While not quite the gayest thing I’ve ever read, like the first was, this was still an excellent book. Filled with humour, relatable characters and just so many jokes about being gay, I enjoyed reading it so much.

These books are so dark. While they’re written in a light-hearted and fun style, they encompass some really dark themes. This book ups the stakes even more and tears the friendship group we loved so much in the first book apart. It toyed with my emotions while at the same time, making me crack up with laughter.

The ending was a lot. It made me really really excited for the next book, with so many questions about what’s going to happen next.

I just can’t wait to read on!

OVERTHINKING is a funny, action-packed, emotional contemporary fantasy that brings more teenage messiness and power chaos.

This is a book that gets the messiness of going to university so right. You're an adult, freedom! Chores! Way too much alcohol. Being apart from the friends you've known for years and trying to juggle those old friends with the new ones you're making, and wondering if maybe it was just being forced together at the old school that kept you together.

I loved seeing that on the page through the experience of these absolute drama queens (and then sensible Troy absolutely having enough of Steven and Freya's nonsense.) It's relatable even if it feels funnily over the top at times (I'm very much an old soul.) It has all the heart of OVEREMOTIONAL as it continues to use the emotional powers to explore relationship quandaries and all messiness of being a teen.

If that wasn't bad enough for the characters, they have to deal with DEMA again, and someone is sabotaging them. There's more action as well as the mystery of what is happening (sleuth Freya to the rescue!) It's a nice blend of relationship (romantic and platonic) drama alongside spies and superpowers.

Marcus isn't in this book as he and Freya are in different cities so have broken up. And she's not happy about it and trying to forget it. I am hoping we get more Marcus in the last book because the latter part of this book was really interesting as Freya started facing up to the fact she missed him. Maybe they can manage a long distance relationship?

Speaking of the finale, SO OVER THIS, I am very excited for it as this book ends on an absolute cliff-hanger of "everything has gone terribly badly."
