The mix of poetic rhyme and scenes that Pam Ayres creates is, in my view, sublime. It's great that she now writes poems for children too. They learn a lot from rhymes at any age. Poems, when told and written well, stick in their brains. Poems can also be fun. Pam Ayres encompasses all of this in this book.

I am Hattie the Hare will inspire many young minds to look around them this springtime and have fun in playful rhyme where they'll learn something new and have fun at the same time.

Can't ask for anything more in a poetry book for children.

A very beautifully illustrated book, all about hares!

Explores the life of the hare, including some of the threats they now face due to intense farming and habitat loss.

Another gorgeous children's book from Pam Ayres!

Thank you to NetGalley & Macmillan Children's Books for the DRC

I have been a fan of Pam Ayres for a long time now so was delighted to be awarded the chance to read this book. (thank you to NetGalley and the publishers of this book for that chance.)

The prose was wonderful (as expected) and flowed just as wonderfully. It told a tale from Hattie the Hare's point of view and had a good tale to tell (and even deeper moral.) ie look after the countryside and the animals will thrive. The illustrations were also beautiful and very cute!

I'm sure that youngsters will love this wholesome tale (and okay, fans of Pam Ayres - like me - will also adore it!)

What an absolutely wonderful book to share with young children. I've always loved Pam Ayres and her way with words and this book is no exception - the rhymes are so easy to read, so engaging to read aloud and so natural in their flow. What is especially lovely, though, is that the book is absolutely jam packed with facts about hares but never feels dry or that it's trying too hard to be solely educational. Personally, I learned all sorts of things I didn't know! It's also very nice to see a story about animals native to our own country, something that a child could possibly see in nature - it gives details of the threats to the species but also a positive message on what can be done to help them survive and what we can all do to protect our countryside, a wonderful way to help children feel connected to the nature around them and want to look after it. The illustrations are also beautiful and really bring the text to life. I very much hope this is part of a long line of books in a series.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

Thank you so much to Macmillan Children's Books / Two Hoots and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

This was beautiful, I loved the way it was written it was so poetic and rhymed so perfectly. I loved that we were learning about the hare as you read and seeing what a beautiful animal they are.

Hattie was wonderful and I loved how we were told her story through her, you get completely transported to where she is and to the beautiful field she lived in with her family and all the other animals that live there. It shares with you the differences between a rabbit and hare which is great as so many mix them up.

The illustrations were breathtaking, honestly I just adored so much looking at them all, they were wonderful and so crisp and clear seeing all the animals, all the trees, bushes, food. You could spend ages looking through them all, literally they are gorgeous.

I really loved this book it was so beautiful, so well made, it was lovely, from the story to the illustrations, to the facts all about hares. It’s a great book for young readers or for family to read to their young ones.
