A story about a woman who ends up being Hitlers fortune teller. Trying to save her family while helping the Allies with her predictions and influence over Hitlers decisions is a dangerous and difficult task. Along the way we discover more secrets about her motivations and also how far her and her partner need to go to stay safe. A good pace with lots of twists and turns touching on most groups affected by Hitler and his henchmen

Edith Creutzen the Clairvoyant is chosen by Hitler to join him in Berlin to aid his war effort. Unbeknown to Hitler, Edith is with the French Resistance and is now working for the British Intelligence to manipulate his military decisions and undermine Germanys efforts.
Unknown to anyone, Edith has a personal vendetta against Hitler who murdered his previous Clairvoyant.
The thick fog of fear and paranoia fills the pages as Edith descends ever deeper into the belly of Nazi Berlin and Hitlers maniac reality.
The tension mounts as Edith walks the tightrope of telling Hitler what he wants to hear, while manipulating him as per Allied coded instructions she collects in secret meet ups in bookshops. All the while under the watchful & lustful eyes of Stefan her SS chaperone.
Stretching from Churchills offices, to French Resistance assassination plots,
with so many layers, this book is an enjoyable read!

Wow! This thriller is gripping and I was interested to the last in the idea of Hitler using a Clairvoyant! Huge thanks for the advanced copy!

I loved the writing, the subterfuge, the espionage! The only problem was the fortunetelling. I can't believe that in any way, shape, or form. But take that away and it was a smashing story. I'm so conflicted! Had it been just a great spy story it would get five stars! Sadly with the view that clairvoyants are possibly real, it is only a four.

Due to an early proof I was able to enjoy this very gripping historical thriller, one of my favorite genres, with a supposedly true background. Hitler was rumored to have used fortune tellers  and the novel centers around Edith Creutzen, a German clairvoyant who is coerced by the Nazis to leave Paris to  become Hitler's fortune teller. Secretly she has joined the French resistance feeding them highly confidential information,  walking a tight rope that could snap any time. It's a real page turner, well plotted, atmospheric,  very likeable protagonists  but also dark at times, portraying the terrible 1940ties war years but also the bravery of  ordinary people risking their lives for Hitler's down fall.

This thriller is plot-driven and the sustained threat was gripping. I was interested to the last in the idea of Hitler using a Clairvoyant (working with the Resistance) to guide his decision making and in linking real events to fictional. There are a lot of SS officers with similar names who do despicable things to people and although I found the main characters and their friends and associates laudable they felt archetypes rather than complex human beings. Thank you for my advance copy.

I loved this story and it fitted perfectly as the next book I read following on from the new book by Syd Moore. It is set in Majorca in 1973 and Paris and Berlin during WW2. The main character Edith is very likable and credible. The story is one of those where you wonder how much truth there is to whether Hitler did use the occult and fortune tellers to decide what his next military move should be. It was gripping and kept me guessing right to the end.

A moving and tense story of one woman's attempts to end a war.

For the most part, this book takes place in Berlin, in 1940 and follows clairvoyant Edith Creutzen as Hitler invites her to be his personal fortune teller. Although terrified of what might happen, she agrees. Through a series of events, she joins forces with British Intelligence to foil Hitler by providing slightly misleading advice. However, she is soon immersed in a deadly game which places her and her family in peril.

This is a dark story, full of menace and tension. The author writes from the perspective that clairvoyance is real, and what Edith sees is truly what the future holds. By carefully misleading Hitler she is able to direct him into making decisions which will hinder his plans. The scenes where he and Edith meet are truly chilling, and his paranoia and fear jump off the page. So does Edith's growing fear of discovery as she pushes her luck more and more. Also fraught with tension are those episodes where Edith passes encoded messages to members of the Resistance, never knowing if the SS will finally track them down.

Although a story of fiction, this book is based on the fact that Hitler did employ fortune tellers, and believed they would help him defeat his enemies. The work of those who opposed Hitler are also represented, and the reader gets a sense of just how fragile was his hold on power withing his own ranks.

Author J.C. Maetis is better known as thriller writer John Matthews - Maetis is his father’s original Jewish family name, who left Lithuania for London in 1919. His links to the atrocities carried out during WW2 are clear in his writing, and this latest book will delight fans. Heartily recommended.

This was a very interesting premise, one I’ve not read before in this genre and I’ve read a lot of historical fiction! I really enjoyed the writing and the characters, however I felt there was too much going on. The jumps between different times, areas and key moments around the war made this book jarring to read and a little difficult to stay on top of. I still did enjoy the plot and the way it was written. A solid historical fiction!

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this story and I was hooked from start to finish. The character’s are extremely well written and feel ‘real’ - they are flawed, doubt themselves and appear more than just a character on a page. They are written with such depth, that you are transported into the story and at times, can feel like you are immersed alongside both protagonists and antagonists.
War is a sensitive and distressing topic yet Maetis approaches this with respect and care, whilst at the same time, teaching history, remembering weaving a rich and nail biting story. A must read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction

This book is set during then second World War, when recently widowed Edith is invited to be Hitler's fortune teller. She is frightened, so agrees. When she realises the strength that he has, she joins uo with British Intelligence to overturn him. It is a really gripping read and full of twists and turns. There is a love story and there are some real page turning parts throughout.
Thank you to Nety Gallry for an advanced review,
