I did enjoy this book but I felt the plot could have been made a little clearer. There were so many different threads throughout the story and some of them seemed to be left undone, if you know what I mean. I thought the writing style was good, but at times there seemed like a lot of repetition and unnecessary padding. I found some of the many twists confusing and sometimes too far-fetched, and I didn’t gel with any of the characters. For me, it was an enjoyable read which was thrilling in places and confusing in others. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the electronic copy.

She may not be sorry, but I am. I did not enjoy this book at all.

The pacing is so slow, I prefer faster paced books but if the characters and writing pull me in then I'll go with the slow flow.

Unfortunately Meghan is an absolute dolt. She has absolutely nothing going on in her brain. I just could not back her at all.

All of the plots were convoluted and messy. Some were so obvious that it seemed pointless including them. Were they there just as filler? Because surely we weren't expected to not know where they were going?

I'm not sure if it was just the formatting of this ARC but it was difficult to follow the timeline to the point where some of the twists felt wrong not twisty.

There were pages and pages of repetitive Meghan walks to and from places. Details of the streets, who was about, the weather.... I ended up skipping ahead pages at a time because it was all just noise in an already noisy book.

Really not for me at all this one.

‘She’s Not Sorry’ by Mary Kubica is a heavy and twisty thriller about Meghan, an ICU nurse who usually emotionally detaches from the patients she treats. However, when she’s assigned to an apparent suicide attempt that soon has police swirling around claiming that a witness saw the victim, Caitlin Beckett, get pushed, she becomes invested in the case. Caitlin’s parents won’t leave her bedside despite their apparent estrangement from her, a strange man was caught watching her through the ward’s window, and there’s a serial rapist at large in Chicago, all of which add to the sense of intrigue and convince Meghan that all is not as it seems…

There’s a sense of tension throughout the story, with Meghan worrying about her sixteen year old daughter Sienna’s safety, and fearing that her involvement with the Becketts might be putting the only person she truly loves in peril. Adding to that the anxiety that builds among the female characters as more women are attacked in the city raises the sense of imminent danger yet further and makes the book hard to put down. A big twist at the end of Part One had my head spinning and my heart racing!

Despite definitely ticking the “thrilling” box, this novel didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I didn’t think the characterisation was particularly strong and there were quite a few loose ends or unexplained actions by the end of the book, even as some shocking connections were revealed.

This gets three stars rom me and was a quick rollercoaster of a tale that I’m glad I experienced.

I received an advance Digital Review Copy of this book from the publisher HQ via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I am a big fan of Mary Kubica and throughly enjoyed this latest book.

It was a great 'popcorn read', enough in the story to feel engaged and enough about the characters to be sympathetic, or not, as the case may be.

I enjoyed the surprise twist that pops up 3/4 of the way into the book, it was very clever and caught me off guard, which I love in a book! The twist was simple on reflection but I didn't see it coming.

Very easy and enjoyable read.

Meghan is a nurse working in ICU, she never lets herself get close to any of the patients or families, but somehow this new patient Caitlin gets under her skin. Meghan finds herself getting involved with Caitlins family and revealing more about her personal life than she ever has before. Caitlin is in a coma as she tried to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge.... However all is not as it seems! The more involved Meghan becomes the more she realises she and her daughter are in danger but just who from? And who is the man who turned up to see Caitlin in the coma?

Loved this book, and didn't see ending coming. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this will be highly recommending!

A slow moving thriller about a nurse working in the hospital looking after a suspected suicide victim and bringing up a teenage daughter.
A story about domestic abuse with some twists and turns.

Mary Kubica's latest novel lives up to the hype surrounding it. I've heard so much about this book and it's not even been released yet!

Meghan Michaels is an ICU nurse, working long hours at her local hospital. Caitlin Beckett is her one of her patients. Caitlin came in after a suicide attempt from a pedestrian bridge, but is everything as it seems?

She's Not Sorry is an unpredictable, twisted tale with untrustworthy characters, leaving you wondering what will happen next.

This was a gripping read that I couldn't put down right to the very last page.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Following nurse Meghan as she cares for patients on her ward, one patient in particular has caught her attention. A young lady is brought in and is in a coma following a suicide attempt. As she gets to know her family she opens up more than she usually does admitting she herself has a family history of suicide. But as time goes on it’s clear things aren’t quite as they seem, especially when a mystery man comes into the ward to see the woman in a coma.

When I first saw this on netgalley I really loved the sound of it. There is so much in this book to keep you drawn into the storyline with some interesting characters and some great, really unexpected twists. I’ve not read anything by this author before but I’ll definitely be checking out some of her other books, a great read.

There are some trigger warnings in here including rape and suicide.

She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica
Out on the 2nd April 2024.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

This story follows Meghan, an ICU nurse and single mum. Her life gets turned upside down when she is assigned to an attempted suicide patient, which she can't help but get too involved with.

A slow burn to start, as Kubica draws her readers into the story through multiple plot threads, which do not disappoint and are easy to keep up with. After reading the prologue, I was hooked. The short chapters make this book a real page turner. With its many plot twists that leave you second-guessing, many of which were unpredictable.

If you have read any of Mary Kubicas' other books, you know what you're in for. If you're new to this author and like your thrillers full of twists, suspenseful, exciting, and terrifying, then I recommend this book to you.

Well paced with a number of interlinking plots, some quite suspenseful moments!

Some good twists and the plot line unravels really well.

This is my first read from this author though I’ve heard great things and I was not disappointed. This was an enjoyable read full of twists that kept you guessing.

I did enjoy the first half of this book maybe more than the second half. It was face paced, exciting and I was intrigued by the characters and their stories. The first big twist caught me completely off guard!

The ending was good though it felt a little messy at times. Overall a good read. 3.5 stars rounded up.

ICU nurse, Meghan, is looking after a patient who seems to have jumped from a bridge. With a man on the loose attacking women, her divorce, and her best friend feared missing at the hands of her abusive ex, you’d think Meghan would have enough to worry about. But why is the lady in the coma troubling her the most?

This was so twisty! I loved it! Some shocking turns. Well written, kept me turning the pages.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ for my advanced copy.

I went into this not reading the synopsis.
I was instantly intrigued by the opening chapter, wanting to know where the story would go.

Yhe writing style is paced pretty well. It doesn't feel dragging. I did find myself wondering how the two stories connected. I probably should have figured it out.
But by the end it just felt a little underwhelming. Especially the lack of justice.
Overall it just felt lacking something to really bring all the stories together and not feel like pieces were missing.

Meghan Michaels is an ICU nurse. Reporting for duty one morning she is aware of gossip in the break room. It appears that overnight a young woman has been brought in. A suicide attempt that failed, but the outlook for the patient, Caitlin, is serious, as she is in a coma and unlikely to survive, Meghan is put in charge of the case, and becomes close to Caitlin’s parents. Aside from this, Meghan is recently divorced from her high school sweetheart, with whom she has a 16 years old daughter, and there is definitely animosity between the divorced couple. Then there is the meet up with an old school friend, who Meghan takes under her wing. There’s an abundance of things going on!

A dark and complex story, but a very slow burner, took quite a while for the action to get going. Too many story threads that, when tied up, were too far fetched. A few twists that weren’t entirely hidden, but made the plot flow. Strangely there were characters/events that appeared or happened, that seemed either menacing or part of the story, only to disappear and not be mentioned again. Also there was a lot of repetition, which did spoil what could have been a really captivating book. A thorough editing is needed to clear the plot line.

Hard going, but with some good bits. A book with promise that could be so much better if tidied up.

2.5*

Thank you NetGalley and HQ.

This was a dark and complex mystery, that had me guessing throughout. It was more of a slow burner but it’s worth sticking with. Very well written.

Meaghan Michaels is recently divorced, and the single mother to a teenage daughter. At a time when Chicago is being terrorised by a serial attacker of vulnerable women, Meaghan already has plenty to worry about even before she is put in charge of a complicated case.

Caitlin is a young woman who is in a coma as the result of a fall from a bridge. As an ICU nurse, Meaghan is assigned to her care and, almost against her will, becomes emotionally involved with the family - something that she normally avoids.

Because although Caitlin's case has already attracted considerable discussion among her carers, when it emerges that she may have been pushed, things get even more complicated...

This is actually a story that is best entered into without knowing too much about it. What I will say is that it is consistently interesting, compelling and suspenseful. All in all, well worth reading.

3.5 rounded down

Caitlin Beckett is a patient in a Chicago ICU having jumped from a pedestrian bridge, obviously sustaining terrible injuries as a consequence. Meghan Michaels is one of her nurses. Caitlin’s devastated parents take a liking to Meghan and always ask for her and she becomes increasingly involved with the family. However, fellow nurse Luke has doubts about the Becketts. Once new evidence emerges about Caitlin’s fall, it throws everything up in the air.

First of all, this slow burner thriller is very easy to read with writing that flows. There’s tension and suspense scattered throughout the book which keeps you reading on, and towards the end there are some very good plot twists which I have not foreseen, and which take me by surprise. The characters are well portrayed, they’re a bunch of liars and you have absolutely no idea if anyone from the ‘cast’ can be trusted which is entertaining.

However, I do struggle to get into the book at the start, but then it does pick up. There is an awful lot going on in the novel and it’s not just the Caitlin story, but quite a list of other events and I just think it gets too much. Less is often more in my opinion. Some of the plot elements are left as loose ends and the ending itself feels quite rushed. It’s a bit repetitive too, and some situations are over explained which I find irritating. Meghan herself seems to me to taunt danger, she’s careless in certain ways and since she has a teenage daughter to care for at home and as there’s potential danger for women in Chicago, it seems unrealistic.

Overall, there’s a lot that is good in this book, not least the twists, but it’s not Mary Kubica’s best book in my opinion.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

She’s Not Sorry had me hooked from the beginning. A dark and twisty thriller with a cast of complex characters and a tense, sinister undertone, this was a one sitting read for me.
