I absolutely adored this book. I loved the main characters and how the story featured characters from the other two books in the series. I loved the relationship between the two main characters and enjoyed seeing how this developed throughout the book.

This was my first Abby Jimenez book & it’s been very hyped plus I always hear really good things about her books, so I went into it a bit apprehensive, but after a bit of a slow start I really liked it!

The premise was interesting, a fun take on common fear I’m sure a lot of people have! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Justin & Emma a lot. It was a nice fast pace, well written & just a nice easy summer read!

I will be recommending it to my friends for holiday reads for sure!

OMG…… what can I say about this book. Abby Jimenez has become one of my favourite authors in the last few month. This book was the perfect ending to the Part of Your World Trilogy.
Justin is just the cutest book boyfriend, attentive, sweet, funny and all whilst trying to care for his younger siblings.
I loved that this book was a Romance whilst touching on some very tough topics such as abandonment, difficult parent / child relationships and mental illness.
Emma showed some real strength of character through some tough times and I loved hers and Maddy’s friendship.
I cannot wait for the next Abby Jimenez to be released, but in the meantime, I have a couple of her backlist books I can pick up 💕

Abbys books are always great. There's always so much going on. Same with this one. I liked all the characters and the side plots. There is a good
The third act conflict to keep it spicy. Justin was so sweet he is such a book boyfriend.

3.75 stars!
I liked all the characters and the side plots but emma did grate on me, she has no self-awareness.
The third act conflict was super frustrating and I didn't feel like it was necessary.
Justin was so sweet I don't know how he managed everything on his plate but he is such a book boyfriend.

I absolutely loved this, it might be controversial but I genuinely think it might be the strongest out of the trilogy!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for accepting my request to read and review this book!

I'm going to do this review in two parts: Cons and Pros!

Cons

There were some really slow parts of this book, where for the first 200 pages there wasn’t any romance yet - and it just meandered a few times

Both families backstories are so FICTION it was hard to really see it as realistic. The prison mum and crazy mum were both very out of left field. I think the book could have genuinely been more effective if at least one of them had a slightly more normal life if that makes sense.

I felt like the “why” they couldn’t date was a bit over done by the end. I think in the real world when you love someone and they love you, you stay. I do think the 6 months is what they both needed - her to sort her life and him to deal with becoming a solo parent without her there.

I think I developed grey hairs from how stressed I was reading this.

Pros

Found family always gets to me and this had TWO - I loved the plot twist with the DNA test (although I will say …. Super unrealistic it would happen that quick and they would meet up same day)

Maddy. What a fucking G. A legend. An icon.

I did end up appreciating how it wasn’t super smutty - just focusing on emotions and then falling for each other not because of sexual tension.

I’m very happy that the ending ended up happy as I was worried it might not actually be (I’ve never read this author before and didn’t get normal rom com vibes)

I cried fully once - teared up a few other times. So I guess this is a con? Her writing was obviously good to make me emotionally invested and cry.

Justin was really freaking sweet and kind and thoughtful and I wish men in the real world were AS ATTENTIVE AS HIM.

ANYWAY

I can’t really say I ENJOYED reading this - I was kinda stressed the whole way mostly due to her mum.

BUT

I did appreciate the whole thing and the growth of our characters and how things ended up and it’s a book I will recommend people to read for sure.

It’s probably not one I would reread when I’m in the mood for a romance, and romance is mostly what I reread.

I think objectively speaking the book deserves a 4.5 (the 0.5 taken off for how unrealistic some things are). That’s my writing for how WELL WRITTEN it was.

In terms of how much I ENJOYED the book and how likely I am to want to read it again I would say maybe a 3.75 - but that’s purely because I get too much anxiety with stress and this book stressed me out. If I was a little more emotionally detached I would probably be able to rate it the full 4.5 lol.

So maybe my rating is kinda like a 4.2 out of 5 combine both the above.

This book is book 3 in the series and just as good as the others. I absolutely adored the characters and the concept of the dating and although it took quite a way through the book for the love story to really start when we got there it was just beautiful! An auto buy author for sure!

I really enjoyed this! A quick and enjoyable summer read, with likeable and interesting characters - though enjoyable belies the fact that abusive and neglectful parenting plays a major role in the novel.

Em is a travel nurse and connects with Justin through a ‘curse/gift’ they seem to share - this part of the plot felt flimsy and was my least favourite part of the novel, but it’s really just the catalyst for them meeting and then dating. There’s enough humour to make this a romcom but the lasting effects of a traumatic childhood make this more interesting than many romcoms.

Some characters/plot points could have been better developed, but a really enjoyable 3.5* read.

Abby Jimenez's "Just for the Summer" is a delightful blend of humor and heartfelt moments.
Justin and Emma, both plagued by a unique dating curse, concoct a wild plan to cancel each other's bad luck by dating and then breaking up. Set against the charming backdrop of Lake Minnetonka, their supposed summer fling takes unexpected turns as real feelings emerge.
With a mix of humor, romance, and emotional depth, Jimenez crafts a story that is both entertaining and poignant, proving once again her talent for creating relatable and lovable characters.
A must-read for romance fans.

This was a gorgeous and delightful summer read. I really enjoy Abby's writing style and the characters were just stunning, loved every second!

I've never read a book by Abby Jimenez before so I went into this fairly blind. It did not disappoint, in fact it raised the bar and surpassed my expectations.

The story flows well and the character development builds between the main characters, whilst it gives depth the background characters (that I've since learned feature in her previous books).

Though this book does meet previous characters, this can still be read as a standalone. If you're like me, once finishing this, you'll immediately read the previous books to meet the characters again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it's in my top 3 of the year! It's going to take a hell of a book to beat this one in my eyes.

Firstly, I want to thank Abby Jimenez for ruining any other book that comes after this as nothing will compare to how much I loved and devoured this book!

Emma is our MFC and a travelling nurse, always in a relationship that ends with the other meeting 'the one' afterwards - she is taken in by a reddit post that claims the same thing - that's where Justin comes in : same issue, any girl he dates always finds their soulmate after him, so Emma reaches out to him.

I cant explain fully just how much this book pulled at all my emotions, Just for the summer wasn't just a fluffy summer read it had depth of character, Chemistry and banter, family dynamics and real hard hitting issues with the characters both having family situations and how they work separately and their journey together through this was a joy to read.

I would read the trigger warnings if you want to read this book first, as someone who hasn't had to deal with the topics like this, a person that has may find this a difficult personal read.

An absolute smash and my 2nd fav off Abby's book (Yours truly holds that first place title!) - 4.75% rounded up to 5 star on goodreads!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review - review on Goodreads.

This was a really good romance that was about self-discovery, dealing with abandonment issues and discovering a found family in those who surround you.

I enjoyed the premise of this book and how the characters developed together whilst also having their own lives apart from each other. Often some character POV’s are overtaken with being ‘obsessed’ with the other person but I honestly felt like both characters could be separate from each other in their own chapters where they weren’t whole heartedly consumed with the other person which is an attribute I like when reading romance.

I think that this was a good read and I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what comes next from Abby.

This book had me melting the whole time I was reading it - so very heartbreaking and heartwarming, a perfect juxtaposition. Emma is a travel nurse and never stays too long in the one place, but after the most hilarious meet cute she decided to stay put a little longer than usual in Minnesota to be with Justin. His life is not in a great place and Emma is constantly dealing with issues from her neglect as a child, which leaves them having to deal with the idea that they might have met the wrong person but at the wrong time.

I mean, the family drama alone in this story is so gripping but then it is at its core a romance - an achingly sweet love story. It’s a perfect romantic read: loveable and complex characters, drama, a little spice, hilarious and life affirming. Also, the epilogue was too perfect 💛

What to expect:

- meet cute - in response to an AITA Reddit post
- family drama x 1000
- he falls first
- found family
- little spicy

Justin and Emma are cursed in the dating world. Whoever dates them then goes on to find their soulmates. They agree to date each other with the hope that when they break up with each other they will go on to find their soulmates. Abby Jimenez tackles a big subject with unresolved trauma and how it can effect your life. My heart went out to Emma and how she dealt with her emotionally unavailable mum. Maddy was a fantastic friend for Emma. Then we have Justin who has suddenly become responsible for his younger siblings. Two characters you couldnt help cheering them on their journey to healing. Just for the summer, is an enjoyable read, highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance.

4.5 Stars

Thank you so much to Little Brown Book Group for reaching out and offering me a copy of this eARC. I absolutely adored Yours Truly and so I was ecstatic when I was offered this one!

What I love about Abby Jimenez’s romances is the fact that they feel so real and the characters circumstances are complicated and something they genuinely have to work through. There’s nothing I hate more than a forced third act breakup but these characters genuinely had obstacles in their way and trauma to work through. Justin was such a lovely character and I loved the kids and Maddy. Seeing Justin dealing with his new responsibilities was heartwarming but also heartbreaking to see. This book was all about the small gestures rather than the grand gestures and I loved it for that.

I also appreciated the cameos and the way the characters from previous books were related to the characters in this book. These are interconnected standalones (I still need to read Part of Your World!) so you can read each book separately but I’m glad I read at least one in the series before reading this because it was so fun to see Briana, Jacob. Jane and Benny again, even if it was brief.

The only reason this book is not a complete five star is because I never completely warmed up to Emma. I understand that she had a lot of trauma and why she reacted in certain ways but I didn’t like that she just kept stringing Justin along and then panicking at the last second. It always felt like he liked her more than she liked him. Also why were we still supposed to empathise with Amber at the end? I’m sorry but she was a cold hearted bitch who deserves no one’s sympathy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it definitely deserves the hype it’s getting! This is such a good twist on the “fake dating” trope as well and the addition of the “curse” makes things interesting. Also I cried many times so grab the tissues. This was released on 2nd April so it’s out now!

(All of my reviews contain a slide explaining the plot)

This is a great romance story. If you enjoy Abby Jimenez's writing then this is for you. I did come to this off the back of reading Yours Truly which (I must admit), I did enjoy more because of its laugh out loud humour, but this is still a fantastic summer read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book.

This book was perfect.

I absolutely adore Abby Jimenez's writing. Her romance novels manage to be sweeping, steamy, romantic tales, but also stand as remarkable stories about realistic issues and trauma. Her representation of certain conditions and chronic illness is really refreshing, and it makes me love her characters even more. They are already incredibly well realised, but I feel like I know them when I come to the end of her books.

Justin has that Good Luck Chuck curse, where every girl that dates him finds her soulmate AFTER him. Thanks to a REDDIT thread, the internet is now aware of it. It draws the attention of Emma, a travel nurse who spends six weeks at a time in a different location with her best friend and fellow nurse, Maddie. When Emma and Justin start exchanging DMs, she convinces Maddie that their next placement should be in Minnesota, so she can meet him. It's meant to be a fling, and "just for the summer", but what happens when a connection is undeniable?

Justin is a reliable planner and golden retriever. He is dependable, and due to shocking circumstances that reveal themselves a few chapters into this novel, he is very much needed by his three younger siblings. Emma is someone is comfortable with a four-date maximum, running from commitment when she gets any hint of a felling, mostly owing to her troubled upbringing at the hands of a toxic mother. They seem to be the perfect pair, but can they make it work? Or, better yet: Will they allow themselves to make it work?

This is such an incredible book; I just can't say enough good things about it. I loved Emma and Justin, and every single one of the secondary characters for what they added to this brilliant, heartfelt tale. I couldn't put the book down and when I did, I was itching to get back to it. Abby Jimenez has written a beautiful book, full of heat and heart, and one that I will no doubt read again and again. Five big, fat stars.
