns out she just wrote a freaking great book.

Kudos to Trinity Slain for crafting such a unique, interesting, exciting, emotional story with characters to match. Also, the multi-POV worked really, really well in this book. Not once did I get annoyed that I had to wade through so-and-so's POV again.

Loved it. Eager for Book 2.

**I received an advance review copy of this book, and I am leaving a review of my honest opinions of my own accord.** Many thanks to NetGalley, Black Rose Writing, and Trinity Slain for the ARC.

I really enjoyed this book! It was such a gripping story, and a truly unique tale. I loved the characters, and how realistic their reactions were to what was happening throughout the book; even though it was a fantasy, that gave it a more realistic vibe.

The only thing I would want to change about this book is the length of the paragraphs. They seem to go on for a very long time when it’s not necessary.

Overall though this was an extremely great read!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🤎🖤💜💙❤️

Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 😲🫣😡😤🥰

The Hero: Garron - he spent years in an underground research facility where mad scientists tortured him and experimented on him, turning him into something not totally human. Each day he got painful injections which played havoc with his system and caused terrible pain. He didn’t know how many years he had been kept there and even remember what his last name was or how old he was. A new guy was brought into the containment area next to him. He said his name was Jaxon and he talked a lot. Though Garron didn’t respond since most of the time when new guys were brought in, they didn’t survive long.

The heroine: Maxine - she is Jaxon’s sister and her brother had been missing for months. She was worried about him even though he had told her to go about her life since his plan would take time. She worked at a sporting goods store and one of the customers, Eddie Blascoe had been bothering her. She worked for Frank, who had been her dad’s best friend and partner in national sharp shooting contests. Her best friend Cory also worked at the sporting goods store. Maxine knew that Jax was gathering evidence against the Gregori family who murdered her mother and were responsible for putting her dad in prison.

The Story: Jaxon seemed to survive the initial treatments where they were being held and spoke to Garron every day until finally Garron gave Jaxon his name. They spoke through the vents in their containment cells each night with Jaxon telling stories of his friends and family. Garron was most interested in the stories of Jaxon’s sister. They also discussed plans of escape. Though Garron had thought for years it wasn’t possible, he still had hope. The plan was for Garron to cause a disturbance and Jaxon to escape since they couldn’t think of a way for both of them to get out.

Lately I have been loving books about genetic experiments and non-traditional types of monsters. This one had all that and a bag of chips. There were rabid looking animals that were products of genetic experimentation running wild, there were villains that weren’t just the scientists doing the experimentation. There were also people who gained special abilities as a result of the experiments. It was all very engrossing, and I was caught up in the story from the start.

The book was told from multiple points of view which I really liked, I love getting the perspective of both main characters and even that of the supporting characters. The serum the scientists have developed is called “The Red” which is where the title for the book comes in. They developed the serum for its medical benefits, and though the doctors thought the “patients” had volunteered, that was obviously just putting their heads in the sand since nobody would willingly volunteer to be tortured and killed in the most painful ways, live in containment cells and be treated brutally by the guards.

I have to say, one thing that I don’t like in books is when people are stupid or do stupid things. There was one point in this book when Maxine was in a gun fight with a bunch of guys trying to abduct her and instead of killing them, she shoots three of them in the knee. I mean it’s obvious she knows how to handle a gun and is a good shot, but she should of went for the chest or the head. I mean a knee shot has to be painful, but it isn’t enough to stop someone who is determined.

I loved how “The Red” affected everyone differently and gave them different abilities. There were some pretty cool ones in addition to increased strength, faster running ability, and faster healing. There were some kind of gross side effects such as the hunger for raw meat and blood, though that isn’t all that different from Vampires. I can’t wait to read more from this series. I did notice there was a 32-page prequel to this book that is about Jaxon, so I grabbed that and will read it after this.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a e-copy in exchange for a review.

This one really wasn't for me in terms of the kinds of things I usually read, but there were certainly good things about it. The multi pov setup allows you to get a better idea of the world and what kinds of shady science are actually happening, which would not have happened with a single pov, even if it had been third person.

i just wasn't hooked by the concept or the characters in this story, which was a bummer. but if you like a book with darker content and a romance that isn't the whole entire plot, go ahead and pick this one up.

This was a fast paced, wild ride of a book. It's a little bit horror, a little bit thriller, and a little bit spicy. As the author developed the story and the settings, I kept thinking to myself that this is part Resident Evil, part Underworld. I loved Garron and Maxine, and can't wait to see more of Jax and Sierra. Of course, we end on a cliffhanger which definitely has me wanting to come back for more.

At first, I had a hard time engaging with the book. Once the book started picking up I didn’t want to put it down. I think the author had great character development and they had strong personalities which drove me deeper into the book.
I thought the twists and turns of the book were what continued to engage me. With all of the different plots in the book, you had to pay attention to what was going on!

Thank you, NetGalley, for letting me read and review this ARC! Thank you, Trinity Slain, for writing an engaging, plot-twisting book that continued to make me want more! I can’t wait to read other books by you!

The beginning was super slow for me, but as I read along, I really liked it! I’ve never read any PNR books so this was a good first one to try out! I think once I got about 50 pages in, I started to get more hooked and then couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend this book if you like PNR.

When I started this book, I realized that it wasn't the kind of book that I would typically pick up. The more I read, the more invested I became, and I wound up loving every moment of it. The concept and story are fresh and interesting. The pacing is great, and it kept me turning pages without the fatigue I typically experience with a book so action packed.

Every character is written in a way that I am entirely invested in their story. I loved Maxine, Gerron, Jaxon, and the rest, and I can't wait to find out more about each of them in future books. There is plenty of paranormal action and just enough romance to keep me super invested. There are lots of questions that I am left wanting answers to, which is keeping me on pins and needles for the next books in the series.

If I had any criticisms, it would be that with so many different points of view, chapter by chapter, it does sometimes get a little confusing, and I found myself flipping back to the beginning of the chapter to make sure I know whose point of view I was reading. Also, please keep in mind that this book does end in a pretty substantial cliffhanger, and while that isn't a criticism by me (I love cliff hangers!), I know that some can be turned off by cliff hangers when the rest of the series isn't released yet.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was action packed and kept me guessing the entire time! I absolutely can't wait for the rest of the series!

“I felt you before I even laid eyes on you. I would have found you, even if I wasn't looking.”

I honestly didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, but I was pretty blown away. The cover is quite unassuming, and here I was thinking I was walking into some predictable paranormal romance. Wrong!

If I can find adequate words to give you a feel for the vibe, it's almost a pre-apocalyptic dystopian urban fantasy romance (wow, what a mouthful but honestly, it's hard to describe). Set in the real world but with an underground, human trial based lab experiment on crack, led by a mob-esque family of super villains. I know...it's a lot. I could absolutely envision this translating so well into a TV series.

This was also one of the most intense, action-packed books I've read in a while. It was all about pace and plot. It was fast moving and didn't leave you bored for a second! You'll hit the ground running from the very start, and be pulled into this twisted story that will have you gripping your kindle tightly, desperately hoping all your favourite characters make it out alive.

Absolutely loved the main characters, even though Garron is a terrible name for an MMC (sorry, not sorry - I'll get over it). I can't wait to keep reading this series to learn more about them with some added character development, as that's really what I felt was pushed to the side in favour of plot in this first installment. There was a lot of information to get through, and it would have been nice to focus on learning more about their histories. Again, I'm hoping this is coming as more is revealed in the future.

Loved the multi POV format, and so cool getting villain POV chapters - I hate read those chapters so hard. There are some great, slimy little worm bad guys in this series and I can't wait for them to get their asses kicked by my girl Max.

This book sat weirdly with me. Premise is epic, execution is… less so.

Early on we witness Max in a wild and wonderful situation… death and *OH MY DAYS I’m going to find the most on the nose method of explaining just how horrific this situation is* type moment… she is the enemy of the bad guys, the obsession of them. They are bad and she is good but also badass. I couldn’t stomach it.

But I kept going.

Jax (seriously who names siblings Jax and Max?) is a little more believable, as is Garron. I could accept their dire situation, even if I couldn’t quite believe it. They are realistic and enjoyable to read about. Their plight was well done descriptively.

This book reeks of an otherworldly, fantastical darkness in a very earthly, sci-fi-esque setting. Personally it felt like it wasn’t really sure what genre it fit into. I wasn’t in love with it… wasn’t really sure of the direction and I fully admit to immersing myself in a book with no clue as to the ending (which is nice). But the sad fact is that I couldn’t immerse myself because I didn’t, in all honesty, click with the writing. It wasn’t badly written, but there was something (and I can’t quite put my finger on what which I know is very annoying) that just want good about this book.

I think it comes down to a heroine that I just could not get behind. I didn’t like Max at all. She annoyed me from the offset. It’s a shame because I really, really wanted to like this book. It sings to me in a way all my favourites do. It’s just a shame we had to witness an early murder done so spectacularly poorly. Christ. That was something else.
