I Love Mexican Food and love cooking and cookbooks. This is one I would like to buy and keep on my bookshelf for sure. Filled with traditional recipes just reading it made me hungry. There are stories, there are wonderful and tasty photos and the recipes are well worth trying and that is what I plan to do. I want to make them all.

There is some great information and tips so you can have the ingredients you need for cooking up a storm, I can't wait now to get in the kitchen and get cooking (and better still eating my creations!).

Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for giving me the opportunity to read adn review this book.

This book stirred up on all the emotions in me, in the best way :) It reminded me the importance of passing on family recipes. I’m grateful to have family members that I can still ask, but if I didn’t, this book is the foundation of Mexican cooking.

Growing up, I missed the opportunity to ask my grandma how she made her Wedding Cookies because they were different from the version my non-Mexican pals made them. Seeing this recipe has me excited to bake them this weekend!

All of the chorizo based recipes are described the way I’ve always tried to explain to my friends but could never put to words. it’s no surprise that these recipes are truly authentic. Mely Martinez has been bringing recipes to her community for some time now! I love that there’s no recipe too simple for this book. Many recipe book writers might think to skip out on recipes like Chorizo and Eggs because its “easy”, but so many people don’t know it exists.

This cookbook is a piece of home that I can take with me when in 300 miles away from my family. The dessert section is so nostalgic for me because it reminds me of holidays with my family.

If you grew up with authentic Mexican cooking in your life, this book is for you. If you didn’t but you want to start, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. Tomorrow I’m making the Orange Atole because I’ve never heard of that and I’m eager to try!

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

Authentic Mexican recipes with easy to follow directions!!

The recipe collection is thoughtfully arranged by meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.), and the overall recipe layout ensures simplicity with numbered steps.

A delightful addition is the accompanying picture for each dish, allowing you to visualize what you’re about to create. Furthermore, the brief description below each recipe name adds a charming touch to the culinary experience.

I've made several recipes so far and they have been loved by all!!

This cookbook is beautiful. I really loved the section on the Mexican Pantry that detailed all the items you may need to complete the recipes within along with a detailed description on those items in the event you're not familiar. I always find this helpful when I'm wanting to cook an ethnic dish.

The recipes themselves are organized by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc) and the overall layout of the recipes makes them very easy to follow with the steps numbered. Another great feature is the picture that goes along with each dish so you can see what you're planning on making. I also loved the little blurb about each dish below the recipe name.

The notes (or Notas) are amazingly helpful. They either give helpful tips or substitutions in case an ingredient cannot be found which saves on possibly passing up on a dish simply due to lack of ingredients.

Having frequented Mexico over the years, this cookbook really brought me back and allowed me to feel like I was back there and not buried in snow and cold!

I believe this is the second book in this Mexican cookbook series, I checked out the previous book too.

This book came through on the NetGalley shelf app rather than kindle and I find that format to be less appealing. But if you zoom in you can make each page the right size.

This cookbook passed my big cookbook test: lots of pictures! Almost every single recipe has a beautiful picture with it.

Also, the recipes sound delicious and seem reasonably easy to make,

I will say that I think some of the ingredients would be impossible for me to find locally, I live in the middle of nowhere and Kroger’s is the best grocery store around here and it’s a good 45 minutes away. I am generally able to find ingredients I need for recipes between stores like the local grocery stores, Target and Amazon. I buy a lot of hard yo find ingredients online. But when it’s a fresh ingredient needed for a recipe and I can’t find it at the store I’m just out of luck. It’s not the end of the world but it rules out a few recipes.

The recipes that I saved from this cookbook and plan to try are:
QUESADILLA DE JAMÓN
SALCHICHAS A LA MEXICANA
TORTA DE JAMÓN
QUESO FUNDIDO

I got to read an early copy of this cookbook on NetGalley, thank you!

If you think Mexican food just encompasses tacos, burritos and nachos then you really need this recipe book. If you want to elevate your Mexican dinners than you need to get this book. This book includes discussion about tools, foods, spices as well as just fantastic photos of the food, explanations and detailed recipes. It does not stop there, vegetarian tamales as well as desserts, cocktails and juices. This is like staying home but taking a vacation to Mexico bringing home recipes full of freshness, flavor and expanding the pallet of foods of Mexico. This is just packed full of delicious sounding recipes and the photos confirms, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert don't forget something to wash it all down with run don't walk to get this vacation flavors in a book it will have you booking a trip to compare cooking with the flavors of Mexico, I am telling you if you follow the recipes you won't be able to tell the difference.

Lovely collection of Mexican recipes. reading brought back happy memories of shopping in various Mexican markets - buying huge bags of chili’s for cents.

Looking forward to some warmer weather to try out some of the aqua frescas.

Due to, I assume, the format of the physical book, it didn’t render very well in the NetGalley app.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC

What a beautiful book! Just looking at the beautiful photos and reading it makes you feel the smell, the tase, the savory yumminess of it all!
Also, a bonus – most of the recipes look like they can easily be modified and adapted to be gluten-free!

Author Mely Martínez knows her stuff. I’m a huge fan of Mexican food, and the recipes in this book have my mouth watering (I’m super hungry now). From soups to appetizers to main dishes to dessert, you’re sure to find multiple recipes you like. This is the author’s second cookbook, so I do encourage you to look at her first and/or check out her blog, Mexico In My Kitchen—there are so many recipes to choose from!

I’m actually out of town, so I can’t try any of these recipes yet, but I am really looking forward to making some of the breakfasts, soups and salsas, especially. I’m a simple woman—give me soup and salsa, and I’m a happy camper. In fact, if I had to choose one cuisine for the rest of my life, it would almost assuredly be Mexican. There’s so much variety! Mely Martínez showcases her country’s culinary heritage wonderfully, and the pictures are gorgeous.

Buen provecho!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point (thank you so much!). My honest review is entirely voluntary.

Beautifully photographed, authentic Mexican dishes with recipes that look easy to follow and clear. I especially liked the background information provided about meals and food in Mexico.

This is a great modern but authentic Mexican cookbook. There are photos for every recipe, though they were so oversaturated in colors in my ARC that it was almost impossible to appreciate them. I assume they won’t look like that in the final product.

Like most modern cookbooks, this is very heavy on meat even though historically most cultures including Mexico used much less meat and far more vegetables and beans (there’s still plenty of vegetables and beans in these recipes). There is one vegan tamale recipe and there are a few vegetarian recipes but it’s not well suited for vegetarians or vegans. There is a lot of frying. No nutritional information is provided. The recipes seemed accessible and authentic for modern Mexican cooking.

I read a temporary digital loan of this book via NetGalley.

This is a beautiful book that is an absolute treat to explore - I felt like I was on a journey through Mexico, experiencing the very highest echelons of culinary yumminess as I progressed!

The introduction to how and when people in Mexico eat was interesting and enlightening, while the recipes themselves benefited from being photographed to enhance the readers experience. No calorie counts were given - this I found strangely and deliciously liberating!

Measurements were given in both cups and grams, and oz and ml - I find this so helpful and definitely widens the appeal to both sides of the pond.

The book is organised in sections - generally by mealtime, though not exclusively so.

Overall I would absolutely recommend this book - it is pure joy!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

This is my favorite type of cookbook. The rich descriptions of food with historical background combined with the beautiful photos makes for a wonderful read, even while you are not actively cooking. The detailed recipes with fresh ingredients tops it off.
